Unified semantic layer has driven informed credit risk decisions and real-time analytical insight
Performance-related issues are a concern, as in multiple reports I have seen, some reports were poorly performing. We can focus on implementation of performance so that reports are delivered within seconds. The user interface and self-service experience can be improved through modernization of the UI, addressing self-service limitations, and integrating with mobile. Technical and administrative complexities can also be addressed. Complexities such as system configuration require attention. In the initial setup of Oracle OBIEE, there are multiple things starting from infrastructure provisioning, database schemas, and WebLogic server installations. However, the RPD, the semantic layer, is the steepest hurdle. Security integration, integrating with LDAP or Active Directory, is rarely plug and play and requires deep knowledge of WebLogic. Deep knowledge is necessary when starting with the initial setup of Oracle OBIEE. Other dependencies include Java middleware and client tools. Since Oracle OBIEE deals with huge data, report performance is the biggest concern. The out-of-the-box setup is rarely optimized, so we need to manually check configuration files, such as nqsconfig.ini file settings. For recommendations in Oracle OBIEE, from what I have seen, we work with star schemas in the RPD. I always aim for the star schema in the business model, even if the physical source is normalized. This approach will impact the performance, speed of the data, and accuracy. Oracle OBIEE could improve to allow other schemas as well. Performance is a major area for improvement, and they should work on aggregating the persistence and improve the persistence wizard where we implement aggregations. Caching features have been given, including event polling tables where we can do purging and seeding, but the main focus should be with respect to schema designs.

A customizable solution that helps to pull reports and send them as emails
We were manually populating things but the tool has helped us automate the process. We could pull the report automatically and send it as an email.  The tool is customizable, and it is not limited to any feature that it is built upon. You can do anything that you would like to do.  You need to…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We run a lot of smart view reports, which have been valuable to our business."
"Several KPI reports and different analytical reports can be generated for the operations team."
"It is flexible, which is important, and it has a previewing script, so it's easy for us to convert from Oracle Financial to OBIEE."
"It's so easy for us to see everything on a single dashboard, instead of looking for the information, and then compiling it in some sort of spreadsheet."
"For me, it makes the difference is in terms of our users being able to take advantage of a product which allows you to get access to data, reports, make decisions quickly, and have better insights regarding operations."
"I have found the most valuable features are business intelligence and reporting."
"Management and operational teams have access to information as and when they need it, insights pop up on a daily basis, and the business has transformed into a knowledge-empowered operation, with decisions at all levels being made on facts rather than guess work."
"The technical support services are good."
"We were manually populating things but the tool has helped us automate the process. We could pull the report automatically and send it as an email."

Cons

"It would be beneficial to allow the user to further personalize their own page a little bit more instead of just being presented with data."
"When you open up SR Oracle has a list of things which they ask for. Being an end customer, when we open an SR, we give as much information as we want and again the support person comes into the picture, and without reading what we have put through, they just ask the same questions over and over."
"I think there are some issues to be solved, and it needs some visual improvements, especially on the charts, but it is still the best solution in my opinion."
"Retail, Finance, Wholesale"
"It has very good features but it is missing going quickly into the cloud, and virtualization - unlike other vendors."
"It is very biased towards Oracle infrastructure. One of the major red flags we have at the moment against Oracle is that it doesn't support deployment on other cloud providers. We're quite heavily vested in AWS as our infrastructure, and Oracle is yet to formally support deploying on those virtual infrastructure instances. That's quite disappointing, and it also cuts them out of over 70% of the market."
"There are times we have slowness when processing the reports with Oracle OBIEE. Improving the performance would be beneficial."
"There is very little within the repository administration tool to guide you on how to achieve complex tasks and the documentation is quite brief."
"You need to put queries manually. When you customize, you need to put queries manually."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is an expensive solution."
"The licensing cost for Oracle OBIEE is expensive."
"If you compare Qlik Sense and Oracle OBIEE licensing, then Oracle products are much better. With Qlik Sense, you have to pay per client and per use. But we get Oracle OBIEE along with the Oracle database, making it much more cost-effective in the long term."
"It's comparable to the current technology we're using, Qlik Sense."
"I would rate it a 4 out of 5 in terms of pricing."
"Compared with the other products in the market, I feel Oracle OBIEE is an expensive product."
"Its licensing is yearly."
"This was not an expensive product for us, although the price varies depending on conditions for each company."
