Provides backups, including long-term retention with increased uptime and compatibility
I was looking for a virtual edition, and that is now available. Many customers struggle to find a solution for ransomware protection, but we can set up an enterprise recovery vault for that purpose. These features are now part of Dell's overall offering. The solution has matured, and while I don't criticize technology, most of our technical and business requirements are met with the Data Domain storage solution. We can meet customer requirements easily with Data Domain. Some feedback has been received from our operations team. There’s always room for improvement. For instance, there may be suggestions regarding enhancements to the reporting dashboard

Maximized storage capacity and minimized costs and an easy setup
Most of our client base is between fifty to five hundred end users. We occasionally recommend high-end HPE products for larger clients needing performance and reliability. Our clients predominantly use HPE StoreOnce for small business purposes in industries like dairy and finance Our clients have…

Backup and recovery that is stable but support is no longer in existence
The DPM is pretty good, but when it comes to external devices, you can't back up to the external device. It's a huge drawback because once everything goes down, it goes down fully. We can't take a snapshot and take it outside, which is a problem. Also, when it comes to recovery, the recovery process doesn't work properly. It doesn't recover. One of our drives failed and when we wanted to recover it from the other drive, it never worked. So, we couldn't recover the data. Recovery of data if the server goes down, is not very good. The DPM is good apart from the support services. We were told that the support was no longer in existence, which is why we are looking for another provider. In the next release, I would like to see backup to external devices, so it can always restore the backup and we can take it externally and store it somewhere that it is off-site and archived. Currently, it does not allow us to do that because it is required to be in one location.

"The scalability is very good."
"HPE StoreOnce has high performance."
"Deduplication and compression are in a good ratio. It supports the HPE Catalyst protocol, which is much faster than NFS and other protocols. We use CommVault and Veeam, and these two solutions support the Catalyst protocol very well and are integrated at high speed. It is faster than normal access."
"The speed and deduplication ratio are two of the most valuable features of the solution."
"It's easy to backup data, manage. A"
"Recovery is important."
"It is very easy to implement."
"One of the most effective features of Microsoft DPM is its integration with the entire Microsoft ecosystem."
"It is almost perfect for Microsoft products. It is not a very powerful tool, but it is okay for small sites and small businesses with Microsoft products. It is easy to use for backup and restore. It is good for backing up Microsoft servers such as Exchange and SharePoint servers."
"I could back up all the stuff we had, even the VMs we have for Hyper V."
"The solution backs up Microsoft workloads as well as anything on the market."
"I like the core backup feature. I also like the file server backup feature. I find Microsoft DPM interesting because it has fantastic integration with Microsoft products. For example, in Exchange and SharePoint, DPM is excellent when it comes to backing up data. It also does a decent job with open-source products."
"The most important feature is that it's easy to use."
"One of the most effective features of Microsoft DPM is its integration with the entire Microsoft ecosystem."

Cons

"We are not able to deal directly with the OEM we have to go to their partners in Nigeria."
"The initial setup is complex."
"The model 3330 may need improvement."
"It can probably have integration with other OEMs. It should also have more features for ransomware protection."
"It could be more secure."
"Dell PowerProtect DD does not have integration with the cloud and virtualization software."
"When you use Data Domain, you have to have at least 20% free space so it can work properly. Sometimes we struggle with that, because we wanted to use all the free space, but then Data Domain becomes really slow. I understand that 20% is needed to process all the data, and doing the duplication and compression and all that, but it would be a big improvement if they did not require that 20%, because it is just too much to have available."
"The Data Domain solution appliance is quite expensive. It is on the higher side, but technically or functionally, there is no issue."
"In terms of areas for improvement, I believe HPE StoreOnce could learn from competitors like Dell's Data Domain and ExtraHop in refining its architecture."
"I would like to see better integration with Veeam software."
"improvement? HPE StoreOnce has a limitation with respect to controllers. Other tools offer more than one controller. I feel that the high availability of the view controller should be redundant. The tool’s control and UI part should be improved and made more advanced. The feature that helps with the manual movement of tapes should also be improved."
"HPE StoreOnce needs to be made cheaper than products from Dell and Veeam."
"The GUI and its user-friendliness have some room for improvement."
"The dashboard needs more improvement."
"The appliance doesn't have the global deduplication, it has StoreOnce deduplication. It does not deduplicate across the appliance, it will deduplicate in one particular store. With the global deduplication, I could store more data."
"HPE StoreOnce Backup to Disk (BTD) is not a good backup solution for NAS devices. It does not have a dual controller, so if one controller fails, the entire system will go down."
"You have only a few settings and if you change them for some special configurations, it's very difficult."
"The problem lies with the 2019 version, it's the file system they’re using."
"The data tagging feature needs improvement. The solution could be a bit more intuitive in certain aspects."
"To evaluate the solution's abilities and its performance under demanding conditions, it is recommended to carry out a stress test."
"Additional Hyper-V knowledge would be great."
"Management reporting could be improved."
"It can back up, yet it lacks features compared to Veeam."
"Compatibility and integration with other products needs improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The yearly subscription is very affordable for our customers, but the price could be a little cheaper overall."
"Pricing for this product could still be improved, though several years ago, its price was very high. When buying an IDPA product such as Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain), you don't have to buy anything else, because you'll have an integrated solution: a data domain appliance plus software."
"The approximate license cost for Dell PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) is around 5,00,000."
"The pricing is cost-effective for the solution"
"Users have to pay a capacity-based licensing fee for the solution."
"There are many options in the pricing structure which can cause some confusion and necessitate the purchase of additional licensing."
"It is expensive, but the performance and deduplication cover for the cost."
"In Naira it was twenty-five or twenty-seven million (approximately $75,000 USD) for the implementation and maintenance cost for three years."
"The licensing schemes could improve in HPE StoreOnce and the price is high. They should reduce the price."
"The product is not expensive. It is available at a good price."
"The solution is pretty expensive."
"We have got a perpetual license, and we have access to all the features. If you are using cloud banks, you can store the internal data in HPE Cloud if needed. You can offload the data to the HPE Cloud. It is a licensed product. We have got around 10 TB of cloud bank storage with a one-time payment. We specifically took 10 TB for very critical offsite backups. We can also increase it in blocks if needed."
"The product's pricing is medium."
"The cost of HPE StoreOnce is very expensive."
"There are costs for additional storage and space."
"Price-wise, it comes with a high price tag when compared to other products."
"I think Microsoft DPM pricing is reasonable. The additional costs are related to storage and technical support."
"Microsoft DPM can be considered as an expensive solution for smaller or medium enterprises, but we have been satisfied with the price structure as it is fixed and it offers a variety of useful features"
"Microsoft DPM is a free solution. However, we pay approximately $3,000 annually for support."
