    What is most valuable?

    The flexibility to scale up is very good. Regardless of the customer, customization is not as complicated as it is in SAP or even ISS and other products.  There is a range of modules available in Oracle which you can switch on as you progress in your organization. You don't have to necessarily take a lot of time to kickstart the implementation. You can just start with basic HR, finance, and purchasing. Then, later on, you can extend the application landscape with more modules as you progress. There is essentially one solution for every industry within Oracle — you won't require a third-party solution. Still, if you wish to use a third-party solution because the price is too high or because of a specific technical requirement, then you are free to do so. 

    What needs improvement?

    I currently work for a company that specializes in aircraft maintenance. There used to be a module in Oracle called CMRO. Now, the current situation is that they are pretty much closing down that module. Roughly eight or nine years back when they started it, they were anticipating a good number of customers but the reality turned out to be different — that's why they closed down that module. That created a lot of trouble for a lot of companies. Truthfully speaking, that is the reason I moved towards ISS. Although it's not as popular as Oracle or SAP, ISS focuses on industries. ISS provides us with an industry-based solution, geared toward aviation, field service management, or manufacturing for example.  Oracle E-Business Suite uses an old technology (Forms), which is Java-based. If you're using a functionality that is based on Oracle Forms, then the client machine needs to download an applet in order to use that function. Often I've encountered, during support issues, that the client machine, if it is a little obsolete or an older version, the Java versions cause trouble. Wherein if you look at the modern cloud perspective or modern software in general, it's mostly web or browser-based. That's one thing that Oracle should consider on-prem. There is still a huge amount of customers who are on on-prem. Upgrades should have a business case. I don't want to upgrade just because Oracle has come up with a new version — I should have some benefits. We are one of those customers who are not interested in shifting to the cloud for various reasons. Because of this, we have to live with this old Forms technology. Oracle should try to offer a balance between both versions instead of pushing customers to the cloud. This seems to be a strategy that both SAP and Oracle follow.

    I have been using Oracle E-Business Suite for more than one year. In total, I have more than 10 years of experience with Oracle.

    How are customer service and support?

    Regarding their technical support, my personal experience over a period of two to three years is that you'll begin to notice a pattern regarding what time you should raise a service request so that it reaches the right place. Whether it goes to India or to Egypt — these are the two most popular centers for Oracle support. But if you manage to hit the right people, the support is there. 70 to 80 percent of the time, I receive a solution to my problems simply through the technical repository — within the portal itself. I prefer to do it like this rather than by creating a service request and waiting for a response from a potentially inexperience staff member. I'd rather just depend on the documentation. The documentation is very rich. The Oracle community is big.

    How was the initial setup?

    The initial setup was quite straightforward. I have worked with SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, and now I'm using ISS. With all of them, you need to have some basic expertise before you jump into the pool, otherwise, your life could be complicated. If you have that basic guidance and experience, it's not complicated when it comes to Oracle. Still, there are prerequisites for each of them — especially when it comes to Oracle. You need to have had hands-on experience with PL/SQL or developer experience with Java. The best part about Oracle is that it has openly published its documentation on its implementation checklist — how to follow, configure, etc. For this reason, it's much easier to implement Oracle compared to ISS or SAP, for example. This is due to the fact that they insist that you need to follow their documentation and it's not publicly available everywhere. This makes things a bit easier when it comes to Oracle.

    What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

    If you're buying a license, support is roughly 22% of the price of the whole product. So, in the first year, you'll definitely get support. Some companies, over a period of time, try to knock off the Oracle support costs because it just keeps growing. Every year, according to their published price, it will increase from three to five percent from the last year. Now, imagine you bought a product worth 1.5 billion; what would be the support cost in the first year? And then plus 5%, plus 5% — it goes on, and on. You'll come to a point where you feel you're wasting money because support is support whether I am paying for five users or 500 users. There is a solution for all of your current problems in Oracle E-Business Suite, but the constraint is the license. I'll give you a live example. Let's say I bought an employee self-service. What I would get is a bunch of licenses that I can use on the web version on my local internet. But with the current model of digitalization, you know that the employees would prefer to have some sort of mobile app or at least a desktop site. So, if I want that to happen, then I'd need to buy another set of licenses. The same self-service on the mobile version. These are the pain points with Oracle. The license is normalized or broken down to such a level that it becomes a pain. Regarding a new customer, unless he's been using this solution for two or three years, he won't get used to these licenses. There is a good chance that he'd become exploited by Oracle's account managers in terms of licenses. Oracle's licenses are not straightforward. Personally, I have worked on several projects where I have had to help customers understand Oracle licensing — it's not simple in SAP either. There are pros and cons to both solutions. Sometimes it could be beneficial and sometimes it's troublesome. That is something I feel that Oracle should try to simplify.

