Excellent support, easy configuration, and a reliable tool to know what the problem is and where the problem is
They should try and make diagnostics run a bit quicker. When the problem occurs on a network, AppNeta runs automatic diagnostics on the end-to-end path. The path it was testing only to the destination, it now runs the same test to all of the devices and all the intermediate devices. Depending on the number of intermediate devices, it can take several minutes to run. If we're trying to find or diagnose a problem that only lasts two or three minutes, it may be that the diagnostics is still running by the time the problem is cleared. The only thing, which I have also mentioned to AppNeta in the past, is that there should be much faster and much more lightweight diagnostics, which can be completed within 30 seconds or one minute, rather than in 5 to 10 minutes. Currently, when we have short-duration problems, we use a different tool, but we only use that different tool for short-duration problems. With AppNeta, as long as the problem exists for more than a few minutes, such as within 10 to 15 minutes, we can normally tell where the problem is. However, most of the problems that we deal with are intermittent. They're very rarely a permanent condition that needs to be addressed. That makes it more difficult to troubleshoot. We would look to see at least two or three events and hope they show the same results to raise our confidence that we've actually found the problem, rather than just a problem.

Comprehensive monitoring streamlines operations with room for user support enhancement
I am interested in improving the flexibility of ScienceLogic's user interface, configuration, and customization. I am particularly keen on learning about issues raised by the ScienceLogic support team. Whenever we encounter difficulties, I raise vendor cases and am eager to deepen my understanding of those cases. Additionally, I want to learn more about ScienceLogic's dashboards, which display crucial metrics about collectors, their health, and devices aligned to them. The dashboard should be more detailed. Regarding improvements to ScienceLogic's technical support, my last company was IBM in India, and I worked on IBM MQ monitoring until my last day. I engaged with the LogicMonitor support team for MQ-level incidents, but these issues remained unresolved even after 10 to 15 days. On my last working day, I assisted with one such vendor case, and I am unsure if that issue was ever resolved. ScienceLogic's technical support should respond more efficiently in terms of time. During my time working on MQ-level cases, including a power pack upgrade that did not fix the issues faced, I provided all necessary steps with the help of the middleware team. However, there were still gaps that needed addressing.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The tool allows us to ensure the capacity, bandwidth, and packet loss of our VPN-based WAN within our thresholds end-to-end, and it is different from SNMP/NetFlow-based monitoring, which we also make use of."
"The product helps us understand networks and user experience. It helps us to understand the issues."
"We have peace of mind that our redundant circuits are fully operational and ready to take VoIP calls if they are needed."
"No other company has been able to match AppNeta's capability at the same price point."
"Technical support is exceptional. They are very available, willing to work with our technicians and engineers and very open to providing training to understand their product more thoroughly."
"A lot of times one of the AppNeta transactions showed that there is an issue, whereas everything seemed to be working properly. Once we dug into it, we realized that it really was highlighting a problem that otherwise we would not have seen."
"From a technical perspective, PathView provides an effective, reliable indicator of network availability across our widely distributed physical locations."
"Pathview is the most valuable feature."
"ScienceLogic is an excellent all around suite of tools."
"The customizable dashboard is my favorite feature because I have everything that matters to me in my role available immediately at sign on, and we can also customize a customer's dashboard view so that from analyst to C-level executive we can give the customer exactly what they want and need to see at sign on."
"The many features offered for one price, including discovery, asset management, alerting, and ticketing, with simplified ease of integration across all features."
"The customer service and support has been the best of any vendor I have had experience dealing with in my professional history."
"It is simple."
"We lacked the power or features that the EM7 dashboards provide, and have won more than one account based on that alone."
"Life before ScienceLogic was quite responsive, although we did managed services to a degree, they were more of a point in time check for the health of the client system rather than real time deep analysis, but now we’re able to resolve client problems not only before they have a problem but also, when we have to troubleshoot, we can look back in time and get a picture of what was going on with the network to avoid repeat occurrences."
"Since it is a SaaS-based product, the setup is not very difficult."

Cons

"Because of the nature of how AppNeta works in terms of using bursts to depict how a network path performs, it is hard to correlate 24 hour performance 100% accurately."
"It needs more improvements in monitoring of video streaming performance as well as more layers of breakdown in the front end performance."
"The VMware version doesn’t support video, so we have to ship hardware to remote locations."
"As you really start to grow your deployments, it does become quite expensive."
"Billing does not have a user friendly format that allows you to break down the billing of sub-companies and be able to see them with what has been spun up, what subscriptions are currently in use, what has been added new that month and to pull that in an easy to read and easy to import format."
"Having to deal with configuring the end devices using a USB stick is a bit cumbersome. It would be nice if there was a better way of handling that."
"I would like to see some advanced dashboard features. It could also be integrated with third-party tools. For example, an integration with a reporting solution would be helpful. Out-of-the-box, there are few dashboards or reports. What it does have is useful, but there should be additional dashboards."
"Cloud monitoring could be better. That's one of the biggest pain points for me. I have shared this feedback with them multiple times, but they're limited to some extent. That's one area where I've seen a problem."
"As we have increased the amount of devices and the range of those devices we have run in to scaling issues which will most likely cause us to stand up a brand new instance of ScienceLogic to meet our needs."
"It was challenging onboarding users."
"ScienceLogic is working towards a kind of AI, DKAIRA enablement, but I find one dependency is the frequent need to rely on professional services."
"They should improve their support process and add chat."
"They should improve database issues in HA and Failover mode, and provide documentation for all users , even if they are not customers."
"If I were a small to medium business, I probably wouldn't choose this provider. It is a heavily configurable, heavyweight, and scalable IT solution for IT infrastructure monitoring."
"I see room to do better in the network and SNMP trap processing."
"ScienceLogic could improve the implementation, it could be made easier."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's worth the money."
"The small probe is probably around $3,000 and the very large probe that they make for massive data centers might be $50,000 or $60,000. It's a subscription model, so the payment is per year."
"I find the solution's price to be fairly good."
"Broadcom software is always a little expensive because they provide quality."
"AppNeta by Broadcom is not expensive."
"We typically don't get involved in the commercial side, but the list price is probably something like $3,000 for a small probe. However, that gives all of the features that the probe can do, whether or not you use them. In the old days, up until two or three years ago, each of the separate features was a separately licensable module so that you could add things that you wanted, and you didn't have to add things that you didn't want. They've changed all that now, and everything the probe can do is a part of the base license."
"I inherited this from a different version, and I haven't yet gone through a renewal because we had purchased three years upfront. So, to me, that still remains to be seen. Once it comes up for renewal, we'll see what happens. Especially because now it is Broadcom, it is going to change anyway."
"The solution is license-based. It's between $8 and $15, depending on what you need from the product."
"The pricing model for ScienceLogic could improve."
"I'm not the best person to discuss pricing, but what I do know is that it's a use-and-go structure. You use this much storage and pay this much for it. That's how it is. Every time, we continue to add a large amount of data to the environment."
"Its price could be lower, but for what you pay, you got a lot of value from its features and functionalities. Customers always want a discount or a cheaper solution."
"Decide what you want to monitor and only monitor those items. Absorb other elements as you grow."
"Plan for adding more to it. Once you see EM7 in action, you will want to keep adding systems to monitor."
"The license of ScienceLogic is based on how many endpoints are used. The number of monitoring points you want to have."
"It comes with the OS built in, so no need to purchase an OS license or DB license."
