Requires extensive customization and fails to meet manufacturing needs
My overall experience with Epicor ERP is extremely bad. I just finished a call with the team, and the experience is really unsatisfactory. I will not recommend it to anyone. There's extensive customization required for Epicor ERP, and the standard process is not suitable. Though it is meant for manufacturing, it is not performing the manufacturing job effectively. Regarding the installation process, the implementation is not the problem as the installation is fine. The issue lies with configuration. Although it's supposed to be configurable, it requires customization for everything we need to do. When comparing to JD Edwards and in-house applications, a process that takes one minute in those systems takes ten minutes in Epicor ERP because users have to navigate through different screens constantly. If a user forgets to switch to one screen, the process remains incomplete, making end-user training extremely difficult. There's no automation and workflow feature that can be used without customization. Everything requires changes, making it similar to developing a new platform from scratch. Initially, we anticipated some benefits from using Epicor ERP, but based on the current outcome, it has been completely unsuccessful. The main issue is that everything requires customization rather than configuration. Unless they change their whole approach from customization to configuration, this product should not be used anywhere.

The solution is a reliable, stable, and cost-saving ERP
Different countries have different finance practices, but I believe they need to fine-tune their practices to match industry standards. Practices vary from country to country, for example, in India, it is different than in the US. Sometimes, clients require alternate processes that are not standard, but they claim that these are the standard practices in their industry. At those times, we feel that the option required is not available with the solution. This is not the case only for Infor M3. Other ERPs also have the same problem. We can't mold the ERP to fit the customer's requirements. There are some standards in place because many screens and programs are integrated into the finance process. We can't make modifications to fit the client's requirements. The customer needs specific screens for different users, so if that program is in place, we have one planning tool in Infor M3. Planners need to know all things related to manufacturing, purchase, and sales in order to make decisions about planning. In one of my clients, I came across the requirement that they were asking for user authority in the planning tool. This is not the case though, because all planners need to know all things. However, on the manufacturing side, we can say that the person who is working with machine operations only needs to know machine-related information and doesn't need knowledge of products or sales. That standard industry is available, so we can give access to the user as per their needs. If the maintenance people are there, we can give them limited access, but if the planner is there, we need to give them all access according to industry standards. However, this requirement from the client side is not possible with the standard Infor software, but Infor can consider implementing it if the need is larger for many customers.

Centralizes our enterprise-wide functions but could benefit from cloud migration
We have dealt with customer service, and it was awful. For a system this size, it felt like we were merely buying software from them. They weren't really partnered with us on it. Reporting bugs and getting feedback, as well as having engineers work on issues, was very transactional. There was no real ownership on Oracle's part. During several support cases, it became difficult to determine ownership at Oracle and get status updates. The on-premises Oracle support is not great in my experience, and I think this is true in the industry. We've read about their software as a solution, and theoretically, their SaaS portal support is a lot better.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is great for production planning because everything is out of the box. It smoothly handles the process from engineering to ERP, including version management and subcontracting. These features aren't in NetSuite."
"Epicor ERP paid for itself in the first year and a half, and continued to make the company lean and more profitable by providing tools to manage business operations better, such as production scheduling, finance, and estimating products."
"For the past two years, my focus has been fully on Epicor ERP, and there are many new features which we did not deploy in our platform."
"Epicor ERP is very technical friendly, if you want to do any customization, it's very easy."
"The product is stable with a rating of ten."
"Epicor ERP has harmonized our processes and provides significant visibility in reporting."
"Dashboards and Business Activity Query are very useful."
"The most valuable features of Epicor ERP are ease of use, powerful API, and comprehensive integration. It is a one-vendor solution, where other vendors need other software systems from multiple vendors."
"It's simple to use. You don't need any complex training to use it."
"provides all modules, supply chain, HR - it's good for management."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to cover different types of activities, and the requirement for maintenance and data is very low."
"Infor M3 has tailor-made packages for each and every industry."
"Infor M3 has several valuable features, including customer order management and integration capabilities with third-party applications like ION."
"Its ease of use is most valuable. Inquiries are transparent, and it shows good information on each screen. We don't have to go to 14 different screens to find out about one item, which is a big advantage."
"The most valuable feature of Infor M3 is the level of detail it has about the different manufacturing processes compared to other ERP solutions. Other ERP solutions provide the same level of integration as Infor M3, but Infor M3 specializes in several functions, such as planning and manufacturing."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is that it is highly customizable."
"Oracle E-Business Suite has over 20 different modules to choose from, it is comprehensive. Additionally, the integration is very good."
"The most valuable feature is the integration between accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and budgeting."
"The on-premise is very similar to the cloud version."
"It's a tightly integrated solution."
"The complete product suite is good. The financials are good, it is the best product I've been working with is Oracle Financial. Supply chain manufacturing is very comprehensive and the connectivity, between all the modules, is seamless. They are all communicated well with one another."
"It is quite stable."
"I like that one system covers everything."
"When correctly configured, this is a very stable solution. We have customers running their process automation manufacturing based off of this solution."