    What other advice do I have?

    Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give this solution a rating of seven.  Oracle E-Business Suite is not for small businesses as, over a period of time, you will incur a huge cost when it comes to hosting. It's not just about application licensing, there is also hosting infrastructure, etc. It's not the functionality that's the problem for small entities, it's the overall cost. Smaller companies should go for something like AppDynamics, SAP Business, or NetSuite.  Oracle is best suited for large organizations — from medium to large. It's a great solution for companies who grow quickly and need the best scalability possible. Unless you have a minimum user base of 3,000, you shouldn't be using Oracle. Oracle is for medium to large-sized companies that are projected to grow in one or two years. Otherwise, it will become a pain point for you because the IT expenses will shoot through the roof. As a product, as a functionality, if you check this particular prerequisite, I would definitely recommend it.

    What is our primary use case?

    Oracle E-Business Suite is a corporate business product. It has financial, logistics, HR modules, et cetera. It contains lots of modules. Thanks to this, our clients can track all of their business needs with one platform. They can also design their own business needs using this product.

    Within our organization, we also use Oracle E-Business Suite. However, we are only using a small part of it, mainly for financial purposes. We don't have any logistics issues. We are consultants: we don't buy and sell products, we don't have a warehouse, et cetera. Actually, all our call centers are onsite. From a company perspective, we have only five or six users, E-Business users. It's hard to give an exact number of how many clients of ours are using this solution, but if I had to estimate, I'd say roughly 10,000 users.

    What is most valuable?

    It's an all-in-one solution for corporate companies. There are lots of companies already using Oracle E-Business Suite as it can cover a wide variety of use cases. It's highly customizable. It's available as open-source. As it's open code, you can see what it's doing which makes it easier to customize things. These are the advantages of Oracle E-Business Suite compared to competitive products.

    What needs improvement?

    Some of my clients report that the overall ease of use could be simplified. The product still uses some old technology. Some of the modules have moved to new technologies like HTML, et cetera, but there are still old components and old sequence usages which bother my customers because they are not fancy and up-to-date. They're heavy-duty machines — they're not posh. They perform heavy-duty jobs. So users entering operational data, transactional data heavily, they love it; however, management-level doesn't like the screens because they don't look fancy.

    For how long have I used the solution?

    I have been using this solution for roughly 18 years.

    What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    As it's a heavy machine, it's a very stable product.

    What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    Yes, it's scalable. You can technically increase its performance by adding servers, et cetera. So it's highly scalable. I have lots of customers — both big and small companies. Some of them have only two gigabytes of data and others have 32 terabytes. It works well for both types of clients because it can easily be scaled.

    How are customer service and technical support?

    Support is a never-ending process because every day, our customers need to change things around. As such, customer support is never-ending. They ask for reports, or they need a new sequence, etc. So it's just a never-ending process.

    We have an operational team for technical support. They don't work onsite, unlike the consultants. They are a team of six or seven people. They typically work in an office, but due to the pandemic, they work at home. 

    Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

    Oracle Analytics is totally different from Oracle E-Business Suite because one of them is a reporting tool and the other one is just a generation tool. One of them has a sequence where you enter operational and transactional data using a sequence or integrations, et cetera. You collect data with Oracle E-Business Suite. And you use Oracle Analytics to repost them. So they are two different products.

    Oracle Cloud is nice. With on-premise products, people usually emphasize the setup time. The main difference between cloud and on-premise products is you don't have to provide service and you don't have to scale your service according to your needs. When it's on the cloud, it's easy to scale.

    Also, the cloud version of Oracle has new functionalities available. Oracle made an investment with the cloud version and they implemented customer needs and customer requests surrounding features that would benefit them — on the cloud, not on-premise.

    So the cloud product is highly functional compared to the on-premise version. That's the main difference between the cloud and the on-premise solution.

    How was the initial setup?

