Centralized endpoint security has improved and supports hybrid work and BYOD policies
Regarding what I dislike about Microsoft Intune and its downsides, I would say that more Mac controls are needed because we have limited Mac and Linux control. When comparing controls and policies between Windows, Mac, and Linux, Windows has almost everything you can think of, while Mac and Linux have limited types of control. You cannot implement certain things on Mac and Linux that you can on Windows. The limited controls are a major issue. Additionally, if Microsoft could find a way to embed servers into Microsoft Intune, that would be beneficial. Microsoft Intune is not really designed for servers or Windows servers. It is more tailored towards Windows 11 and Windows 10 operating systems. Windows servers are not fully supported. Enterprise organizations usually have both servers and endpoints, which are users' workstations. For servers, most people look for other solutions such as SCCM, which is Configuration Manager. However, SCCM is what Microsoft Intune is trying to replace. Both SCCM and Microsoft Intune belong to Microsoft. Microsoft is trying to transition organizations into Microsoft Intune, the native cloud solution. However, because this update is still in process, servers are not fully compatible with Microsoft Intune and cannot be managed by it. The current policy that has emerged from issues with clients is what they call co-management, which is relatively new, and I do not know if adoption is significant. Many legacy or older customers who have been using these products for decades still have SCCM. When it is time for them to manage their Windows devices, they use what is called cloud attach. Cloud attach is a term whereby your SCCM is connected to your Microsoft Intune. Most people do not know about it, but I have deployed it for several organizations. Cloud attach and co-management work together so that your device is in SCCM, but some policies are pushed from Microsoft Intune. It is like two different solutions working hand in hand. That is what they call co-management. Microsoft Intune does not bring all of your endpoint and security management tools into one place, which is the goal and how it should be. However, as I mentioned, servers are not included. If we talk about end users, Microsoft Intune does bring all your devices together. In a typical enterprise environment, you have end users with workstations, laptops, company-issued phones, and bring your own devices. You can create policies for all of these. However, for the backend, your servers do not have much coverage. Servers are not really covered by Microsoft Intune in that way.

Accessing multiple PCs from remote locations is easy and reliable with this solution
The solution works very well, I do not have any problem with it at all. The only problem is they have more than tripled their price in the last three years over what they used to charge. A price reduction would probably be warranted as I am not getting three times the service. My husband uses it too and he agrees that a price reduction would be the only thing he would be looking for. The vendor more than tripled the price in the last three years — so it has doubled and then doubled again. They have just kind of gone through the roof when it comes to pricing and I think that they are justifying that because of the demand.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"When managing a large number of devices in an organization, it becomes easy to handle them on one platform using Microsoft Intune."
"Microsoft Intune is cost-effective and easy to use, so I can recommend it."
"Our main use is Intune's management of mobile devices, like Android or iPhone devices. The application performs quite well for both types. We successfully managed almost 3,000 endpoints."
"The core management feature in Intune is invaluable to us, especially considering the challenges we often face with System Center when pushing external updates."
"The biggest benefit for me in Microsoft Intune is control; I can control my users and what they can do and enforce the policies that I want to enforce, and it is a great tool to control and put structure to take the organization to the place I want to take it."
"It significantly reduces the overhead associated with providing support."
"I appreciate Intune's autopilot feature, which allows us to enroll devices and install applications to meet corporate requirements seamlessly."
"I have seen a return on investment right from the start of the tool's usage."
"Technical support is very good and very fast; we find them to be very knowledgeable."
"The solution is very quick to set up."
"I can do anything from a remote desktop as if I were sitting at my own PC."
"This solution has allowed us to have a highly flexible remote access solution in DR/BC situations."
"The installation is almost instant."
"The technical support is good."
"One of the most convenient features is that I can print from it and do everything as I would if I were sitting at my own desktop."
"Ability to save a permanent remote connection, hold, and/or transfer."
"I can remote reboot and know I can reconnect automatically without having to have the end user log back in again."
"We have an application, our LogMeIn application, a one-click application, so when our employees in different locations click the application, they have remote access and are connected to the IT office, so they can help people out without having to call or talk to us."
"It works with different operating systems, I can connect to a PC or Mac."
"We are able to quickly and easily get clients connected to our triage techs which allows us to resolve issues much more quickly, and with little stress."
"I think it’s the best product out there, and I tried to get off LogMeIn Rescue because of cost, but doing that hindered our performance and productivity and it was not worth the savings, so we quickly went back to LogMeIn after three months."
"Has an easy way to remote on to a remote computer without having prior access to it."
"The ability see iOS devices helps us out a lot because the majority of our users are iOS device users."

