Weekly insights and risk analysis facilitate informed security decisions
I appreciate the weekly insights Zafran provides, which include critical topics for networks and IT security, allowing us to evaluate which insights apply to our environment. The organization score feature is valuable to keep the leadership team updated on how our infrastructure fares security-wise. The applicable risk level versus base risk level feature is beneficial because prior to Zafran, we only used the base risk level, but now understand that risk depends on the asset itself. Zafran is an excellent tool.

Affordable tool boosts code scanning efficiency but faces integration hurdles
I lead a code security practice for our organization. We integrated Snyk into our GitHub, using CLI to automatically scan codebases and identify issues. We are a large organization with three independent entities, consolidating Snyk across all entities.  We also provide access through numerous…

Makes vulnerability management efficient with a single pane of glass and daily report generation
There are areas for improvement. Initially, when onboarding Vulcan Cyber, the setup and configuration was more complex than expected with a user-friendly approach. This aspect can be enhanced. An important area is performance and speed, as Vulcan Cyber often lacks speed when exporting reports. The team might have to work on scaling up servers. When we click on a vulnerability, it takes ten seconds to pop up a window and show the entire content. Instead of that, they can put a down arrow, and all the details should be shown on clicking the arrow. This will prevent that ten-second delay. Another area for improvement is providing support and documentation for their tool. Users should have access to easy-to-understand trial documentation for reference.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Zafran has become an indispensable tool in our cybersecurity arsenal."
"We are able to see the real risk of a vulnerability on our environment with our security tools."
"We saw benefits from Zafran Security almost immediately after deploying it."
"Overall, we have seen about eighty-seven percent reduction of the number of vulnerabilities that require urgency to remediate, specifically the number of criticals."
"Zafran is an excellent tool."
"The most important feature of Snyk is its cost-effectiveness compared to other solutions such as Check Point."
"Snyk categorizes the level of vulnerability into high, medium, and low, which helps organizations prioritize which issues to tackle first."
"Its reports are nice and provide information about the issue as well as resolution. They also provide a proper fix. If there's an issue, they provide information in detail about how to remediate that issue."
"The solution's vulnerability database, in terms of comprehensiveness and accuracy, is very high-level. As far as I know, it's the best among their competitors."
"The CLI feature is quite useful because it gives us a lot of flexibility in what we want to do. If you use the UI, all the information is there and you can see what Snyk is showing you, but there is nothing else that you can change. However, when you use the CLI, then you can use commands and can get the output or response back from Snyk. You can also take advantage of that output in a different way. For the same reason, we have been using the CLI for the hard gate in the pipeline: Obtain a particular CDSS score for vulnerability. Based on that information, we can then decide if we want to block or allow the build. We have more flexibility if we use the CLI."
"The code scans on the source code itself were valuable."
"I find SCA to be valuable. It can read your libraries, your license and bring the best way to resolve your problem in the best scenario."
"Snyk helps me pinpoint security errors in my code."
"Vulcan Cyber gives the remediation team the focus points."
"Vulcan Cyber offers a single pane of glass for centralizing our security data."
"Vulcan enables us to automate tickets from multiple scanners. It has lots of analytics options that show us charts and allow us to view the statuses in different waves. The dashboard is nice because it's highly informative about the big picture."
"The interface of Vulcan Cyber is intuitive with a lot of information about vulnerabilities, which helps in classifying and analyzing threats. We have a good view of assets and vulnerabilities. It helps to do good threat analysis because we can see exactly what the threat is and assess it accordingly."
"Vulcan Cyber helps us prioritize the vulnerabilities that are really exploitable and our point of interest for the industry based on the threat intelligence that we get."
"There is a lot of flexibility in exporting, making it a really good feature. The exporting flexibility based on application type is commendable and provides significant value."
"It is very good when it comes to ingesting information from different sources and then displaying this information in an easy-to-use platform."
"The interface of Vulcan Cyber is intuitive with a lot of information about vulnerabilities, which helps in classifying and analyzing threats."