    Yeah, the initial setup is highly straightforward. It takes four or five days to install. Once we installed it, we made a copy and started using it. The first installation takes time — four or five days. Then, using the same installation, with cloning, it takes only one or two days, maximum. So it's easy to install.

    What about the implementation team?

    Regarding a deployment team. It depends on the project. For instance, for a big-sized financial company, I need two or three financial consultants. If it's for a logistics company, I need, again, two or three logistic consultants. If it's for a small or mid-sized company, one consultant is enough to implement the project. However, these functional consultants, because they set up the system according to business needs, they need technical support. So we have a technical support team for customization, et cetera. Five or six technical consultants is good enough, usually. If there are lots of integrations, et cetera, I need a technical team of 10 people team.

    Currently, we have three projects going on now. Two of them are upgrade projects and we have five consultants involved in each project. One of them is a scratch project, an implementation project. We have 15, 16, 17 people working on that project.

    What other advice do I have?

    I would recommend Oracle E-Business Suite to other potential users. Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give this solution a rating of eight.

    We expect some additional features, of course. We are located in Turkey and there are many tax legislation rules, et cetera. There are so many binding processes that make customizing this product for Turkish districts complicated. For instance, it's easy to customize products for Japan, Kuwait, and Germany because their tax rules are not very complex. But in Turkey, tax rules are really complex and change every month. The government changes everything all the time. Adapting the product to these changes is not easy.

    Oracle E-Business Suite is used for accounting activities. Customers use the general ledger and accounts receivable functions, and those make their lives easier, especially when the solution is well taken cared of, e.g. through patching then being able to assess the system on time.

    What is most valuable?

    What I found most valuable in Oracle E-Business Suite is the patching, because it is straightforward. As long as you follow Oracle best practices, you are able to finish the task of patching without a problem.

    I like that it's also easy to add products, e.g. if you want to add on financials, you can, or if you don't have financials, you can expand on that. I like that Oracle E-Business Suite is really scalable.

    What needs improvement?

    As the pricing for Oracle E-Business Suite is too high and maintaining it is too costly, instead of users patching in a timely manner, they complain about the price, and only do the patching whenever there's an issue. Pricing for this solution could still be improved by Oracle.

    Another area for improvement, particularly when working with the on-premises version of Oracle E-Business Suite, is that it can be difficult to expand, unlike its cloud version. On cloud, it's easier to improve on things, and there's a lot of improvement, while in the on-premises version, it's more limited.

    I've been using Oracle E-Business Suite since 2017.

    What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    The solution is also stable, but its stability depends on doing the patching on time, and as the maintenance of Oracle E-Business Suite is too costly based on feedback from people we've worked with, they only do the patching whenever an issue arises.

    What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    Oracle E-Business Suite is a really scalable solution.

    How are customer service and support?

    The technical support for Oracle E-Business Suite is good. If you do things right, their support can speed up the process, rather than relying on documents and their site. With Oracle support, proper knowledge, and understanding what the problem is, you'll be okay.

    What about the implementation team?

    I did the deployment myself. Deployment of this solution took a lot of time, because I was using my own laptop, and only had 16GB RAM. I experienced some errors, so deployment took almost a day to a day and a half.

    What was our ROI?

    Oracle E-Business Suite makes life easier for its users, so it really helps a lot in terms of return on investment. It was a great adventure for me to work on such an environment.

    My take on the ROI is based on the feedback of the customer I was helping. Looking at the fact that using the solution does not require you to spend most of your time trying to resolve issues, it will definitely help bring in the ROI.

    What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

    Most of the people we've worked with were complaining about the pricing of Oracle E-Business Suite being too high.

    What other advice do I have?

    I have worked mostly with Oracle E-Business Suite.

    I'm using the old version of the solution. The new version I was just using it to try on my own environment, e.g. doing the installation from scratch and trying to do it on my own. Oracle E-Business Suite has general ledger, financials, and HR functions, but I'm not much into those, as I'm much interested in the installation and administration of the solution.

    I'm particularly interested in the patching and installation of Oracle E-Business Suite, and when there's an issue, I'm able to address the issue, e.g. in case there's a need for patching, I can do it.

    I was looking at the interface of the latest version of Oracle E-Business Suite, as I was trying it, and compared to the previous version, there were so many changes to the interface. For now, I cannot say what can be changed or added to this solution, because there were so many changes to its interface, but it was easy to navigate through when you are training.

