Real-time alerts have reduced server outage impact and support fast incident response
In the dashboard, if they could show a little more metrics regarding the application and related things, that would be how New Relic could be improved. Currently, there are things showing from the server level and application level, but it can be improved. That is what I felt. Regarding user interface, I do not feel much concern, but for some kind of issues when we are trying to get support from the New Relic team, their SLA seems to be long. They are taking seven to ten working days for resolving some kind of scenario or issue. That is a bit difficult for us. If they could improve the customer support by reducing their SLA within three to five days, if they could remediate everything, that will be so much helpful. When it comes to the customer support part, I felt they need to be a little more improved on that part. The support overall is good, but they can improve. That is the reason I have given it eight out of ten.

Offers real-time alerting and dashboards are great for performance hubs of the database
It's primarily for CPU utilization and resource monitoring. Vulnerability scanning falls under OCI Cloud Guard, so it's related to security concerns. Some people might prefer using a third-party tool for more enhanced features. However, I think Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service could be improved to reduce the need for third-party connectivity. So overall, third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service. OCI needs more research and development to understand why clients choose third-party tools like Splunk or QRadar over internal monitoring solutions. There must be some areas where third-party tools are better. OCI could analyze this and improve its service.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The scalability of New Relic APM is good; we have not had any issue with scalability when we use different types of loads, and it worked very well."
"The ability to do layered reporting quickly and in real-time on stats is the most valuable feature to us."
"New Relic's dashboard is nice, and it's reliable. It's also compatible with many services, especially Java and the Python ecosystem."
"It is easy to set up from scratch, as you don’t need resources."
"Given we have only one infrastructure guy and he can manage all of this, and a small team, everyone can use it all for different purposes."
"You don't have to go through a list of 500 servers."
"It's given us the ability for anyone to know how our customers experience our application."
"We have a standard visibility process for any application that rolls out, and it gives us the ability to train our people and provide a more responsive application."
"Real-time alerting is a very important feature. We need alerts for everything. We have alarms setup and get alerts through email or third-party integrations depending on what's happening – critical VMs, high CPU usage, security concerns."

Cons

"It could be faster, but they’re already working on making this."
"I would like to have storage monitoring. E.g., being able to monitor SANS, specifically protocols, like NFS and CIFS metrics."
"It is a serious tool and requires a lot of time invested in order to understand how it works."
"The pricing model. New Relic can be expensive for growing startups."
"More instruments with .NET and asynchronous calls, and New Relic says it’s on the way."
"Doesn't recognized some third party transaction traces."
"Currently, it is not the only solution we have for monitoring so there are things that it’s missing – for example what Datadog does for us."
"It gives you amazing statistics, but doesn’t give you enough information about what to do with the statistics."
"Third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service."

Pricing and Cost Advice
