Real-time alerts have reduced server outage impact and support fast incident response
In the dashboard, if they could show a little more metrics regarding the application and related things, that would be how New Relic could be improved. Currently, there are things showing from the server level and application level, but it can be improved. That is what I felt. Regarding user interface, I do not feel much concern, but for some kind of issues when we are trying to get support from the New Relic team, their SLA seems to be long. They are taking seven to ten working days for resolving some kind of scenario or issue. That is a bit difficult for us. If they could improve the customer support by reducing their SLA within three to five days, if they could remediate everything, that will be so much helpful. When it comes to the customer support part, I felt they need to be a little more improved on that part. The support overall is good, but they can improve. That is the reason I have given it eight out of ten.

Offers real-time alerting and dashboards are great for performance hubs of the database
It's primarily for CPU utilization and resource monitoring. Vulnerability scanning falls under OCI Cloud Guard, so it's related to security concerns. Some people might prefer using a third-party tool for more enhanced features. However, I think Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service could be improved to reduce the need for third-party connectivity. So overall, third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service. OCI needs more research and development to understand why clients choose third-party tools like Splunk or QRadar over internal monitoring solutions. There must be some areas where third-party tools are better. OCI could analyze this and improve its service.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"From operationally rich, to developer deep."
"Both developers and operations people can look at the same data, and that’s a great benefit."
"The alerting is by far the most valuable feature, closely followed by the way the platform correlates incidents across applications and components."
"The best feature of New Relic is its simple look and feel, making it easier to use than other tools."
"As soon as it monitors all our systems and is integrated with PagerDuty, the operations team just needs to wait for alerts on their cellphones to fix things."
"Their technical support is pretty good and responsive. We have a real good relationship with them."
"New Relic helped with the mean time to detection, the MTDD metric tracked for applications, where the detection capability enabled a reduction from around 20 to 30 minutes down to three minutes, which has been really helpful in terms of detecting issues as well as helping to triage and troubleshoot issues faster, creating a positive impact on the organization."
"Previously, without a monitoring solution, a developer could potentially spend a day working on a feature or a bug to try and resolve an issue, but now, with monitoring in place, we can understand if a customer is actually hitting this bug, how often they are hitting it, and how much frustration they are dealing with on a day-by-day basis, then reprioritize our tasks."
"Real-time alerting is a very important feature. We need alerts for everything. We have alarms setup and get alerts through email or third-party integrations depending on what's happening – critical VMs, high CPU usage, security concerns."

Cons

"New Relic is very slow, and the app is a bit frustrating to use, which is something that has been happening a lot in the past year. During the last six months, I have noticed that it has become extremely laggy."
"There is no proper management of roles and divisions; if I develop a dashboard for myself, everyone else has access to it, and you just add someone to the platform and he gets access to all the dashboards."
"It doesn't give us rich process tracing, which is the only complaint I have."
"Alerting based on custom insights queries. If I set a custom query to give me some value, I want to be able to set an alert for that."
"In terms of usability, I think the UI is acceptable, but it does not really guide you along with what you actually need."
"It would help customers if there were an on-premises version available."
"The product's initial setup phase is not straightforward to manage if you have no experience with installations, making it an area that can be improved."
"The solution only supports the cloud platform and not on-premises."
"Third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is cheap, but prices can go up when users grow."
"Cost is significant with a lot of extras."
"Pricing is better with New Relic APM than Dynatrace."
"The monthly cost os $1000 per server per month, but it could be even more. We pay about $250 for the server, and then New Relic wants over $1000 to give us statistics on those servers."
"The solution is less expensive than AppNeta."
"The price of New Relic could improve. It is expensive."
"The price of the solution could be less expensive. You have to pay a lot for each user. There is an additional cost for extra features."
"Because of budget, we are not using the mobile app part of this tool."
"For monitoring specifically, it's not that expensive. The licensing is yearly basis."
