Enhanced data quality with machine learning support in diverse environments
We used Ataccama ONE to read data from the mainframe for a data quality perspective. There's a significant lack in that area with tools being able to interface with mainframe. MetLife has a diverse environment, including DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, legacy, and vSAN files. Being able to work in these various environments and put them to a single data quality tool was very appealing. Additionally, Ataccama supported AI and machine learning, which was one of the features I liked. Furthermore, we were able to interface bidirectionally with Collibra for data governance, catching data quality issues before propagating through the system.

Match and merge functionality is still the best but cloud version needs more functionality
There are various areas for improvement in IDMC. Enhancements on basic data management functionality and the UI front, such as multiple templates and improved grid views, would be beneficial. Bulk data management features could be improved from the UI perspective to get to the level of the on prem versions of Informatica MDM. The tool needs to mature but missing small but important features, like restricted dynamic attributes functionality, data inheritance rules in master hierachies, identifiers not being passed in jobs is a drawback.

Detailed technical support and data integration capabilities create seamless user experience
Regarding SAP Master Data Governance, there is significant room for improvement particularly concerning the replication types. For example, when a vendor master is created in Ariba and a request is submitted from the Ariba system, SAP Ariba directs it to MDG. MDG verifies the details entirely through PI/PO or CPI. Once MDG verifies the data, the request is submitted to the S/4HANA system, the target. After a final approval at all levels, the vendor number is generated, and the vendor code gets passed from source to target system. This number is available in both the Ariba integration in the systems and in SAP BPT code, as well as the S/4HANA system.

Pros

"The product’s important feature is data profiling and quality check."
"The notable aspect lies in the workflow structure, where building the workflow aligns significantly with data governance."
"The drag-and-drop feature is incredibly flexible and straightforward."
"The ease of use of the user console is valuable."
"The desktop version of the solution was particularly valuable to me, primarily for creating components. We opted for the data quality aspect to assess the quality of our data warehouse. The functionalities available allowed us to not only check data quality but also serve as an ETL tool. This versatility enabled data transformation and storage in various formats, including files on platforms like SharePoint or local online directories. The flexibility of the tool catered to the specific needs of those building components, contributing to our desired outcomes."
"Customer service was excellent, and I would give it a ten out of ten."
"The Provisioning tool is something that is really handy for everyone. It is my pick as the best feature."
"I like that Informatica MDM has robust matching technology. Informatica MDM is also porting the external Java applications for validations. I can consider that a must-have. It is also exposed to Rest API calls, and we can engage in real-time integrations with any third-party systems."
"The application integration will give you more flexibility when dealing with APIs."
"Axon has something called Overlay, which can be used to extend the technical lineage."
"Informatica MDM has a defined data model we can customize with user and developer options."
"It allows the creation of identical tasks that can be applied across multiple tables, ranging from 100 to even 1,000 tables."
"A great product enrichment tool."
"This is where I think MDM shines - with its strong fuzzy matching algorithm. This is the essence of Informatica MDM. Based on these results, I can write our match conditions and then perform the corresponding data management activities."
"The solution is great at standardizing all of our records."
"SAP is a closed tool. Integrating with it requires a lot of effort and money. It is also very expensive and not flexible."
"Some of the features that I have found to be beneficial are the search and uploads functions."
"I am satisfied with the solution's customer service."
"Validates all aspects from security to authorization and authentication."
"The product is easy to use and is beneficial from a data governance perspective."
"The most valuable thing is what it does: data management."
"SAP MDG has built-in integration capabilities with multiple systems/streams. We can also create custom interfaces if needed."

Cons

"Data movement is a pain."
"It is complicated to fetch 20-25 reports when we profile the data."
"I believe it would be beneficial if it could enhance its flexibility to connect with a wider range of downstream systems beyond just Excel and Postgres."
"Speaking specifically about the version we use, version 12.3, I'm unsure if this has been addressed in subsequent versions. One improvement I'd like to see pertains to the language used in certain components, especially in data quality checks. The language complexity posed a challenge for beginners. Although we had on-site assistance from Ataccama, making it manageable for us, some individuals found it difficult to comprehend, necessitating additional support. The provision of a comprehensive guide for on-premise installation can also be enhanced. The lack of detailed information on the solution's workings and the overwhelming nature of notifications, with extensive content, were areas of concern. Streamlining the notification content in newer versions would significantly expedite issue resolution."
"The interfacing to tools such as Collibra was somewhat cumbersome and required more thought."
"There is a notable challenge in having to provide detailed filters before the site recognizes the search criteria."
"This is a costly solution. We have several customers who evaluate it but then look for other solutions because of the cost. At present, Informatica MDM comes as an on-premises or cloud-based solution. I would like to see them offer a SaaS-based MDM model. I think they are working on it."
"The customer servive and support could be faster. There is a slow turnaround."
"The cost of Informatica MDM is expensive and has room for improvement."
"Although we are very satisfied with the design of the UI, executing tasks with it can be difficult."
"I would like to see more functionality added so that it is a bit closer to how much you can do with Informatica PowerCenter."
"While my company operates on the cloud, we have seen that Informatica Cloud Data Integration has some performance issues causing it to lag."
"The product could be improved in the area of architecture and technology. All the parts are old."
"They could provide more robust performance for data integration processes. It would help in improving the data quality more efficiently."
"The user experience can be improved."
"Overall, they just a little bit more flexibility in terms of assigning roles or adding new roles. We have a longer approval process, so we need to break it down into more roles than what is typically available and we need to hard-code it."
"The product is not user-friendly."
"There is no clarity and direction on how to manage bills of materials (BOMs) or routing in MDG."
"The platform's pricing needs improvement."
"The documentation provided for the MDG extensions by Utopia could be improved."
"The solution lacks some flexibility."
"The UI could improve by being more neat and clean. Sometimes users find it difficult to use it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Despite not being extremely low-cost, the pricing appears reasonable, making it a profitable and viable choice for companies that prioritize data security and adhere to specific policies."
"Our licensing model wasn't user-specific; instead, we paid fees for the engine and maintenance. As we didn't have a support contract, maintenance fees were likely nonexistent. Regarding the upgrade, we had an account for the initial two or three years, and considering the features provided by the solution, the pricing was reasonable."
"The product is reasonably priced."
"The product has a high price point."
"So, there are plans for licensing. There are subscription-based and usage-based licenses. Also, there are licenses for exceptional analytics, etc. In short, there are different models of licensing for every enterprise."
"Informatica Axon is a costly solution. I rate Informatica Axon a four out of ten for its pricing."
"It is expensive. That's probably the biggest drawback. The business has heartache paying the license, but that's mainly because they don't realize what value it brings. The key thing about the MDM solution is that it is in the backend, and no one sees what it is actually doing. You don't know it is a problem until it is not there."
"Pricing is determined by the number of licensed users as well as the number of Core CPUs."
"it's expensive, but if you're looking for a stable solution, Informatica MDM is a good one to choose."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing nine and a half out of ten."
"You can purchase licenses for this solution at different intervals. For example, annually or every three years. They recently changed their terms for licensing and now it is more flexible."
"SAP Master Data Governance is a licensed product. While there might be no upfront cost for the MDG component itself, you still need to pay for user authorizations."
"The cost of the product is not ideal."
"SAP Master Data Governance is an expensive product."
"The cloud solution is subscription-based, it is paid monthly or quarterly. If the solution is on-premises, it is a one-time fee. As far as I am aware there are no additional costs."
"I rate the tool's pricing a seven out of ten."
"SAP Master Data Governance is an expensive solution."
"The pricing is a bit too high."
"The solution is costly."
