Visual collaboration has improved remote workflows and supports faster shared decisions
The best features Lucidchart offers are that it diagrams processes very well. It allows for project management to help with client timelines. It is also easy to use and create diagrams, especially mermaid diagrams. Collaborating is easy. Out of all those features, collaboration stands out to me the most because it is easy to share with team members to do joint design work. Lucidchart has positively impacted my organization by improving productivity and collaboration. In terms of specifics, collaboration helps us come to conclusions. I notice better throughput as it is easy to use. Improved productivity allows us to express ourselves more quickly.

Efficient documentation generation through organized model structure with a good price-performance ratio
Whenever I begin a new project with Sparx, I have to spend time training people on how to use it since it is not straightforward. Although it's a powerful product with plenty of features, it's not easy for even experienced users to find their way without guidance. This is not the most user-friendly solution.

Created detailed rack and network diagrams that streamline documentation and collaboration
For creating diagrams, I definitely use Visio for HLD, LLD, and traffic flow diagrams. Apart from Visio, I use Jira only if the customer specifically requests it; otherwise, I do not use an in-house version of Jira in my organization. One of the good features of using the Microsoft umbrella product is that if I create a big diagram and then work on the HLD or LLD in Word, I can select everything from Visio and paste it as an image without needing to resize it, which streamlines the process of creating documentation for customers. The main benefits Visio provides me include simplifying processes, saving time on manual work with diagram creation, and delivering a clean architecture, whether it is network architecture or application flow. I have created diagrams for AWS, Azure, GCP, and on-premises data centers, including rack elevation diagrams and organization charts. Modifications can be made easily and reflected immediately, and I can create PNG images to share with the executive team.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Lucidchart is very visual in nature, and it is something that we do use extensively for stakeholder mapping, for example. If you want to build graphs for things like who the decision-makers are in a particular organization, Lucidchart can be used for that."
"I will definitely recommend this solution to others."
"With the clean format and the straightforward boxes and arrows and everything like that, it makes it so you don't have to dig and you don't have to spend personal time flipping through pages, because everything is right there and super easy to read and super understandable."
"Documenting complicated workflows and technology integrations so that we can go back to it has also been a benefit. And without having to dig into a lot of technical, the codes, the documents, I can simply understand on a high level what's happening."
"We are using Lucidchart a lot for documenting things, such as processes, systems, new teams, etc., and its ability to document processes is great, with major pluses being the sheer number of templates and the flexibility in the types of things that you can document, which lets us structure content in whatever format we want and simply modify templates for our purposes instead of creating them from scratch."
"The interface is easy for a layperson to use and adapt to."
"The flow chart is most valuable. It is a very user-friendly and simple-to-use product. Quite quickly, I was able to understand how to use it and just get on with my process flow."
"Some of the valuable features are drag and drop and connection through arrows, which makes work go by a lot faster without having to create each shape from scratch."
"For the most part, we find that it is remarkable how inexpensive it is."
"Large variety of profiles and frameworks available out-of-the-box without the need for customization, and not locked into one way of doing architecture."
"From the island of non managed analysis and design information to shared repositories with templates, it has helped us with real MDA and code generation directly into Visual Studio."
"The solution allows us to quickly present designs and concepts to customers and get their feedback, thereby moving the project forward step by step."
"The TOGAF ADM model is most valuable, and it is also very cheap as compared to other options in the market."
"The advantages of Enterprise are that it's cheaper and much more practical than MagicDraw."
"The most valuable feature is the integrated data model, so if I change the name of an item, all models using that object are automatically updated."
"Its traversability is most valuable; I can use ArchiMate, and I can create a UML model, and BPMN for business processes, build multiple traversable models, segment a huge organization into separate models for business technology or internal resource management, and then very easily create documentation from templates in whatever format is needed, which is a very powerful feature."
"The thing I like most about Visio is the stencils, and as the product has matured over time, it comes with more stencils and objects that you can just pick out of the menu and go with."
"The fact that it's on-premises allows you to get fantastic speed; it's got a faster response rate, it doesn't lag, and it doesn't have any latency when you're working on it."
"It is very easy for people to start using this tool, and we can import Visio templates that are already published by vendors such as Azure without any issue."
"Visio makes it easier than with other tools to do such tasks as changing things or coming up with one's own visual style for presentation purposes."
"It is a useful tool to map data flows, network objects, and computer science technology and show to clients. It does what I need it to do. It's a tool I've used the longest, so I know it the best, and that's probably the claim to fame."
"A major benefit of Visio is its user-friendliness. Upon opening the program, you have access to a variety of pre-made templates, saving you time and effort. All you need to do is input your data into the template and you're ready to proceed with your project."
"The fact that it's on-premises allows you to get fantastic speed. It's got a faster response rate, it doesn't lag, and it doesn't have any latency when you're working on it."
"The solution is easy to scale."

