Gaining seamless monitoring and customization capabilities
One of the best features of HPE OneView is that you get a complete architecture with a single click. The analytics and monitoring tools in HPE OneView are superior to other network monitoring platforms such as Nagios. The features include multiple modules that allow you to create and write your own scripts based on your requirements for different servers such as database servers or tapping roaming servers. There is more feasibility when using HP Service Manager because, unlike other tools with predefined standards for script writing, we have the option for customization as per our choice, and dashboard reports can be customized.

The setup is straightforward, but the satellite service installation file could be separated from the server one.
* The status overview page provides a state of computers monitored and provides quickly what users need to focus on * The satellite service installed on remote computers is an easy way to add clients, plus it's easy to deploy and to configure * The licence is perpetual and not linked to one computer, so it's possible to remove a licence from one computer and use it on another with no extra cost

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It enables you to view the entire infrastructure, and if you have blades, storage, or any HPE environment, it enables you to manage it in a single pane, and it is easy to manage."
"The remote support automatically logs service calls and support cases with HPE, which is really good."
"We lose less time managing the machines."
"The improvement was basically to be more efficient and have a lot of productivity, as we are more developed to creation rather than just solving problems."
"OneView provides a single console, which is manageable without physical access."
"It catches physical issues with the servers and will fix them, if possible, and, if not, alert us before they become a problem."
"The initial setup is easy."
"If you have HPE compute in place today, you should definitely look at using OneView."
"The satellite service installed on remote computers is an easy way to add clients, plus it's easy to deploy and to configure the licence is perpetual and not linked to one computer, so it's possible to remove a licence from one computer and use it on another with no extra cost"
"The possibility to develop your own VB scripts."

Cons

"I know we tend to have issues with our server profiles. When we're changing server profiles and applying them we run into some red flags occasionally."
"I had some minor difficulties with upgrading, but the solution still works fine."
"I'd like to see more integration across Hypervisor and 3PAR storage and other storage products."
"I hate to say, not a lot. It's encouraging to see a couple of features in version 4 that we think ought to have been there from the start."
"Use it, but do not think it is going into the clouds, because it is not. There is room for improvement."
"We have a version 3 and a version 1.2, but the upgrade process from the 1.2 to the 3 is kind of an issue."
"It needs more reporting capabilities."
"I found the technical support for the solution to be slow."
"The satellite service installation file could be separated from the server one. It would reduce the size of the file, and reduce the time to deploy on weak connections."
"Basic monitoring on Unix was working really well but it didn't really help under machines in Windows Domain Controller."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I feel the product's price falls a bit on the higher side."
"When it comes to the government, money is never an issue, so it was excellent in terms of the HPE OneView licensing cost. Hitachi was cheaper, but I'd rate HPE OneView cost-wise as eight out of ten."
"Synergy does not require iLO licenses but servers and enclosures must be purchased."
"This license cost for OneView was $3,000 USD."
"Use it. It is free."
"I think that the price of OneView is $500 USD per server, which is a little high."
"HPE could lower the price."
"HPE had some other solutions, but they were actually quite expensive to buy. So, when OneView came along, it was kind of reasonable in terms of price for licenses, etc."
