Real-time alerts have reduced server outage impact and support fast incident response
In the dashboard, if they could show a little more metrics regarding the application and related things, that would be how New Relic could be improved. Currently, there are things showing from the server level and application level, but it can be improved. That is what I felt. Regarding user interface, I do not feel much concern, but for some kind of issues when we are trying to get support from the New Relic team, their SLA seems to be long. They are taking seven to ten working days for resolving some kind of scenario or issue. That is a bit difficult for us. If they could improve the customer support by reducing their SLA within three to five days, if they could remediate everything, that will be so much helpful. When it comes to the customer support part, I felt they need to be a little more improved on that part. The support overall is good, but they can improve. That is the reason I have given it eight out of ten.

Offers real-time alerting and dashboards are great for performance hubs of the database
It's primarily for CPU utilization and resource monitoring. Vulnerability scanning falls under OCI Cloud Guard, so it's related to security concerns. Some people might prefer using a third-party tool for more enhanced features. However, I think Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service could be improved to reduce the need for third-party connectivity. So overall, third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service. OCI needs more research and development to understand why clients choose third-party tools like Splunk or QRadar over internal monitoring solutions. There must be some areas where third-party tools are better. OCI could analyze this and improve its service.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This is the best tool for gaining insight into SaaS or cloud-based applications that we’ve seen."
"It gives us insight into several areas-- Where slowdowns are, Which of our customers is hitting us most, and If there’s an application issue on the database side, how long a query takes."
"The deep insights, which will give you the metrics (not a high level), so we can build out at the database level where the bottleneck is. This has been pretty helpful."
"Support for plug-ins (RMQ, Redis etc.) is a valuable feature."
"One of the most outstanding features of any APM tool is the anomaly detection part."
"We have a standard visibility process for any application that rolls out, and it gives us the ability to train our people and provide a more responsive application."
"The feature I found most valuable is being able to design my queries. It's easy to design a query."
"The technical support is quite good."
"Real-time alerting is a very important feature. We need alerts for everything. We have alarms setup and get alerts through email or third-party integrations depending on what's happening – critical VMs, high CPU usage, security concerns."

Cons

"The one thing I really wanted to see was to getting more granular with the data, which may be coming in Insights."
"The thing missing from these platforms is connectivity."
"I would like a feature where I can turn off alerting at a policy level. Thus, when a policy is inactive, I can shut down all of my alerts within the policy."
"There is a picture which goes to your browser and it monitors requests from other users. However, it's impossible to use now because the price is very high."
"I chose a rating of 8 out of 10 because the UI requires me to dig in and find the needed traces, and it can be more user-friendly."
"It helps prevent issues but does not cause losses. The error messages and deep insights may help us find the root cause and resolve the issue, but it could be a bit better."
"More configurability through the dashboard, for example, being able to ignore transactions without the need to update the config or code."
"The product has good documentation for Linux, however, their documentation for Windows is lacking substantially. It's something they need to develop."
"Third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is an expensive tool."
"We're paying for the New Relic APM license annually."
"The pricing and licensing are good if you have an account manager and a partner manager who are looking to help out."
"The monthly cost os $1000 per server per month, but it could be even more. We pay about $250 for the server, and then New Relic wants over $1000 to give us statistics on those servers."
"The price of New Relic could improve. It is expensive."
"Because of budget, we are not using the mobile app part of this tool."
"We deploy everything on AWS. Purchasing the product on AWS Marketplace made it easier for us."
"New Relic is either free with low retention and minimal functionalities, or expensive with full options and retention."
"For monitoring specifically, it's not that expensive. The licensing is yearly basis."