Cons

"I'd prefer this software to be an operating system, not a web tool, as I'd switch to LucidOS, if it existed, in seconds."
"I've had an issue is when you create, let's say, a rectangle box. You can write some text in it and give it a name, and, depending on how you shape the size of the box, the text will rearrange itself to fit."
"I'm not sure if this feature is already there, but it would be good if we can import a cloud database in the web version."
"There is a basic function that I struggle with, in the interface, which is having to switch between the editing and navigation modes. A lot of clicks are required when switching between edit and navigation modes and I think that many could potentially be avoided by handling the tasks at the same time."
"I just felt that I am wasting time with those questions and just wanted them to stop asking me these questions and get into charting."
"I would like to have more text boxes to write more comments so I can write a small note below a picture. I would like some flexibility."
"Another thing that somewhat irritated me is the fact that there is a paste function in the menu, but when you right-click and select paste, it tells you that you can't use paste."
"The layering is something that can be improved because sometimes, it is confusing for me when I'm trying to get to the layer that I want to edit."
"It can be improved in the area of shared documentation. The idea is that the architecture tool can call back to an enterprise asset, pull that information, and link that as a sub-artifact."
"Its side effect is the complexity of getting it all together in this one tool."
"It has not improved our organization mainly due to the poor diagramming capabilities within the product, which are outdated and look like Visual Studio 2005."
"Its best features are not intuitive or easy to learn. Most companies I have worked with, when I see what they are doing with it , are not using more than 5% of what they could and should be doing with it."
"It could be more user-friendly. The tools could be more simple to use. It's a very complex solution. Because I am a business analyst, I use these tools to manage requirements, and I make models in UML, BPMN, and ArchiMate, and it's complex. In the next release, I would like to see more integrations."
"The database management area was not usable."
"Not visually appealing."
"Whenever I begin a new project with Sparx, I have to spend time training people on how to use it since it is not straightforward."
"I think that it feels a bit outside with respect to the icons that are available."
"Some of the improvements that have been made in Visio have not been beneficial, at least to me, personally. Too many things have been added to it, and it makes it kind of clunky sometimes."
"Visio should implement more complex tools or graphics to facilitate processing and use flexible templates. The tools supplied or provided are very basic, and there are not enough tools for design."
"It should natively enable importing diagrams or reference architectures from any of the vendors whose solutions are used by the customer or proposed by solution providers such as DXC"
"For professional use layout configuration is sometimes a little difficult to use."
"The visual icons and shapes for different vendors like Cisco network could be improved. Often, I have to contact vendors to get specific icons to use in Visio diagrams, which makes the process cumbersome."
"The solution could improve by making it more modern."
"It's not the easiest software to use. It's not user-friendly out-of-the-box."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing and licensing are fine. It has a lot of features that I prefer over some of the other programs, which is good. Being that it is web-based, I feel that it is acceptable that it's on a monthly pay basis. However, I think I pay on an annual basis, which is fine with me."
"Pricing-wise, it is pretty fair. I don't really know what group pricing looks like, but right now, I pay $10 a month for my Lucid subscription. One thing I would say is that I do worry about my bosses being okay with paying $10 a month for every single employee because we would have around 20 people. It makes me a little nervous about whether they are going to pay $200 a month for people to be able to use this software. At the same time, from where I'm sitting, it's totally worth it. We save a thousand dollars from using this software. It's still a no-brainer."
"I pay $95 a year for it. It seems like a reasonable price."
"The price of this product is a little bit high. It is probably 20% higher than what I expected to pay for such a solution."
"I have only used the trial version and have not yet paid for it, or explored the pricing options."
"The licensing is pretty cost-effective but I haven't considered it on an enterprise level."
"The pricing is very competitive. It is more cost-effective than some competing products, such as Visio."
"At €167 per user per year, the pricing is slightly higher than Visio, but it's worth it."
"The solution is quite expensive."
"The license for Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect is paid yearly, but I don't handle that area. It's good for its price, so I'm rating it a five out of five, but I'm not using it much. I also don't have information regarding additional costs apart from the standard licensing fees."
"The Corporate Edition, or one of the bundles, is the way to go."
"It's affordable. The only additional cost that we haven't yet figured out is the floating license. If you buy a floating license, you have to have a license management server, which comes at an additional cost that's not discussed. So, we haven't yet used the floating license. That’s because I haven't had a chance to figure that out."
"The licence has a costly upfront fee which gets you access. You have to pay an annual maintenance fee, which is less."
"Pricing and licensing is very attractive, simple, and straightforward."
"We had a yearly license."
"The license I use is on-premise. We haven't gone to the cloud where we have to pay monthly or something like that. Sparx is cheaper than most similar tools."
"Visio is included with our Microsoft enterprise license."
"The price could be more flexible for infrequent users. If it's your main utility that you use daily, then it's a good price."
"Our license for Visio is including with the Office 365 subscription."
"We have about 10 to 15 people with Visio licenses in my company, but I wasn't involved in the direct negotiation of the prices since this was taken care of by my administrative office."
"I know you can pick it up in retail for under a thousand per person. You can also pick it up for cheaper than that. Microsoft has about 7,000 licensing models, and you get certain percentages off specific licensing. If you're a partner, you get specific numbers of licenses with the partnership price."
"I rate the price of Visio a six out of ten."
"Cloud-based tools are always cheaper since they are subscription-based. I use the on-premises version of Visio hence the price is quite expensive. However, I believe that the cloud version of Visio may not be as expensive as the on-premises version."
"The licensing process is actually a breeze. Simply buy the license and download it from Microsoft, enter the license key in Visio to activate the software, and you're done."
