Has enabled uninterrupted access to educational platforms and simplified storage management
Dell EqualLogic PS series is easily scalable, and we can add extra boxes and storage. It was easy to deploy during COVID. Deploying Dell EqualLogic PS series is straightforward, with no complexity involved. Dell EqualLogic PS series is a good product. We did not experience any failures in the last six to seven years, and it is still running as our storage for offline data. There are snapshot capabilities in data protection available, but we did not use that feature because it consumes much space. We have only 150 terabytes of space and simply use it to create volumes without utilizing it for snapshots. We use thin provisioning in Dell EqualLogic PS series, but I did not explore that feature further.

Offers high performance and dependable support for fast storage needs
The most valuable feature of IBM FlashSystem is its robust back code. When integrated properly into the environment and configured according to the guidelines, it provides a very solid infrastructure that does the job on demand. Additionally, IBM FlashSystem offers competitive pricing and reliable performance. The hardware is dependable, ensuring that it functions effectively when the setup is done correctly.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Before deploying it, we used public clouds for our services, facing latency and other issues with other vendors; after deploying this cluster, we were very satisfied and relieved."
"It has contributed to the implementation of virtualization and all its benefits."
"It has contributed to the implementation of virtualization and all its benefits."
"The solution offers very good read capacities, the size of the box we have is pretty decent, the speed on offer is very good, we have found the initial setup to be fairly straightforward, and Dell's technical support is very good."
"The technical support is very good."
"Dell's technical support is very good."
"It has been extremely reliable and very easy to upgrade and expand."
"The technical support for EqualLogic has been universally outstanding."
"IBM FlashSystem is the best solution for storage virtualization."
"Stability-wise, this solution is fine."
"I would advise colleagues to use FlashSystems."
"The most valuable feature is reliability."
"The ease of use of the system: If you have a small storage team, then this is the platform for you, because it is really easy to manage, really easy to use, and it does not take a lot of training."
"They have a virtualization feature and, even if you do not want to buy that feature, you can have it as a trial for two to three months. If you have another brand of storage from another company, you can use this tool to transfer all your data from the old system to the new Storwize system, which really shortens the migration time."
"The solution is very flexible."
"Initial SAN configuration was smooth."

Cons

"It's kind of expensive when you buy the EqualLogic solution because, as you grow, you have to keep buying another controller. It can be more expensive with time."
"The performance isn't as good as, for example, Nimble."
"Synchronous replication uses space inefficiently."
"The searchable online documentation is missing."
"Individual file recovery would be a nice additional feature."
"EqualLogic is really not going to be relevant in the marketplace too much longer."
"One problem with this solution is that synchronous replication requires lots of duplicated space."
"Why is it not possible for both controllers to be simultaneously active (load balancing)?"
"Flash Manager needs to be included."
"Sometimes the performance is effective but it gets resolved in the process."
"I don’t really have a feature that I’d be using."
"The local support for IBM FlashSystem is very weak. Most of the customers are suffering from the IBM support here inside Egypt."
"The customer's expectations are what they get on the cloud, they're expecting even in the on-premises deployments, going forward."
"With regards to the IBM V7000 storage system, where we have multiple tiers of storage, a heat map would show I/O distribution across the tiers of storage."
"I think the only thing the developers can look at, is that it is limited to 25 gigabytes currently. In the next release they might want to increase that."
"The GUI needs some improvement. An additional function that could be helpful is reducing the time it takes to delete volumes, especially if they are compressed or deduplicated."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing is pretty straightforward."
"It seemed expensive at first, but the durability lowered the cost of ownership dramatically over time."
"Initial packages include all upgrades and services."
"I didn't buy it. It was another person seven years ago. So, I don't really know, but all storage platforms cost a lot of money. It is probably in the mid-range, but you get what you pay for."
"There are annual maintenance costs beyond the original licensing period."
"I don't think I would say that the product is less expensive...The product's price is not an issue for our company, considering the relationship we have with Dell and the customer support we receive."
"All features are out of the box. The license will be in the virtual, OS, or application layer."
"Dell EqualLogic PS series can improve its scale-out feature. Sometimes the customer has a limited budget for storage expansion. When they want to expand their capacity, they need to buy a complete controller plus storage capacity, which sometimes is out of their budget. If Dell EqualLogic PS series support could scale up the environment in which only hard drive extension controllers should be supported, then customers can expand within a lower budget."
"The price of IBM FlashSystem is a little high because you pay a premium because the solution is from IBM. We had paid for the SLA prior to using the solution."
"They've been much more aggressive in the last five, six years than they were before that."
"Regarding licensing make sure you add at least three years software maintenance from IBM at the beginning, because you will not be able to download firmware updates or any fixes/patches without this."
"Our customers would like IMB FlashSystem to be less expensive."
"This is an expensive product and if the price were reduced it would be better."
"We have no issues with the price as it is very competitive."
"My customers got the IBM FlashSystem bundle offer. It was a one-time purchase for three years of service. The price would depend on the storage size and could reach between $25,000 to $55,000."
"It pays to go back and get the best price you can from your supplier. The first offer is not always at the best discount."
