The SOC center monitors, hunts, and notifies us of threats around the clock
I know they are working to resolve this issue, but Netsurion is currently unable to retrieve logs from S3 buckets. We use WP Engine for a lot of web hosting as well as AWS, and both of these platforms use S3 buckets. I would like Netsurion to be able to pull logs from Linux devices. We have some of that capability, and I believe they can do it. However, the way it works with Amazon is strange and glitchy. Therefore, working something out with Amazon would be great. Netsurion's SOC can be a bit too aggressive at times. We have asked them to adjust their playbook because I am tired of being notified about the same issue multiple times a day. I am aware of the issue, and it is not a cause for concern. Let's only take action on this issue if we see an actual problem.

Great for PCI compliance but issues with stability and large amounts of data
I mainly use this solution to meet PCI compliance The automation of compliance reports and the correlation of the log have been major improvements.  The most valuable feature is the predefined reports for PCI compliance. The correlation suite needs to be improved. I also think they need to…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"What I like most about Netsurion is the level of visibility and reporting."
"If I were to look at logs manually, there's no way I could do that. As an example, they are 48 million logs processed a day. There is no way I could look at all 48 million of those. So, it gives me a good structure to be able to look at the different incidents which are created and do different searches."
"EventTracker is exactly that; it's giving me all of the features and functions that we need to do our jobs, and at a price point that's incredibly attractive."
"Netsurion was easy to deploy. I have worked with other systems that were a little less complex, but they weren't quite as easy to deploy."
"Expediting incident response is really great."
"Their SOC team manages vulnerability management and IOC reviews. They stop bad processes when they happen. The best thing is their weekly reviews of what has been going on in the infrastructure as well as the things that they see and what we should look out for."
"The most valuable feature is that we get the events: the alerts about disk space and the security reports that we get once a day, including user lockouts and the like."
"The managed service is great value which saves you a full-time employee on your staff by being able to outsource it to EventTracker to review all the logs and cull through the data to make recommendations and identify threats, then how to remediate them."
"Customer Service: The service we've seen from NNT to date has been extraordinarily good."
"The most valuable feature is the predefined reports for PCI compliance."
"The FIM features in the Change Tracker and the Log Tracker are the most valuable."
"This is a very easy-to-use interface with a quick ramp-up time."
"The Change Tracker tool is very good and will reduce your overall workload."
"If you want to deploy a SIEM and you want it to be simple, and not deal with much maintenance or help from the OEM, then I would say that NNT is the one."
"File integrity monitoring is a very important function."

Cons

"Probably the biggest thing is just: Can I search for this and what's the best way to do it? If I'm looking for two events versus a singular event, I just throw it back at them."
"The deployment of the agents could be a bit easier. We always seem to have a bit of a challenge with that. A lot of times the agents either don't deploy or they quit responding, then we have to go and redeploy them."
"The upfront costs have increased, and we have been locked into this contract."
"There are some issues with searches taking a long period of time, but they assured me that they have implemented a new search function that's available in version 9, but which requires a solid-state hard drive... Depending on how many logs you have it could take a long time to return the results if you're looking back prior to the last 30 days."
"I'd like to see improvement in the ease of generating reports. It seems fairly cumbersome whenever you decide to start tracking new categories of events."
"Netsurion's threat detection and response aren't quite mature. I would expect a little more."
"They have their programs and tools that you have to put into your own environment. We basically ingest all the log data and then push it out to them. I wish it was a little bit different than that where we just push directly towards them. I do not know if that is a function that they thought would be better in terms of security, but I wish that instead of doing that, it should go from the device to them and not from the device to another system and then out to them. There seem to be some drawbacks to doing that."
"It would be great if they had a client for phones by which they could push a notification to us, as opposed to via email."
"For the NNT Log Tracker and Change Tracker, they have to make their knowledge base available online because there is very little information available on the internet."
"The correlation suite needs to be improved."
"I would like to see the integration of AI technology, so rather than manually monitoring the logs, the tool will understand it and take care of it."
"It is able to identify the vulnerability, however, they need an option to auto-mitigate."
"Only one minor deployment issue came up and it was resolved quickly. No other areas of improvement come to mind yet."
"It is able to identify the vulnerability, however, they need an option to auto-mitigate."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The upfront costs have increased, and we have been locked into this contract. The cost of changing over from it is way too high."
"I don't know if the pricing is by the seat but we're paying about $20,000 to 25,000 a year. On top of that, we pay for the managed support services. That runs us about another $35,000 or $40,000 a year."
"Our budget follows the calendar year. We just started a new budget year at the beginning of the month. We did budget for an increase in our threat management system selection. Therefore, we have the budget to implement and accommodate a threat management system change, including an increase for the quoted actions that we received to improve EventTracker. We are just waiting on our council to approve that budget, which might not be for a little while. Hopefully, when they do, we will be able to jump on doing something."
"We have seen time and cost savings. It prevents us from having to hire specialized people for this type of work. We would need to hire six staff members to accommodate the same service."
"The pricing and licensing seem very reasonable. The managed service part of it feels like it gives me the equivalent of a full-time engineer for a lot less money. So, I feel it's a good value."
"The solution is fairly expensive, but in my experience, all of the SIEM applications that I've evaluated or looked at cost about the same."
"EventTracker's subscription-based model is interesting as far as yearly license type stuff. It's nice because you know what it's going to be next year. We haven't really looked at any other solutions. The pricing at the time compared to the other solutions was a lot less. A couple of years ago, we actually looked at Splunk. The amount in Splunk's licensing model is based on 20 gigs a day, or something like that. Based on our number of logs and stuff that we were already generating, the costs would be substantially more for the amount of logs that we would be getting."
"You are paying for different levels, especially as far as the monitoring goes and how often you review it with the team. The other factor that figures in is how many nodes are on your network, such as clients, network equipment, servers, etc. There are some additional pieces on top of that, but it's laid out pretty simply, as far as how much you're going to pay for a node."
"NNT's pricing is moderate - I would rate their pricing two-and-a-half out of ten."
"We have selected a perpetual license along with support."
"Consider both their on-premises solution and their hosted solution. Both are reasonably priced."