    Because Oracle E-Business Suite is being used in a government department, I can only give a range in terms of the number of end users: more than 100 and less than 1,000.

    My role was usually to run some Oracle assessment tools to gather information, and those tools will teach you about the whole system when you gather the information, depending on whether you understand the information on the report, so that gave me a lot of insight.

    It was only me who took care of the deployment and maintenance of Oracle E-Business Suite, then there's only engagement with a specialist or a system admin when needed, but in terms of doing the assessment for the solution, I do it myself.

    My advice to others planning to implement Oracle E-Business Suite is to be patient, especially when you do the administration part, because the solution is so broad, so it depends on what you are doing, e.g. there are different specializations such as financials, general ledger, etc. In terms of the technical part of it, it will be a matter of time to learn and to download those free ISOs from Oracle e-Delivery, and then try them. Doing that will definitely help, the same way it really helped me with Oracle E-Business Suite.

    I didn't evaluate other products, because my specialty is Oracle database administration. I'm a database administrator, and I'm focused on the database, Linux, and Oracle E-Business Suite. They all work well together.

    My rating for Oracle E-Business Suite is eight out of ten, because of the price.

    What is our primary use case?

    We have been using this as an enterprise solution for many things including for financials, for supply chain, for sales, for maintenance, for manufacturing, et cetera. You name it. It helps us with many business processes.  

    What is most valuable?

    As we have been using this for the past nine years we have had the opportunity to explore the product. Really everything has worked well and all the modules are very good. The financial parts are very good, the sales part is also very good, the maintenance of our supply-chain is meeting our requirements. It has been very helpful and it is hard to separate out one thing that is better.  

    What needs improvement?

    After the announcement of the cloud products, the on-premises products from Oracle are not garnering as much development attention. Some of the new features that used to come to us earlier before the cloud product are now coming at a slow pace. So we want Oracle to work on the on-premises product in parallel with their cloud product. E-Business Suite should not fall behind.  

    What I want to improve about this product is the user interface. In some of the modules compared to recent, cloud module releases do not have a very nice look-and-feel because they are letting the on-premises product age. Compared to the advanced cloud modules, this product has some rigid look-and-feel for the user experience.  

    For how long have I used the solution?

    We have been using the Oracle E-Business Suite for about nine years.  

    What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    I am satisfied with the stability of most of the Oracle products which we are using right now. The problem is not the stability but a lack of new development.  

    What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    I think the E-Business Suite is very highly scalable. Right now in my organization, we have around 1000 total users. We have been increasing usage over the years and have plans to increase usage going into the future. We are going to continue to use the on-premises product in the future because it is not easy for us to migrate to any other products. That is primarily because it is a huge implementation here.  

    How are customer service and technical support?

    We do have experience with the product technical support. Whenever the support is assigned to India, we are not satisfied with it because we do not get quality support from teams in India. But whenever that support is assigned to any other country — that may be from the US or any European country — the support is phenomenal. When we reach good support they know the product very well and the experience is good. That is where I think the Indian resources are a bit concerning. The support from them really takes a lot of time.  

    Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

    We were using another product nine or ten years ago. It was a very old product made by IBM. That was AS/400.  

    How was the initial setup?

    I think the initial setup is done in a very smart way. It is not very complex. If a person is technical enough to do it, it will be easy for him or her. If someone is not comfortable doing the installation, it will be difficult for him or her. 

    The deployment was about nine years back, so I do not remember everything exactly. I think it took us around two to three days. What I consider deployment may have a different definition for some people and may not be the same definition for me. As long as by 'deployment' it means just the installation and initial configuration, then it is just a few days. When it comes to setting up and finalizing all of the business requirements and going live with the system, it took us four to five months.  

    What about the implementation team?

    We used a consultant for the deployment. It was from an Oracle partner in Pakistan.  

    Even though we used the services of a consultant, we have an in-house support team. We do not require any support from outside and no longer require or include any external vendors. So we have a team of around 25 people supporting this application.  

    What other advice do I have?

    The advice that I would give to others who want to start using this product is that, in this day and age, you need to first evaluate different products. At the very least you would want to compare the E-Business Suite with the other Oracle cloud products.  

    On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate the Oracle E-Business product at an eight-out-of-ten.

    What is our primary use case?

    I use this solution for Core HR, Absence Management, and payroll.

    What is most valuable?

    Oracle EBS is a mature product. It fills many needs.

