AI features and automation save time and enhance test quality
Katalon Test Ops has AI features that speed up the process by automating tasks that would otherwise be done manually. It can integrate with different applications and is user-friendly. One notable AI feature is the self-healing capability, which automatically corrects failed scripts, solving problems in less than five minutes and improving the quality of code.

Has supported centralized test case management but needs better reporting and integration features
One good feature of Tricentis qTest was that users can directly upload test cases in the tool itself. Unlike ALM, where we had a plugin in Excel and it used to hang very much, this was a really cool feature where users can upload test cases directly into the tool. I have used Tricentis qTest's integration with Jira, but that's why we migrated to Octane tool. There were some hiccups, such as when we updated anything in Tricentis qTest, it wasn't really reflecting in our release container or release manager. I have utilized the customizable dashboards with Tricentis qTest, though they weren't very interactive. I have seen measurable benefits with Tricentis qTest in terms of time-saving and resource-saving. It's definitely time-saving, and also in terms of space, users can have everything centralized instead of having it all in Excel locally, which can be maintained in the repository of Tricentis qTest.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Katalon Test Ops has AI features that speed up the process by automating tasks that would otherwise be done manually."
"It's more user-friendly as a solution."
"I noticed that only the enterprise version has integration with GitHub."
"The solution works very well for test management and it also automates a lot of the testing functions so that you don't have to manage them in Excel spreadsheets."
"We have also seen a reduction in critical defects, by half now, over the last three months, and overall, the solution has increased testing efficiency by at least 50 percent."
"UI and UX are pretty easy to understand without much of a problem."
"Being able to log into Defects, go right into JIRA, add that defect to the user story, right there at that point, means we connect all of that. That is functionality we haven't had in the past. As a communication hub, it works really well. It's pretty much a closed loop; it's all contained right there. There's no delay. You're getting from the defect to the system to JIRA to the developer."
"The JIRA integration is really important to us because it allows our business analysts to see test results inside the JIRA ticket and that we have met the definition of "done," and have made sure we tested to the requirements of the story."
"All the features we have used are pretty impressive and good."
"The integration with Selenium and other tools is one of the valuable features. Importing of test cases is also good."
"What I found most valuable in Tricentis qTest is that it doesn't require installation. You use it through the URL. It also has an excellent reporting feature."

Cons

"The execution module of Katalon Test Ops may need some improvement, especially when running a high volume of test scripts."
"There are stability troubles. My area does not have a good connection. That's why sometimes I face issues."
"The free version is limited."
"You can add what I believe are called suites and modules. I opened a ticket on this as to what's the difference. And it seems there's very little difference. In some places, the documentation says there's no difference. You just use them to organize how you want. But they're not quite the same because there are some options you can do under one and not the other. That gets confusing. But since they are very close to the same, people use them differently and that creates a lack of consistency."
"The installation of the software could be streamlined. We pay for the on-premise support and they help us a lot, but the installation is something which is very command-line oriented."
"The support for Tricentis qTest has room for improvement. The response could be better."
"There is some room for improving the documentation for the APIs that they expose."
"As an admin, I'm unable to delete users. I'm only able to make a user inactive."
"Tricentis qTest's technical support team needs to improve its ability to respond to queries from users."
"The Insights reporting engine has a good test-metrics tracking dashboard. The overall intent is good... But the execution is a little bit limited... the results are not consistent. The basic premise and functionality work fine... It is a little clunky with some of the advanced metrics. Some of the colorings are a little unique."
"I really can't stand the Defects module. It's not easy to use."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"We signed for a year and I believe we paid $24,000 for Flood, Manager, and the qTest Insights. We paid an extra for $4,000 for the migration support."
"For me, pricing for Tricentis qTest is moderate, so that's a five out of ten. It's more affordable than my company's previous solution, which was Micro Focus ALM."
"For the 35 concurrent licenses, we pay something like $35,000 a year."
"It's quite a few times more costly than other tools on the market."
"Our license price point is somewhere between $1,000 and $2,000 a year."
"Based on whatever I heard, I can say that Tricentis qTest is a little costlier than other test management tools, like Jira, Zephyr, or Xray."
"We're paying a little over $1,000 for a concurrent license."
"The price I was quoted is just under $60,000 for 30 licenses, annually, and that's with a 26.5 percent discount."