Cons

"The dashboarding and reporting functionality of Zafran Security is an area that definitely could use some improvements."
"Initially, we were somewhat concerned about the scalability of Zafran due to our large asset count and the substantial amount of information we needed to process."
"I think the ability to have some enhanced reporting capabilities is something they can improve on, as they have good reports but we have asked for some specific reporting enhancements."
"All such tools should definitely improve the signatures in their database. Snyk is pretty new to the industry. They have a pretty good knowledge base, but Veracode is on top because Veracode has been in this business for a pretty long time. They do have a pretty large database of all the findings, and the way that the correlation engine works is superb. Snyk is also pretty good, but it is not as good as Veracode in terms of maintaining a large space of all the historical data of vulnerabilities."
"We were using Microsoft Docker images. It was reporting some vulnerabilities, but we were not able to figure out the fix for them. It was reporting some vulnerabilities in the Docker images given by Microsoft, which were out of our control. That was the only limitation. Otherwise, it was good."
"Snyk's API and UI features could work better in terms of speed."
"We would like to have upfront knowledge on how easy it should be to just pull in an upgraded dependency, e.g., even introduce full automation for dependencies supposed to have no impact on the business side of things. Therefore, we would like some output when you get the report with the dependencies. We want to get additional information on the expected impact of the business code that is using the dependency with the newer version. This probably won't be easy to add, but it would be helpful."
"Technically, we have better vulnerabilities detection in Checkmarx and Veracode. Both of them are more precise about vulnerabilities detection."
"Could include other types of security scanning and statistical analysis"
"The solution could improve the reports. They have been working on improving the reports but more work could be done."
"They were a couple of issues which happened because Snyk lacked some documentation on the integration side. Snyk is lacking a lot of documentation, and I would like to see them improve this. This is where we struggle a bit. For example, if something breaks, we can't figure out how to fix that issue. It may be a very simple thing, but because we don't have the proper documentation around an issue, it takes us a bit longer."
"Improvements are needed in providing more concise details on how to apply remedies for particular vulnerabilities. I would like to have more information about the remedies for particular vulnerabilities so that we do not have to go through the CVE numbers and relevant pages to check for a particular vulnerability and its remedy."
"Mainly, what I would like from them is more maintenance of the different connectors they have in the platform."
"The product helps, but the reporting relies heavily on Power BI. It is limited to graphical views and requires additional filtering, posing operational challenges."
"The performance is bad. The query and the UI are always slow, and it's quite frustrating. Vulcan is trying to solve this with a newer design. The dashboard is also crowded. It pulls in all this raw information that you need to filter. Vulcan has filtering capabilities, but they're hard to manage. The labels aren't very clear, so you need to do things by trial and error. It's not as easy as other tools we've been using."
"I would rate the tool between six and seven because there have been instances when the tool was down, and I couldn't access Cyber reports. Additionally, the Vulcan Cyber team made changes to the tool and did not notify us."
"Improvements are needed in providing more concise details on how to apply remedies for particular vulnerabilities."
"Initially, when onboarding Vulcan Cyber, the setup and configuration was more complex than expected with a user-friendly approach. This aspect can be enhanced."
"Monitoring of the evolution of campaigns and perhaps having more customized options for monitoring them would be great."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The product's price is okay."
"Despite Snyk's coverage, scalability, reliability, and stability, it is available at a very competitive price."
"Presently, my company uses an open-source version of the solution. The solution's pricing can be considered quite reasonable owing to the features they offer."
"The license model is based on the number of contributing developers. Snyk is expensive, for a startup company will most likely use the community edition, while larger companies will buy the licensed version. The price of Snyk is more than other SLA tools."
"Cost-wise, it's similar to Veracode, but I don't know the exact cost."
"The solution is less expensive than Black Duck."
"The product has good pricing."
"We are using the open-source version for the scans."
"Our leadership knows better about the pricing. As per my knowledge, which might not be accurate, its price can come down."
"Its pricing is quite fair compared to what is out there in the market, especially compared to the tool from Microsoft. It is a SaaS platform that has an annual cost, so it is something that is already used by many companies. It is quite affordable."