    It is a gate to doing customization, as there is a need for custom solutions.

    It can easily be developed into an application.

    I can also easily plug into the business cycle.

    What needs improvement?

    There are some cycles in HR that are not straightforward. For example, the attendance approach, and the second admin transfers are not straightforward procedures.

    We can see many features in the cloud and other applications that are not supported in EBS. For example, in iRecruitment, the recruitment or selection workflow process for candidates to be recruited is very advanced, it's a very skilled and enhanced process in Taleo. This is not something that is present in EBS but there are many requirements for this. Customers require this area of recruitment. For example, in Taleo, a person cannot move from the HR interview to the technical interview unless he has passed the HR interview. This does not exist in EBS. Many customers are asking for this functionality.

    In Taleo, Candidate workflow allows you to do this. They give you the feature to configure that selection workflow for the candidates in terms of steps. You cannot move from this step until you complete the first step. This is definitely an area to consider.

    There is strength in the product but we are always looking for weakness to improve.

    The reporting area is very weak. It needs some improvements.

    The embedded analytics is something new but it's a bit complicated. They tried to embed the analytics into the EBS with the same model as in FUSION but it's not easy or straightforward to enhance and maintain.

    Organizational restructuring is a horrible process and very difficult in EBS.

    For how long have I used the solution?

    I am currently an HCCM Team lead. I have 12 years of experience in implementing Oracle.

    I also have been working with Oracle E-Business Suite for 12 years.

    I am certified in Oracle HCCM Cloud applications.

    I work with many versions. I have worked with versions 11, 12, and now 12.2.9.

    What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Generally speaking, Oracle E-Business Suite is a stable product.

    Any product can have bugs, but it depends on where the bug is and if you have a workaround or not.

    One of the drawbacks with Oracle is that it seems to take them a long time to release a solution for the bugs or enhancements. For example, there is a bug found in 2011 that has not been resolved or closed until now.

    There are, however, technology bugs or functional bugs that are enhancements that you find in certain services such as contract screens, contracts, or payments. Oracle will call this an enhancement request, we can deliver it but for now, there is no delivery for this solution.

    What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    This is a scalable solution.

    Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

    I am just learning Taleo, I have a small amount of experience and a few customers.

    How was the initial setup?

    The initial setup is straightforward. While you can complete the installation yourself, you will need to know the product and how the product is configured.

    An understanding of the business process is required to easily configure the application.

    You must have the knowledge to know the subsequent actions, how they are done, and how the links are set up together. For example, I can define lookup, and to do this I will research to know if it will use the standard form, or if it will use the value set or the standard use for one report or other types of validations.

    Overall, I believe that it is always best to ask someone who is experienced. For example, if we consider the iPhone mobile, we may ask how can we take a picture, If you are coming from Android to iOS, you will ask someone with experience in this type of operating system, how you can do related things or supporting context.

    What about the implementation team?

    I completed the installation myself. I did not use the help of an integrator or consultant.

    What other advice do I have?

    I have a lot of experience, and I work with many customers. I know what they require and which features they are looking for.

    I would like to see where Oracle E-Business Suite will take the roadmap. I don't know if they will invest more in the roadmap for EBS or investing in the cloud.

    In summary, this is a good product but there is always an area for improvement.

    I would rate Oracle E-Business Suite a seven out of ten.

    What is our primary use case?

    We use the solution in a variety of ways via modules. There are parts for employees and other areas for services. On top of that, we have modules for supply chains. We have modules for human resource management, and financial as well as for retail and inventory.

    How has it helped my organization?

    The solution has helped the organization in a multitude of ways. For example, it has really helped with the way we manage retail orders. The automation of retail and dealer order management has helped us a lot. It is one big use case that's a good example of the transformation that's possible with this product. Previously, the order management was manual. Currently, it has been automated to such a degree that a dealer can simply go to a portal, and actually make a payment. The payment reflects right in the system. After making the payment in the system, the dealer is able to make an order. Within a matter of 10 to 20 minutes, he has his stock. There's an integration between the dealer self-service system to the ERP to inventory and even to the warehouse. Everything surrounding that is fully automated, thanks to Oracle Release 12.

    What is most valuable?

    The most valuable aspect of the solution is the employee self-service.

    The order management is excellent.

    What needs improvement?

    I would say the integration needs improvement. Oracle needs to work on the integration layer to make the solution much more robust and modern.

