Helps to run simulations and create prototypes which reduces the costs
HPC's neutral configuration is not difficult. The tool's deployment depends on your understanding of its architecture and use cases. I rate it a three out of five. A regular cluster will take two weeks to set up. OEMs helped us with the physical hardware installation. Once the cluster was running, our team configured the software and networks.

Infrastructure efficiency has improved significantly with quick server provisioning, though physical to virtual migrations need a streamlined in-house tool
From my experience with Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI), there is one area that needs improvement. When moving a critical infrastructure from a physical machine to Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI), we currently have to use a third-party tool to convert the physical machine to a VM. We have to use VMware converter to perform this conversion before moving it to Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI). I would suggest that Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) should develop their own P2V (physical to VM) tools instead of requiring users to rely on third-party solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"HPC speeds up delivery time and reduces costs. It comes with the capability and flexibility to understand how engineering products work. You can understand the outcome without spending time and money."
"Our customers can publish scientific reports in prestigious magazines. HPC offers strong computing capabilities."
"Hyper-convergence makes the whole datacenter simpler; I don’t need to manage servers, SAN, and storage as I used to, but instead manage everything from one simple and complete dashboard."
"Customer service is awesome. I would rate it ten out of ten."
"The machines provisioning times have reduced drastically."
"Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure has a simple, user-friendly GUI, and I also like the remote recovery capabilities. It provides a single platform for managing databases."
"Nutanix Acropolis AOS is flexible and has helped people to work from home during the pandemic."
"The console and managing are user-friendly."
"It is all-in-one, the compute processing, storage, and network altogether make it convenient, and we don't have to have different modules for expansion."
"Nutanix has the best virtual desktop infrastructure."

Cons

"There was a buzz around the integration of quantum computing and HPC. However, I don't see a real-life use case for it."
"The solution is expensive."
"As Nutanix Acropolis AOS is on the expensive side, one of its areas for improvement is the price. It would also be better if it can be integrated with other cloud providers, because currently, it's only for private cloud deployment."
"The biggest thing that I've seen has been the backup and recovery which has been challenging for them over the past couple of years."
"It is a CentOS-based operating system, but CentOS releases security patches almost every week or every other week. However, Nutanix releases their upgrade at three or four month intervals. According to my organization's SLA, if a critical patch is released during that time, then I need to implement the patches within 30 days. If it is a standard patch, then I need to patch it within 60 days. Since that is my SLA, I cannot meet my SLA for security because Nutanix will not release the upgrade within these 30 days. Between the critical patch release and the Nutanix release, my customers say they are vulnerable and I am accepting the risk while the SLA is breached."
"When we have issues with the solution, they tend to be around networking."
"This product would be improved if it included a hybrid cloud solution."
"It would be fantastic if there was a built-in layer, in Nutanix, that acted like a cloud interface. So far, we need to integrate a cloud interface on top of Nutanix for billing the usage for specific customers' domains. It would be great if a cloud gateway was built-in, inside Nutanix."
"Performance was not bad, but it could be better."
"I would like to see a fuller integration with the public cloud. It would help the user enter the hybrid cloud infrastructure."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The software only licensing model is priced normally, but the licensing model that comes with hardware is priced very high. You can choose to pay the license yearly, or you can pay every three years, or every five years."
"It is less expensive than the VMware alternative."
"I don't feel that I am receiving the performance which I am paying for."
"Licensing depends on the features needed."
"If a customer has been using VMware, the difference in pricing is lower. However, if they are looking to use the VMware, the price can be much higher depending on the license."
"Cost-wise, it is very good. It is like the hypervisor cost is not there. We only need to pay for the system and AOS licenses."
"The cost of Nutanix Acropolis AOS is reasonable."
"Work close with your InfraTeam and discuss with Nutanix the best way to achieve sizing and price that are right for you."
