Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The standard backup and restore feature is most used.""There are many backup options available in this solution. For example, you are able to do backups of servers, email, OST files, and users. This is a complete backup solution which is very good.""The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is live replication.""The ROI is very good because of the speed of the backup.""We are satisfied with Arcserve UDP. The most important feature that we use and why we choose this product is the RHA feature.""Arcserve has a feature called virtual standby (VSB), which has been very helpful because I already have a hot standby copy of my critical infrastructure. If something breaks, I can spin up that virtual standby copy in less than five minutes and ensure that my data is available to everyone and that business continuity is maintained.""I would recommend it if there is a general case.""One of the things that I do like about it is that it has a very good deduplication feature."

"It's not easy to scale it.""When I have had to use tech support, they've been very good.""When we talk about a backup point of view, from a backup perspective, it's a good one.""I really like the reporting options you get for various email reports.""I like the fact that you can recover the VMs inside the appliance. For example, they're basically running this appliance on a Linux-based distribution, and they're spinning off KVM virtual machines inside."

Cons
"The solution can use a lot of bandwidth when the scheduling is not done, it should auto-schedule itself. For example, if there are 50 users connected in the network at 12 o'clock and the backup is not scheduled. At this time the network offices are going to have performance issues when it is doing a backup. Having a feature to auto-schedule a time when the network is not being used often would be beneficial.""Arcserve UDP is in the middle range of complexity. The interface can be developed a little bit more to be user-friendly.""The speed of restores should be improved. We have found the speed of large restores rather slow.""I had an issue with Arcserve UDP during the failover and the secondary machine didn't get back online, even though it ran automatically. I faced the issue during a crisis situation. However, I haven't faced such a problem again.""Its interface can be improved. I find it unintuitive.""We are looking at scaling up to the cloud and using immutable copies on the cloud. Arcserve UDP 8.0 does have the immutable feature supporting AWS, but I'm looking for multi-cloud support. So, I'm waiting for Arcserve to release that in the next release.""The initial setup was complex.""We could not go into granular details of retrieving backup information."

"There's a lot that can be made better. For example, it could be more scalable.""It seems like Unitrends moved away from enterprise customer engagement and moved more towards the managed service provider market.""I would like to see more storage options for the free version.""Comparing the features and the working pattern, definitely they have to come down on pricing if they want to compete in the market.""Probably the biggest issue I've had is actually paying for the unit, and part of that problem is that they use a third party for the billing."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "There is an annual license required for this solution and it is priced well."
  • "The retail fee is $1300 for a year for one server. Other than that, there is just the cost of your hardware."
  • "The solution is priced well compared to other solutions."
  • "The pricing is moderate."
  • "Its price seems reasonable. Its price is average as compared to the other products I've looked at. We have a three-year license right now. There are no other costs beyond the standard licensing fee."
  • "There are annual subscription fees and there are licensing costs for three computers. It is an expensive solution."

  • "With respect to cost, my advice is to get what you need."
