Supports web and mobile applications, very scalable, very stable, and wonderful support
There are some features that Micro Focus LoadRunner provides, but they are not available in IBM Rational Performance Tester. They should include such features. It can also have more reports similar to what HP provides. It might also need some improvement in terms of the tools and support for other technology areas. Certain technologies are not supported by every tool. They need to support all sorts of technologies and platforms on which web applications and mobile applications are built. They need complete support for all sorts of technologies.

Manages multiple releases seamlessly
We have done some work with companies, probably four or five years ago and found the ability to manage multiple releases simultaneously as a main advantage, especially in complex programs with multiple concurrent releases. Running automated tests against back-level versions in certain environments is possible, and newer versions can be tested as well. It creates constant visibility into the test process, showing the status, bugs, and automated test results. It is a solid product in large corporations in Denmark, ensuring everyone knows where the process stands. There is a good understanding of what is critical, allowing prioritization of test cases.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Less coding is needed, it is easy to understand, and it is easy to integrate with existing systems so I can test more than one performance test type, including load testing, stress testing, and scalability testing."
"This tool is very scalable, and for large scale tests, i.e., 5000 virtual users and up, it performs very well."
"Once you are used to this tool, it is user friendly and provides very good analysis for web applications."
"It's definitely helped in scaling the performance of our application."
"ROI is big because we do not need vendors to assist some with performance testing."
"Customization and extensions made in Java is valuable because this can help you set elements to improve your results."
"It has improved our visibility of reporting and simplifying performance testing for larger projects/programs."
"Technical support is very good. I'm very satisfied with the assistance we've received so far."
"It's user friendly, scalable, and very stable and strong. It's cooperative, meaning that I can assess the test to check it and follow the flow of defects, and the developers and the business can use this tool to follow the test process."
"The most valuable feature is definitely its scalability, as it covers the life cycle end-to-end, from requirements to test execution and defect management."
"Customer service is good, as they respond on time to inquiries and requests, and the technical guys at HPE are knowledgeable on the solutions provided."
"None that I can think of from my experience, MicroFocus COBOL does everything we need it to do."
"Test management for multiple products, risk-based testing, requirements mapping, and reporting."
"The application itself tends to be very stable, but when switching to an open-source website, that's where the issues are."
"It is still the best QA tool on the market that integrates with most of other tools we use."
"The ability to show end-to-end tractability between requirements, tests, defects, and also reporting."

Cons

"There are some features that Micro Focus LoadRunner provides, but they are not available in IBM Rational Performance Tester."
"User friendliness can be better, as this is one area where it lacks."
"As intuitive as a product can be, its use could still benefit from a decent set of manuals or guides."
"It is complex for a novice."

"The installation and tool setup can take some time, since this involves several components."
"Installation and configuration processes, and support from IBM all need to be improved."
"It was complex."
"Is not very user-friendly."
"It is very pricey. To be fair, it is geared for enterprise use."
"The previous version of ALM had a greater functionality regarding test cases; now in ALM Octane we have only manual testing and integration with other tools."
"It is nice, but it does have some weaknesses. It's a bit hard to go back and change the requirement tool after setup."
"The reporting feature could be improved. It would be better if they simplified some things."
"The main barriers of entry are cost and implementation, especially if an enterprise implementation is the best solution"
"The integration could be improved because with Agile technology you are working more quickly than with a top-down methodology."
"The QA needs improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is much cheaper than Micro Focus LoadRunner. We need perpetual licenses. Support is included in the first sale. After that, you need to renew support every year."
"Depending on the volume, the annual maintenance costs vary on a percentage but it's around $300 a year per license for maintenance. It's at 18% of the total cost of the license."
"The solution was expensive for us."
"ALM Quality Center is a little bit costly."
"The pricing is expensive nowadays."
"It is an expensive tool. I think one needs to pay 10,000 USD towards the perpetual licensing model."
"HPE has one of the most rigid, inflexible, and super expensive license models."
"I feel that the licenses are expensive. "
"It allows us to keep our costs low. I do not want to pay beyond a certain point for this solution."
