Real-time alerts have reduced server outage impact and support fast incident response
In the dashboard, if they could show a little more metrics regarding the application and related things, that would be how New Relic could be improved. Currently, there are things showing from the server level and application level, but it can be improved. That is what I felt. Regarding user interface, I do not feel much concern, but for some kind of issues when we are trying to get support from the New Relic team, their SLA seems to be long. They are taking seven to ten working days for resolving some kind of scenario or issue. That is a bit difficult for us. If they could improve the customer support by reducing their SLA within three to five days, if they could remediate everything, that will be so much helpful. When it comes to the customer support part, I felt they need to be a little more improved on that part. The support overall is good, but they can improve. That is the reason I have given it eight out of ten.

Offers real-time alerting and dashboards are great for performance hubs of the database
It's primarily for CPU utilization and resource monitoring. Vulnerability scanning falls under OCI Cloud Guard, so it's related to security concerns. Some people might prefer using a third-party tool for more enhanced features. However, I think Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service could be improved to reduce the need for third-party connectivity. So overall, third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service. OCI needs more research and development to understand why clients choose third-party tools like Splunk or QRadar over internal monitoring solutions. There must be some areas where third-party tools are better. OCI could analyze this and improve its service.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Give it a try, install it, and use it. I don't have to manage the server and worry about the database, storage, and VMs being up and running, etc. It is always there."
"New Relic helped with the mean time to detection, the MTDD metric tracked for applications, where the detection capability enabled a reduction from around 20 to 30 minutes down to three minutes, which has been really helpful in terms of detecting issues as well as helping to triage and troubleshoot issues faster, creating a positive impact on the organization."
"The solution offers good documentation."
"New Relic is now the leader in efficiency improvement."
"New Relic is the best choice because the product has good dashboards, scalability, and environments."
"We have done the New Relic integration with Serverless AWS, which has helped us with monitoring, and keeping our monitoring from our on-premise part with the cloud part."
"Its greatest benefit comes from its ability to provide trending/marketing data."
"We have a standard visibility process for any application that rolls out, and it gives us the ability to train our people and provide a more responsive application."
"Real-time alerting is a very important feature. We need alerts for everything. We have alarms setup and get alerts through email or third-party integrations depending on what's happening – critical VMs, high CPU usage, security concerns."

Cons

"I would like if it could have predictive analysis. Today, we only have the option to configure thresholds."
"It could be faster, but they’re already working on making this."
"It is a serious tool and requires a lot of time invested in order to understand how it works."
"It helps prevent issues but does not cause losses. The error messages and deep insights may help us find the root cause and resolve the issue, but it could be a bit better."
"Alerts tend to show how an entire cluster is performing, and not only that a given node is having an issue."
"There is a picture which goes to your browser and it monitors requests from other users. However, it's impossible to use now because the price is very high."
"New Relic can be improved, particularly by enhancing the UI, which is currently a bit off."
"One of the things that our enterprise actually had a challenge with was the licensing structure for New Relic."
"Third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is okay comparatively their competitors. The only concern was whether it should be purchased on demand or bring your own license, and which way passes some savings onto the end customers."
"Cost is significant with a lot of extras."
"If it’s the right tool, it doesn’t matter what it costs because you’re going to get it back many-fold from your productivity."
"I rate the product price a five on a scale of one to ten, where one means cheap, and ten means very expensive."
"We spend somewhere around $5,000 to $6,000 per month with an annual recommitment of maybe $60,000. These are just ballpark figures."
"New Relic is either free with low retention and minimal functionalities, or expensive with full options and retention."
"The pricing model is a little confusing for beginners. They find it a little expensive, and if you are using it already, then that is not good."
"They gave us aggressive discounts when they were brought in for the first time, but they have also kept them for the year-on-year renewals, which has been absolutely fine."
"For monitoring specifically, it's not that expensive. The licensing is yearly basis."