Cons

"The main challenge with implementing Epicor ERP is finding the right partners, especially in Europe."
"A number of bugs in 9.05 were only fixed in 10."
"Everything requires changes, making it similar to developing a new platform from scratch."
"The tool should provide a better user interface."
"I would like to see a better reporting tool."
"There are some glitches in Epicor ERP."
"Epicor didn't care about user level and software applications. So, it's not so user-friendly for nontechnical people."
"There's a new version of the solution that has some bugginess. They're cleaning that up. The user interface is an area that needs improvement and they're improving."
"The solution is stable but not agile."
"I would like to have some kind of dashboard to show an overview of different data on the same dashboard or on the same screen instead of moving to BI."
"Sometimes, M3 alone cannot handle all the planning functionalities required by a customer. It has to be used along with industry-specific planning tools because M3 doesn't have all the features. However, no product can handle all the requirements of all the industries. There will be some shortcomings in all the products. Though this is an area for improvement, it is not a very serious shortfall or limitation. It can be covered by using third-party planning applications that integrate with Infor M3."
"Customer support from Infor is responsive and addresses issues, but the response time can be delayed, which sometimes leads me to explore private vendors."
"It should be improved in terms of procurement of the supply chain and business intelligence analysis. We have the Infor BI tool, but it's more complex to use than, for example, Power Pivot or QlikView in the market."
"Infor should create one product to handle the whole business. At present, they make ERP systems for each type of business, and then sell additional features. I would like to have one system handing all organizations or all the business in deep ways and not have to buy additional features."
"We can't make modifications to fit the client's requirements."
"Its initial setup was probably complex, but it is a very good system."
"The EBS Design to some extent is still monolithic."
"Administration takes some effort. Administrating the technology stack is not so complex but application aware database administration and following the new methodologies like online patching can be a little complex and time consuming. Oracle should ease the administrators jobs and do some innovation on this administration area as well. Oracle Autonomous Database is Oracle's leading technology these days. Using a similar approach, application stack may become a little more self-managing."
"I would rate the support for Oracle E-Business Suite a four out of five."
"Areas for improvement would be that sometimes it's a bit rigid with customization and doesn't always facilitate region-specific requirements."
"The user interface could be better. It's not good because they made their interface all in one, and my customers don't want to use it. I have to customize the interface and personalize it to hide some fields on the screen. It has lots of information on the screen, and the user can't easily navigate it. It's very difficult to use. I think that Oracle should have something like best practices. They need to provide some patches to simplify the interface based on the industry niche. Because now we see everything on the same screen, but the users don't need all that information. It's complicated to use for end-users, and we have to spend more time training them. In the next release, I think they should implement most of the features in the mobile app. It should be better. Oracle didn't update their mobile application for a very long time. Connecting the mobile application is complicated."
"Improvements could be made in mobility for mobile applications or tablets."
"It would be great to see Oracle E-Business Suite become less dependent on the SAO solution, which is an integration solution for Oracle platforms."
"They started on the mobile app and tablets, but still I see there are no short-forms used in EBS."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We bought an on-premise version of the solution. The cloud version is different. I've looked into it, but it's very competitive on the low end of the market."
"The initial cost may be a bit high, but the maintenance cost is lower."
"Epicor ERP is an expensive solution."
"Pricing isn't a big problem for the solution - I haven't seen them lose deals because of it."
"User support could be improved as well, as the consultant charges are very high."
"When comparing Epicor ERP to the other related products, the pricing, additional enhancements, as well as implementation, are better."
"There is a yearly licensing cost. The price is based on the modules you need. There are several modules, such as HR module, accounting module, sales module, scheduling module, etc., and the price will vary depending on the number of modules you choose. The customers always say that it's very expensive. It can cost a lot of money if your organization is huge. It's not implemented in a lot of organizations in my country because it's too expensive."
"The tool’s licensing is yearly."
"The cost is between $50 and $100 per user annually."
"If you compare Infor M3 to SAP, Infor M3 is less expensive than SAP, but if you compare Infor M3 to Dynamics 365, Infor M3 is more expensive. It also depends on the model that you buy. It depends on whether you have the complete package or whether you have separate models."
"Infor M3 is a tier-two product and is cheaper than tier-one products such as SAP and Oracle. However, it is more expensive than some other tier-two products. The licensing cost is dependent on the number of users. Also, if you purchase other tools from Infor as a package, then there may be other discounts offered."
"I'm not part of the team that manages Infor M3 pricing, but it depends on the client, integration, ship-out, and training levels. You get the price from the solution provider, but it would be best to discuss it because nothing is set in stone regarding pricing."
"Oracle has different licensing models available. For example, concurrent user license metric and power unit licensing metric. It is different from product to product, but for the application itself, the license is by the number of users."
"Pricing for Oracle E-Business Suite is seven out of ten. You must pay extra for maintenance and technical support, apart from standard license fees."
"Oracle E-Business Suite is cheaper than SAP. It is expensive."
"This product is more expensive if you compare it to SAP."
"At the time of purchasing the license the price was reasonable."
"The pricing is high."
"The price would be better if it were lower."
"Oracle E-Business Suite is heavy subscriptions based and the solution's upgrades, under the technology licensing, are quite costly. Additionally, support is an extra cost. The price of the solution could be reduced."