    The solution needs full cloud netting.

    For how long have I used the solution?

    I've been using the solution since I joined the company. It's been about seven or so years now.

    What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    The solution is stable. So far we've not had a priority one or priority two incidence from Oracle E-Business. There aren't bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. So far so good. I'd describe it as reliable at this point.

    What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    The scalability of the solution is good. If a company needs to expand the solution, they should be able to do so.

    Our company has between 5,000 to 10,000 users if you factor in the dealers and the employees together. Our average employee count is 6,000. That's employees alone. On top of that, we have dealers who are around 3,000. Adding both groups together, you are looking at somewhere between 6,000 and 10,000 users.

    How are customer service and technical support?

    The solution technically is supported well both from Oracle, who is the owner of the solution, and IBM, who is the integrator. I cannot complain. So far, we're quite satisfied with the technical support offered by both companies.

    Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

    When I joined, the company was on a previous version of Oracle. One of the first tasks I handled when I joined I was to head up the upgrade project. It's a solution that's been used from the beginning, or, at least that's my understanding.

    How was the initial setup?

    I wouldn't describe the initial setup as straightforward. It's very complex. Even Oracle themselves would say that this solution has the most complex implementation of their products. It might even be one of the most complex in the world.

    Deployment took almost one year. This was due to the fact that the analysis design alone took almost six to seven months. Implementation and testing alone took another five or so months. 

    What about the implementation team?

    We used an integrator and a consultant to assist us in the implementation. The consultants were from Oracle and the integrator was IBM. We needed them both due to the complex nature of the setup.

    What other advice do I have?

    Our relationship with Oracle is simplly one of supplier-customer relations.

    This solution is deployed in our organization on credit in two sides active-active.

    What I would tell other companies considering the solution is this: first, they need to know that it is an expensive solution. It's very expensive and therefore could only be affordable for companies that have a given level of revenue. 

    Beyond that, I would say Oracle needs to be a fit for future use in terms of being cloud-native. Organizations should ensure their solution can run on other public cloud providers other than Oracle themselves. They need to have their permission that it can be deployed in AWS or Azure or Google. Right now, the cloud version that they have most likely locks to Oracle cloud itself and they just need to be aware they need the option and flexibility.

    I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

    What is our primary use case?

    This solution is used for handling a lot of modules and files, e.g. HR and supply chain. These are the main uses of Oracle E-Business Suite in the workforce.

    How has it helped my organization?

    This solution offers customization. We have the ability to change and add our custom solutions and integrate them with the standard ones.

    These modules are integrated together. HR files are integrated with the supply chain files, e.g. employees are defined on the HR module. You can use this solution as a buyer or as a supplier, and it has a file server. Transferring files is integrated with HR, and the files would be applied to the employees. It can be used and it can uptake the accounts and copy them to the server, and all of the modules could be integrated together.

    What is most valuable?

    The most valuable feature of Oracle E-Business Suite is that it is customizable.

    What needs improvement?

    The biggest improvement for Oracle is for them to move to the cloud. With Oracle E-Business Suite, movement to the cloud should be supported. I am still not working on cloud applications, but I will eventually.

    For how long have I used the solution?

    I've been implementing this solution for four or five years.

    What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    This solution is very stable.

    What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    Scalability is not related to our Oracle plan. We are not allowed to expand. We're only allowed to apply our custom solution. If we want to add a page or add a screen, we are allowed to do that within limits. We are not allowed to change the Oracle product itself. We can add something, but without touching any object that Oracle implements.

    How are customer service and support?

    Sometimes, Oracle's support is very good and they give fast replies to all cases, but not all replies contain the solution. Sometimes they provide accurate solutions and effective solutions. Other times, they don't. Support could be improved.

    What about the implementation team?

    The initial setup and deployment were done by another team in our company. We call them the DBA team (Database Administrators).

    What other advice do I have?

    I am not working with Oracle Business Intelligence (BI). I am working as an Oracle developer, but not with Oracle development tools. I am working with tools such as Oracle Reports and Oracle Workflow Builder, but not with business intelligence tools.

    I don't work for an Oracle Vendor, but I implement some products, e.g. the Oracle E-Business Suite.

    We are developers and we aren't authorized to set up. For setup, there are other people concerned with setup, such as the administrators. There are three main jobs in this field. Administrators are responsible for setup, security, and configuration. Consultants are the ones who know the business, business rules, and verification among application screens or pages. Developers receive the instructions from the consultants and apply these solutions technically, and also add and make changes.

