Managed cloud services have helped accelerate experiments with flexible configuration options
Sometimes the costs associated with spinning up a service, especially managed services, have implications. For example, if I create a Glue job, that will create S3 buckets and other resources that have cost implications, but once I clean up a Glue job, it does not delete the other accessory resources. Sometimes, I have to go hunting for what resources Amazon AWS might have provisioned and how it is costing behind the scenes. It can be complex depending on your level of expertise. It is not as easy to get started, especially when it comes to secure practices. Amazon AWS is more hands-on than other platforms.

They deployed and maintained our cloud infrastructure.
There should be the improved ability to speak directly to resources over the phone, rather than just through tickets and emails. Logicworks provides DevOps-as-a-Service functionality and is not really a software solution. My only issue with them is that it is difficult to talk to anyone live, as they manage all their service tickets through emails or their ticket portal. Perhaps, an enhancement that could be a button on the portal which could connect you via a web conference with the resource assigned to the ticket, would be helpful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We have used Amazon AWS for a very large scale of server deployment, and it has helped us scale quickly and save a lot of money instead of buying those services."
"Friendly console for implementation."
"We deploy our core application and our integration platform on AWS EC2 instances. These applications contain multiple containerized Python Django applications, which need to scale up and down dynamically."
"The most valuable features are load balancers, databases, and S3 buckets."
"Everything is moving to the cloud now, and AWS covers a lot of services, including computing, networking, storage, IoT, and management, and they are good in every way."
"User friendly solution."
"This solution is a good option if you are looking for cloud-based storage."
"The tool's most valuable features are AWS Security Hub and AWS GuardDuty."
"The stable environments, outsourcing of IT allowing us to keep very light headcount for the DevOps are the most valuable features of this solution."

Cons

"In some scenarios, Azure will support hybrid cloud better while AWS offers direct connection."
"On the console, they used to have some shortcuts making this solution easier to work with, but now we have been dealing with so many problems on the console, and some of the options are not very useful in my perspective, so they should bring back those options that make things easier to run some of the services."
"It's a good cloud, however, if I compare it with Azure, Azure is more of a feature-rich cloud."
"One of the problems that I have seen is that some of the products are not as mature as others."
"If you are familiar with other cloud infrastructures, you can see that it is in need of some enhancements."
"AWS is much too expensive compared to current on-premises solution for this type of work. AWS IaaS is a very generic service, which is extremely overpriced."
"I would like to see CloudFormation made more in the programming way of thinking."
"Some extensions are better than others."
"My only issue with them is that it is difficult to talk to anyone live, as they manage all their service tickets through emails or their ticket portal."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"In terms of price, there are less expensive options."
"We pay for Amazon AWS annually."
"The pricing is expensive."
"Be careful with your consumption, especially when you are testing things. Costs can creep up on you relatively fast, without even noticing."
"AWS is expensive and the cost should be reduced."
"Maintain a good budget, plan the consumption"
"We need to pay for everything. If someone is a personal user, they get one year free. But if you are using this as a professional or enterprise solution, then your company has to pay. The license pricing is comparable to that of competitors'."
"When you compare Amazon AWS to Microsoft Azure, the pricing of both is almost the same. There are some instances when one is cheaper than the other in one area but it is difficult to pinpoint which one is cheaper because it depends upon a lot of factors, such as the use case. However, the overall price of both solutions could be reduced."
