Real-time alerts have reduced server outage impact and support fast incident response
In the dashboard, if they could show a little more metrics regarding the application and related things, that would be how New Relic could be improved. Currently, there are things showing from the server level and application level, but it can be improved. That is what I felt. Regarding user interface, I do not feel much concern, but for some kind of issues when we are trying to get support from the New Relic team, their SLA seems to be long. They are taking seven to ten working days for resolving some kind of scenario or issue. That is a bit difficult for us. If they could improve the customer support by reducing their SLA within three to five days, if they could remediate everything, that will be so much helpful. When it comes to the customer support part, I felt they need to be a little more improved on that part. The support overall is good, but they can improve. That is the reason I have given it eight out of ten.

Offers real-time alerting and dashboards are great for performance hubs of the database
It's primarily for CPU utilization and resource monitoring. Vulnerability scanning falls under OCI Cloud Guard, so it's related to security concerns. Some people might prefer using a third-party tool for more enhanced features. However, I think Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service could be improved to reduce the need for third-party connectivity. So overall, third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service. OCI needs more research and development to understand why clients choose third-party tools like Splunk or QRadar over internal monitoring solutions. There must be some areas where third-party tools are better. OCI could analyze this and improve its service.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We have never faced any issues with this solution, and we are not worried about the technical capability."
"From the perspective of effort and time taken while identifying issues and resolution, we have gained a lot."
"Error rates are a good indicator for potential rollbacks for a potential deployment – and usually it’s pretty instantaneous."
"It gives us insight into several areas-- Where slowdowns are, Which of our customers is hitting us most, and If there’s an application issue on the database side, how long a query takes."
"The scalability of New Relic APM is good; we have not had any issue with scalability when we use different types of loads, and it worked very well."
"We detect issues using dashboards that we built on New Relic."
"However, as a dev-ops tool, it has been priceless."
"It is easy to set up from scratch, as you don’t need resources."
"Real-time alerting is a very important feature. We need alerts for everything. We have alarms setup and get alerts through email or third-party integrations depending on what's happening – critical VMs, high CPU usage, security concerns."

Cons

"There are a number of plugins that New Relic makes. It would be nice to be able to instantly integrate that with APM."
"Real-user monitoring would be helpful as it would help me to really understand the client-side performance of the application."
"There are certain scenarios where I feel additional functionalities could enhance New Relic, such as gaining more data about calls."
"There is no proper management of roles and divisions; if I develop a dashboard for myself, everyone else has access to it, and you just add someone to the platform and he gets access to all the dashboards."
"Joining datasets. Currently, it’s only possible to pull data from a single event type."
"Email alert customization is limited; it cannot be tailored much, which makes the system more rigid than optimal."
"Some AIOps are missing in New Relic APS, and I would like to see more features in this area."
"The main reason we switched away from New Relic is that the cost is too high."
"Third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The new licensing model is great, as we pay for what we use (in computational units). However, the pricing is expensive compared to other tools."
"The detection piece of it brings us a big return on investment."
"We're paying for the New Relic APM license annually."
"I think it's overpriced for the technical support that we get. We spent over 1,00,000 USD a year."
"The solution is cheap, but prices can go up when users grow."
"The pricing is okay comparatively their competitors. The only concern was whether it should be purchased on demand or bring your own license, and which way passes some savings onto the end customers."
"I think the pricing is reasonable."
"It would be nice if we could buy it annually instead of monthly."
"For monitoring specifically, it's not that expensive. The licensing is yearly basis."