    I am working as a freelancer, so I don't know all the sites the company implements this solution in, but it depends on the customization needed in each site. Some sites don't have a lot of requirements, e.g. they use the standard form of the application, meaning they don't need a lot of customization. There are sites or huge companies that have a lot of different business cases so they would need a lot of customization. It could take more than one year or two years to complete.

    We are from Egypt and we fall under the Gulf area market. Most clients are from the Gulf area, but I don't know exactly how many clients. The main competition is between SAP and Oracle, but in the Gulf area, Oracle E-Business Suite is used more than SAP.

    I don't know exactly how much this solution costs, but it will depend on the number of users.

    My advice to people who want to implement Oracle E-Business Suite is to first be clear about the customizations they need. This is important. They should be clear and know what exactly they need to implement, and they should also know accurately the changes they want to implement for their business.

    I am not able to give a rating because Oracle E-Business Suite is the first app on the market. Every application has disadvantages or points of weakness, but Oracle, SAP, and Microsoft Dynamics are three of the most accurate. They are the three best products in the world, but for this solution, I'm giving a seven out of ten.

    What is our primary use case?

    I use this solution for human capital management. It's all been mingled into one product called Oracle HCM Cloud. It manages all your HR requirements from hiring, onboarding, and managing your payrolls. It has over 10 different models inside. Oracle expects clients to have that product, which is the basis for your financials, sales and distribution, procurement, etc. If you have HCM, you basically set up the structure of the enterprise.

    Most of their applications have been moved to cloud enterprise. It's SaaS, and they have a patch where they provide the database and application so you can work on it. There's another one where they provide everything and you have your own infrastructure of hardware as well.

    What is most valuable?

    They have various products, so it depends on your enterprises. If it's finance-based, you'll mostly be looking at financial models, like the financial collaboration, financial management, budgeting, and forecasting. If you're in a distribution area, you'll be looking into models like inventory, warehouse management, and supplier-oriented models. They have SRM and they have CRM, which is customer relationship management.

    You can group them into the BIs, which is business intelligence. You get your own key performance indicators and build your own reports or you could have your own screens, and it changes in real time.

    What needs improvement?

    From the business processes, there are areas where you could streamline new processes. You could take out some of the redundant ones, which you are either using or don't want to use, but you're still using it because it's been coming from your legacy systems.

    For how long have I used the solution?

    I've been working with Oracle for 25 years.

    I work as a project manager, but I was a principal consultant with Oracle. For the last 10 years, I've been mostly managing projects in diversified industries.

    What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    It has to be a stable system because then it affects your business processes.

    What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    You should be able to scale it.

    How are customer service and support?

    Technical support is good, and they offer different types of support. Oracle has a very large technical support team. Without support, I think it would be very difficult for customers to manage.

    How was the initial setup?

    Installation has become simpler and takes less time. Before, there were lots of dependencies and it required lots of expertise. 

    The deployments have a much shorter cycle. Previously, we were doing projects that went on for a year or three years. Nowadays with the cloud implementation, I've done projects in three months or six months maximum, maybe a year. They have consolidated most of their features and functions. It makes training and chain management much easier, so your project time gets shortened basically.

    All the big companies – even midsize or smaller – use some sort of ERP or business suite because it's impossible to go back to the smaller products or homegrown legacy systems because of the maintenance and dependencies.

    What about the implementation team?

    The bigger organizations tend to go for system integrators because they have the budget for projects and their projects are a little bit bigger. I would recommend in-house implementation if you have a special team.

    What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

    Whatever the products you use, you'll be paying a yearly maintenance price or a support price. Every time they have a new release, they will announce that they will be discontinuing the support for that particular release in three years or four years so that customers can move into a higher release.

    My understanding is that Oracle charges per user in some areas, but they have a minimum licensing fee, depending on how big the organization is. From the Oracle point of view, I think they know what the market charges and they're very competitive.

    What other advice do I have?

    I would rate this solution 9 out of 10.

    My suggestion would be to look at what you're currently using, what your requirements are, how those requirements can be met, from what models or offerings you should be going for, and what is the end result you want to achieve by implementing a half a million dollar product. Are you okay with your return on your investment? Those are some of the questions you should be asking yourself.