Cons

"Intune endpoint analytics can be challenging."
"The interoperability or communication with a different platform can be better. It is a two-way street. It is not only about Microsoft. The other platforms also have to be willing to share some information, but that absolutely can be improved."
"The MacBook management could be better."
"I would like the ability to install the agent on devices from suppliers, which would enable us to implement a zero-trust strategy for guest devices."
"However, there are some areas that need improvement, such as the troubleshooting part, which could be simpler."
"We are facing issues with Apple products. With macOS and iOS, there are some difficulties with the updates because we cannot get full control of Apple products. In the case of Windows, it is fine, but in the case of Apple, we have some difficulties. We cannot control everything through Intune."
"If we can not seem to get even half a dozen users working with the product in a way we consider stable, the scalability is in question."
"If you have a reporting-extensive company, for example, then you may need to look for other products."
"The only problem is they have more than tripled their price in the last three years over what they used to charge."
"The pricing has tripled in a small amount of time and there is not three times better service."
"This solution requires that the PC is "on" in order to reach it remotely. If the PC is hung then it requires a reboot."
"Integration could be improved. I'd prefer if the solution could integrate with our support and report tools as well as our timesheet reporting."
"They have raised their price so high on all their products, it has left room for competitors to come in."
"The billing team was poor when fixing their billing mistake and customer service was missing in action."
"For our company, great features, but too expensive."
"it needs better iOS integration. It's still limited in its functionality when it comes to iOS. Currently, when you do something other than iOS, you're not able to take control of what's going on; instead of having to tell the user, "Click here, click there," I would like to have full control over an iOS device."
"I do wish there was an application to manage all of the admin properties of the subscription, rather than having to use the web portal."
"I would like a single sign on for all of our (five) accounts so that I can immediately use an available seat. Right now, I have to try to log in with each account separately, in an attempt to find an available license that is not currently in use."
"Nothing's perfect but I think it's really a great tool just the way it is."
"I wish this product was tied to a Help Desk package so I could manage tickets and have an infrastructure, with this being the primary tool to troubleshoot."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing costs we leave up to the customer and these vary from one to another."
"The cost is somewhat on the higher side, particularly when considering certain price points, especially in markets like India."
"Previously the price was $4 per month per user. Now it's $2.25 per user per month."
"Every customer used to purchase licenses based on their needs."
"Intune is cost-effective as it is included in some of the Office 365 packages."
"It's a part of Microsoft 365 and E5 licenses. Microsoft's strategy of making every feature in Microsoft Intune paid needs optimization. Remote control is one of the basic features, not a luxury feature, yet we must pay for it. I"
"There is a license needed for this solution and it is either included in one of the enterprise license agreements. Microsoft licensing is a mathematical institute, it could be quite complex. We tend to ask specialized organizations to research what the most profitable way it would be for us to use licenses in the organizations."
"The product is offered as part of a Microsoft standard bundle. The pricing can be competitive to Airwatch, and Maas360."
"We pay approximately 2,000 Euros a year for the solution. The licensing is all-inclusive; you don't have to pay for extra add-ons or services."
"It was cheap and now it is comparably expensive. It costs me $484 to use the solution with just two physical PCs."
"I did look into a couple of other products, TeamViewer in particular, at one point. The price point of Rescue, compared to some of the other things that are in the marketplace right now, is high. But it's what I would call the "Cadillac" of the industry."
"The rescue model is licensed by user."
"It's definitely worth the value."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
"The pricing is worth the value."
"The pricing is a little on the higher side, though."
"The cost of LogMeIn is high... I went with another product that was going to give me savings of 50%. One technician tested it, he gave us the thumbs up. Then once we moved all my technicians to it, but it didn’t work... Trying to move from LogMeIn hindered our performance and productivity and it was not worth the savings."
"Look at the different plans they have. Do not pay for a plan you do not need."
