A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

A highly scalable solution that helps monitor and block undesired, non-standard traffic
Zscaler Cloud Firewall is a cloud-based solution. Zscaler Cloud Firewall is a good product. Since it's a SaaS product, most of the maintenance of devices is eliminated, and it is bundled with your secure web gateway. People should use Zscaler Cloud Firewall for their remote users or work-from-home users. Overall, I rate Zscaler Cloud Firewall a nine out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of FortiGate is FortiView which provides proactive monitoring."
"Fortinet FortiGate is among the best firewall solutions, having a significant market share in Egypt."
"I really like the captive portal feature for our guest network. It has nice VLAN features in terms of separating our network. The anti-virus is also good."
"We have received a very good ROI; it has provided significant time savings of almost 20-25%."
"Offers good security and filtering."
"The most valuable features are the possibility of having one fabric for switching on security."
"The most valuable features are the enterprise modeling and the simple interface."
"It's simple to operate and use."
"The scalability is okay. We have around 2200 people using this solution."
"It helps a lot of companies to reduce their downtime. Also, It helps businesses in terms of being secured and protected from any threats."
"The technical support from Zscaler was excellent."
"Includes advanced tech protection."
"Once you have Zscaler running you have access to configure it however you want."
"The visibility and log availability offered are highly valued for troubleshooting purposes, and this is a key factor driving customer interest in the firewall module."
"If malicious traffic attacks our on-premises servers, then it gets blocked by Zscaler Cloud Firewall."
"Zscaler is still a very good product."

Cons

"There are some issues with security features and aspects like logs not being up to the mark."
"There's room for improvement in the interface, especially following their upgrade to version nineteen."
"It claims it does DLP, but the degree and level of controls are very basic."
"The prevention mechanisms and implementation are not easy."
"There should be more testing before releasing software since it can be a little buggy sometimes when new features come out after updates."
"In terms of what could be improved, the SD-WAN is quite difficult, because if you install the new box, 15 is okay, but if you change from an old configuration, if there is already configuration and a policy when you change to SD-WAN, you must change the whole policy that you see in the interface."
"The documentation available for Fortinet FortiGate should be improved"
"Fortinet FortiGate could improve by adding FortiAnalyzer to its solution, we should not have to use another solution. FortiAnalyzer can provide more detailed information."
"They do not provide a few components that are fundamental to differentiate the products"
"Because it's on cloud, it doesn't allow application of extra settings."
"Pricing is a challenge."
"There are several areas for improvement. Firstly, the GUI is outdated, with noticeable lags and delays, especially when generating reports for past transactions."
"Instead of the standard license, they should certainly provide customers with the visibility to access and view the logs."
"There are some areas it could improve when it comes to blocking, we have to block some things manually. For example, if we block a top-level domain we have seen that the new IPs come through, the IPs are not blocked. There should be some more granular way of doing it. My only request is if you're blocking something at a top level, the sub-level sub-domains and all those other IPs should be blocked too automatically."
"We are having some issues with internet access being denied when organizational ID-based policies change. For example, a lower level employee ends up getting the same level of access as that of a higher level employee."
"If I can get rid of Jetscaler, I will use Twingate for sure."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's an expensive solution"
"We find the most valuable aspect of this solution is the price. It is affordable, and cheaper than other firewalls."

"The price of FortiGate is comparable to that of most other firewall solutions and is more affordable than Cisco."
"The price of FortiGate is average and I would say that based on the top five products available on the market, it is in the affordable range."
"It comes at a significantly reduced cost while ensuring control and effectiveness."
"The licensing is on a yearly basis. It is somewhere around 30 or 40 pounds per user for our organization."

"There is an annual license required for the use of the Zscaler Cloud Firewall."

Sophos UTM vs. Fortinet FortiGate
I have used both Sophos and Fortinet products in production and I have found the Sophos UTM appliances (hardware and virtual) to be a better fit most of the time -- with a few caveats which I will touch on below. In both instances, the transition from TMG will be mostly straightforward. The main…
