Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Management becomes easier with minimal complications, but improvement in support tools needed
Regarding areas of improvement for Symantec Endpoint Security, there are many changes, and the support portal tool is complicated compared to other tools. When trying to get service from Symantec, the process is complex. I'm not sure whether it's because of my project or something else. Though it is easy to manage, easy to get, easy to install, and works efficiently for managing policies, we faced a significant disadvantage. We wanted to add multiple hashes because of numerous new alerts coming, but we could only add them one by one, which is a considerable disadvantage in Symantec.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I generally believe that Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is probably the best in the market right now."
"The solution allows us to make investigations. Other XDR solutions also provide similar capabilities but for investigation, Cortex XDR is better."
"We can use Cortex XDR to get the entire graph of the incidents from source to destination, and we can take remedial action."
"Stability is one of the features we like the most."
"If you are looking for security, mainly for advanced threat prevention from ransomware and malware attacks, I would recommend Cortex."
"Overall, it's a great platform; it integrates very well with other solutions from Palo Alto and also with our vendors, the ease of use is excellent, I love the root cause analysis from Cortex, which is amazing, and in a few clicks you can have the full root cause."
"We switched because there were a lot of added features with Palo Alto that Check Point didn't have, and it was an upgrade for us."
"They have a new GUI which is just fantastic."
"It is a good product; it has saved us from external attacks and viruses."
"It is a complete and the best solution if your use case is small and you need more productivity and more security."
"The application and device control are valuable features, and the live update is another one. We have a schedule to check every four hours for the live update."
"The solution is constantly getting updated with the latest definitions, it's easy to get it across to all clients, the agent installation is very easy and the agent will talk to the server, and it is very easy to manage everything in relation to the implementation and processing."
"Endpoint protection has improved our operations by protecting our servers from potential cyber threats."
"The solutions' main features are patch management and security."
"What I like most about Symantec is the intrusion detection module. If you are scanning the environment, it will flag a possible intruder and tell you the IP and where the attack is coming from. Traditional antivirus solutions will never flag that. If you have a traditional SIEM, you might be able to pick that up. Symantec is a holistic endpoint security solution, so when you scan an endpoint, Symantec will let you know that something is happening to it."
"The features I find the most valuable are the protection, the encryption, and the DLP."
"It adds some new features to this popular all-in-one suite including parental controls and better protection and performance."
"It provides confidence by ensuring software programs are virus free and file integrity through an online backup."
"Norton 360 is a real all around application."
"Norton 360, commonly referred to as all-in-one bundle, combines both total data protection against threats and a backup facility."

Cons

"Previously, the endpoint would leave the environment, not being on our VPN, essentially unable to interact with the server to upload files. It was unable to retrieve new file verdicts. It was using a thing called "local analysis" to determine if something was a malicious file or not. There was no dynamic analysis."
"It takes time to scan the servers and devices."
"There's room for improvement with Mac device installations, which can be challenging."
"In the next release, I would like to see more UI improvements. Their UI is a bit basic. When we are speaking about Palo Alto Networks they are the big company, so they can improve the UI a little bit. The UI, the reports, the log system can all be improved."
"We have found that there are times Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks does not detect some of the viruses, we have to use another protection solution called Kaspersky."
"The negative aspect I see is the economic model used by Palo Alto."
"If they had pulse rate detection, it would be better."
"The solution eats memory of the computer, unlike anything I've ever seen."
"It needs to die."
"The Symantec Endpoint Manager is very difficult to use and extremely old."
"I'd like to see a full anti-ransomware solution because there are some anti-ransomware functionalities that would assist us if they were included in the solution."
"We are essentially left with a vulnerability."
"There is room for improvement in the zero-day threat detection system."
"The localization could be better. It could be more friendly for local users."
"It should support the next-generation IPS. Currently, it supports only IPS."
"Technical support is a bit of an issue."
"Norton uses an enormous amount of memory on your computer and slows the computer down unnecessarily."
"The free online storage capacity is limited."
"Norton 360 is still heavy."
"Expiration of the subscription shuts down all the features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I don't like that they have different types of licenses."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is quite an expensive solution."
"It is cost-effective compared to similar solutions. It fits for the small businesses through to the big businesses."
"The pricing is a little high. It is per user per year."
"In terms of the cost Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is very expensive because we are a Mexican company and when you translate dollars to pesos the cost is very high. The solution is very expensive for Mexican companies. I understand that they have international prices, but I do not think it offsets the price enough for many companies in countries, such as Mexico. The amount it is reduced is not a massive percentage."
"It's about $55 per license on a yearly basis."
"Traps pays for itself within the first 16 months of a three-year subscription. This is attributed to OPEX savings, as security teams spent less time trying to identify and isolate malware for analysis as a result of a reduction in malware incidents, false positives, and breach avoidance."
"The cost depends on your chosen license type, like Pro or other licenses."
"Its price is reasonable."
"The pricing is pretty much at the market standard... Symantec is not that cheap and it's not that expensive compared to CrowdStrike. I would put them in the 'middle block.'"
"We pay our licensing fees on a yearly basis, and everything is included in that price."
"The price of Symantec End-User Endpoint Security is okay. When comparing the price of this solution is not expensive."
"Its price should be reasonable."
"Each annual client license is around 1200 or 1600 INR."
"The problem is Symantec is more expensive than other vendors."
"Symantec Endpoint Security is a moderately priced solution."
