Troubleshooting obstacles occur but technical support excels
My general opinion on Aruba Airwave is that it's acceptable, but it's not ideal because we are accustomed to Cisco. We didn't use Aruba much, but once you set it up, you probably don't need to worry about it too much. The version we are using is quite old now, probably around version four. I can't remember the version exactly because a lot of the products require Aruba Central, but we haven't used Aruba Central yet. I face challenges with Aruba Airwave, particularly with troubleshooting. When someone has a problem, we try troubleshooting, but the end-to-end users' messages show some details that are not always up-to-date, and sometimes the information from the GUI is not exactly aligned with what's on the website. If Aruba Airwave can apply AI capabilities, that would be even more perfect. I'd appreciate integration with Aruba Central; it would be great if they could incorporate it into Airwave.

Implementing advanced security features requires in-depth knowledge and setup
I am familiar with Juniper Mist Wired Assurance or Mist Premium Analytics, more on the security and firewall side. Currently, I need to renew my Juniper certification, so I am looking at Mist and some of the other cloud-based solutions. I am familiar with the Juniper vSRX or SRX, and I am mostly an SRX specialist. I have been using it for years and we still leverage them. The virtual SRX is primarily in the home lab, but I do actually have physical SRX. I have not tested any features such as automated network insights yet as we are still in our initial three months evaluation. Regarding configuration management, I had previously leveraged Security Director and other items that we could utilize, but it would require a relatively large environment of Juniper devices to really take advantage of it. I rate Juniper Sky Enterprise a six out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's scalable because it's licensed per device and we bought licenses with each device. I would rate it a nine out of ten for scalability."
"It has improved my organization by increasing troubleshooting opportunities which makes things more efficient."
"The most beneficial feature for network monitoring in Aruba Airwave is the Live Heat Map. It helps identify interferences, coverage issues, and user connectivity issues. The device management capability of Aruba Airwave is good. It provides end-to-end visibility from the user to the access point, the switch, and the internet breakout. From a monitoring, management, and orchestration standpoint, it is very effective and can manage any scale of deployment."
"It facilitated creating floor maps."
"It can interact with other vendors better than Cisco, which is a good point of AirWave, it is easy to use, and its reporting is good."
"One of the main advantages is its ability to draw building floor plans and analyze Wi-Fi signal behavior in real-time."
"The technical support services are good."
"ROI is good, and the technology has a good life span."
"What I find valuable with this product are the best features; if we were able to implement it to its full potential, anti-malware and the behavior-based features would add value to the environment."

Cons

"I would like to see an integration of services into one system, rather than having multiple systems to do multiple things."
"We sometimes have problems with troubleshooting between the GUI and the CLI manipulation."
"They should make it cheaper. By doing that, they can replace Cisco, which is also very expensive. If it is equivalent to Cisco in the features, with a reduced price, they can sell it more than Cisco."
"Cost is always a big issue for partners."
"When upgrading hardware, there were technical issues with network interfaces and Red Hat, which required escalation to developers."
"More devices or vendors should be onboarded to Aruba Airwave."
"I want a management solution to manage and monitor everything from a single dashboard. This is not there with Airwave."
"The integration with other platforms like Cisco needs to be improved."
"The primary issue is ease of use in deployment. It requires significant expertise."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate the product’s pricing a five out of ten."
"The licensing cost for Aruba Airwave increased from $72 to $210 within a few months. It would be better if the pricing for the solution were cheaper."
"We must buy a new license to connect more devices to scale up the solution."
"This product is not expensive."
"The tool is expensive. If one is bad or expensive, and ten is very good or cheap, I rate the product's price as a six."
"Aruba Airwave's licensing cost is not that expensive."
"AirWave is a very expensive solution. If you implement it in a wide range network, it will cost a lot. There is no option to sell it outside that price segment, which is a problem."
"It is an expensive solution."
