A stable, scalable, and reliable solution for moving and processing data
We're only considering enhancing the presentation layer to give a more multidimensional OLAP view that AWS seems to have decided on. Redshift with the data mart structure is like an OLAP cube. Oracle Analytics Cloud is an over-code killer and is not what we need. I was looking at Mondrian, which used to be part of the open-source stack from another vendor that works. Still, I am also looking at some of the other OLAP environments like Kaiser and perhaps decided to go to Azure with Microsoft Azure analysis cloud, but that's not multidimensional either as SSAS used to be. We tried the Mondrian, and that didn't perform how we expected. So, we are looking at resetting something to perform as an OLAP in the cloud, particularly AWS, so that we might consider an Azure solution.

Real-time data replication and integration streamline processes and enhance productivity
The most valuable feature of Fivetran so far is the data replication. The real-time data replication is what I see best in the market where it reduces the overhead of customers needing to maintain the pipeline. Even when an error occurs, it automatically tries to solve the issue without manual interaction needed. The effectiveness of Fivetran's pre-built connectors in enhancing my customer's productivity is significant because everything is easily configurable. The documentation is very clear, so there's no difficulty in finding the necessary steps. Everything is pre-documented. The pre-built connectors that are available are excellent. Most functionalities are covered, and in most cases, it works according to expectations.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a stable solution...It is a scalable solution."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is that orchestration and development capabilities are easier with the tool."
"The user interface is mostly UI-based, eliminating the need for a lot of coding."
"There's the general feature of the platform where it just makes it very easy to integrate different things, but I would say a specific difference is their integration of DBT,."
"The simplicity and scalability are the strongest features of Fivetran."
"SysTrack load is the best feature."
"The product has some seamless connectors, which are readily available."
"The compare feature is the most valuable piece of it."
"The general data ingestion is valuable. It's used for a lot of data. It provides about 90% of the data we use in our data warehouse without needing data engineering."
"Its arrays are powerful enough to handle migrations even when the replication is happening in the background, without causing any trouble with the ongoing traffic."

Cons

"The user-defined functions have shortcomings in AWS Data Pipeline."
"It's almost semi-automatic because you must review and approve code push, which works well. Still, we had many problems getting there during the deployment process, but we got there."
"More connectors are needed for exotic, popular, and rising star portals."
"Fivetran is very expensive for data sources with a lot of rows, such as email data. I would like to see cheaper pricing for data sources like that."
"The customization could improve because Fivetran gives more thought to people who don't want to manage analytics workflows rather than engineers who want to be able to customize pipelines more thoroughly."
"HVR Software's technical support could be improved. Whenever we log a case, the response that we get from the support is a bit delayed."
"This solution needs to improve its real-time data and transformation availability."
"I would like for them to incorporate additional transformations. A valuable aspect of the product is that it does inflight transformations and that could be expanded."
"We use a separate tool for "reverse ETL", which is the opposite of what Fivetran does; it pushes data from your data warehouse back out to business applications. If Fivetran pulls data from those same applications, they should also enable users to push it back. I would love to do both ETL and reverse ETL in the same tool."
"The environment must be more development-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The way we use it, I think it is fair as we're getting a good value for money compared to having a server or some other data pipeline."
"I rate the pricing between six to eight on a scale from one to ten, where one is low price, and ten is high price."
"Fivetran is very expensive, and its database-driven pricing model is outdated."
"The product is reasonably expensive"
"When you have a lot of workflows and complex use cases, pricing goes down as you use it more."
"The solution is affordable."
"The licensing costs are extremely high for the usage of somebody who has one GB or two GB of usage per day for real-time traffic. There are many other players in the market which are similarly priced or competitively priced. On average per month, it used to come around 12,000-15,000 USD, which is very high."
"I can't give exact amounts because that's based on usage, but it's more expensive than some of its competitors."
"I don't have the exact information, but I know it is high, and it is on a yearly basis. There is no additional cost for what we're doing. We're always open to doing things cheaper, so we might potentially implement a different solution."
"The pricing model is okay and mid to large companies will not have an issue with it."
