Real-time alerts have reduced server outage impact and support fast incident response
In the dashboard, if they could show a little more metrics regarding the application and related things, that would be how New Relic could be improved. Currently, there are things showing from the server level and application level, but it can be improved. That is what I felt. Regarding user interface, I do not feel much concern, but for some kind of issues when we are trying to get support from the New Relic team, their SLA seems to be long. They are taking seven to ten working days for resolving some kind of scenario or issue. That is a bit difficult for us. If they could improve the customer support by reducing their SLA within three to five days, if they could remediate everything, that will be so much helpful. When it comes to the customer support part, I felt they need to be a little more improved on that part. The support overall is good, but they can improve. That is the reason I have given it eight out of ten.

Offers real-time alerting and dashboards are great for performance hubs of the database
It's primarily for CPU utilization and resource monitoring. Vulnerability scanning falls under OCI Cloud Guard, so it's related to security concerns. Some people might prefer using a third-party tool for more enhanced features. However, I think Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service could be improved to reduce the need for third-party connectivity. So overall, third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service. OCI needs more research and development to understand why clients choose third-party tools like Splunk or QRadar over internal monitoring solutions. There must be some areas where third-party tools are better. OCI could analyze this and improve its service.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The integration and configuration of New Relic is straightforward and easy."
"The service map feature is very useful."
"The solution's most valuable aspects are that it tracks java better and operates very efficiently."
"This is the best tool for gaining insight into SaaS or cloud-based applications that we’ve seen."
"We looked for a product that gives the data in a way that is easy to visualize, is reliable, and is simple."
"The most important thing is that it tells us where the latency in throughput and response time are."
"It doesn't require much investment or technical expertise to implement, and I would recommend it for SME."
"It has the ability to monitor random URLs not tied to the one pinger per application (though it costs extra)."
"Real-time alerting is a very important feature. We need alerts for everything. We have alarms setup and get alerts through email or third-party integrations depending on what's happening – critical VMs, high CPU usage, security concerns."

Cons

"There is no proper management of roles and divisions; if I develop a dashboard for myself, everyone else has access to it, and you just add someone to the platform and he gets access to all the dashboards."
"The browser isn't exactly reliable."
"For some kind of issues when we are trying to get support from the New Relic team, their SLA seems to be long."
"It doesn't give us rich process tracing, which is the only complaint I have."
"I think New Relic can be more simple to use because for beginners it can be more difficult to use, so I think New Relic can improve in that aspect."
"In the first stage, the area of development, infrastructure and communication portal."
"New Relic needs to improve is the user data schema."
"I'd like to see alerting based on custom insight queries."
"Third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I think the pricing is reasonable."
"New Relic is either free with low retention and minimal functionalities, or expensive with full options and retention."
"Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was easy. The product is easy to deploy and manage, which is why our company purchased through the AWS Marketplace."
"I recommend using the free version of New Relic. If you like the free version and understand its importance for your company, you can move to the trial. Then, you can migrate to the paid version."
"This is an expensive tool."
"If I remember it correctly, the pricing was based on the core, and the monthly subscription used to cost us $1,500 or $2,000. We had pre-prod and production services. Costing was different for pre-prod and production. For pre-prod, it was 40% less than the production service cost. It was a combined package."
"The monthly cost os $1000 per server per month, but it could be even more. We pay about $250 for the server, and then New Relic wants over $1000 to give us statistics on those servers."
"Pricing is better with New Relic APM than Dynatrace."
"For monitoring specifically, it's not that expensive. The licensing is yearly basis."
