Supports web and mobile applications, very scalable, very stable, and wonderful support
There are some features that Micro Focus LoadRunner provides, but they are not available in IBM Rational Performance Tester. They should include such features. It can also have more reports similar to what HP provides. It might also need some improvement in terms of the tools and support for other technology areas. Certain technologies are not supported by every tool. They need to support all sorts of technologies and platforms on which web applications and mobile applications are built. They need complete support for all sorts of technologies.

Ensures team collaboration with strong version control but could improve testing capabilities
Version control is the most basic feature in TFS. It has been there since the beginning. We use it primarily for that purpose. Basically ensuring that the code is not overwritten by other team members and maintaining the sanctity of the code. Bringing order to a disparate team which is virtual at different locations is very important, and TFS provides that control. Once you update a code, nobody can modify it until you are done working on it and check in. It is a great product that revolutionized the way teams work together on Microsoft pieces of code. The versioning part has unique features and capabilities which are unmatched with other products out there.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's definitely helped in scaling the performance of our application."
"Less coding is needed, it is easy to understand, and it is easy to integrate with existing systems so I can test more than one performance test type, including load testing, stress testing, and scalability testing."
"It's one of the most cost-effective products on the market."
"Real time view and its inbuilt root cause analysis tools is something which I like the most."
"With each new version, the tool gets better and better features."
"It has improved our visibility of reporting and simplifying performance testing for larger projects/programs."
"Technical support is very good. I'm very satisfied with the assistance we've received so far."
"ROI is big because we do not need vendors to assist some with performance testing."
"TFS has allowed our development team to function better as a group, by keeping code organized, and making it easier to prevent people from stepping on each other's code."
"Users get alerted so they know when there's work required which makes the solution quite efficient."
"The tool's installation is straightforward."
"It's a good product and it's fulfilled all that I want it to do."
"It's user friendly."
"The API for managing TFS programmatically is very powerful, you can listen on work items changes by TFS events."
"I feel that the test plan and test tools are more manageable in TFS."
"The interface is good with TFS."

Cons

"Sometimes new versions have bugs."
"I’d like to see a tighter integration with Rational Quality Manager and the Jazz platform."
"The installation and tool setup can take some time, since this involves several components."
"Reporting needs improvement to provide more customization options in the performance test analyst to build custom reports."
"As intuitive as a product can be, its use could still benefit from a decent set of manuals or guides."
"It is complex for a novice."
"User friendliness can be better, as this is one area where it lacks."
"Since it is Java-based, it is expected to be a resource eater on Windows."
"Since it is Microsoft, it is technology agnostic, thus it does not really fit into various different technologies in the organization."
"It has been really dated. When you start to work more in an agile environment, it is not really that flexible."
"Technical support is a challenge. It is a pain to get anything from Microsoft done."
"The interface needs work. As it is, it takes a few weeks to get new team members used to using it."
"Agile metrics/reporting (if you compare it to JIRA's functionality), as well as more/better customizable widgets to create richer dashboards."
"The usability of TFS is not that great. Integration from an agile perspective could be improved. Jira is far better in this regard."
"Microsoft should discontinue the use of SharePoint as I don’t really see any value add to TFS, document management features can be included in TFS web portal itself, if required!"
"Build definition management - there needs to be change control for build definitions"

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is much cheaper than Micro Focus LoadRunner. We need perpetual licenses. Support is included in the first sale. After that, you need to renew support every year."
"I am not in a position to comment on the licensing terms, as we are talking about an enterprise arrangement."
"I believe we pay on a yearly basis. I don't know the current costs of them. We outsource all that to a third party. Each of the developers gets a Microsoft Visual Studio Azure DevOps license, which gives them access to the TFS server as well. We probably pay on average about 1,800 Canadian Dollars a year for every developer, but that covers a lot more than just TFS."
"We pay for the license yearly."
"I wouldn't say that this tool is cheap or expensive but in the middle."
"We pay subscription fees on a yearly basis and the price is reasonable."
"Microsoft products are always expensive. Obviously, they are quality products, but it would be helpful if there was a reduction in price. But compared to other vendors, I think the cost is high."
"It's just as expensive as HPE ALM, without many of the features, best used for development tool only to avoid higher costs."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
