PROS

Microsoft DPM provides excellent integration with Microsoft products, especially for Exchange and SharePoint.
It allows for efficient backup and recovery across Microsoft workloads and Hyper-V environments.
Microsoft DPM supports a variety of backup types, including application, file, system, and hypervisor backups.
The automated processes within Microsoft DPM streamline tasks and improve security management.
Microsoft DPM is scalable and effective for managing operations across servers and workstations.

CONS

Data tagging needs improvement, and compatibility and integration with third-party solutions like Oracle Database are lacking.
Microsoft DPM reporting is too weak and should be enhanced to include data governance frameworks.
The reliance on Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy, especially for Hyper-V, presents problems, and the functionality should be enhanced.
Microsoft DPM should offer portability with other vendors and support integration and data replication features like Veeam.
The absence of backend support structure makes issue escalation difficult as there is no support received from Microsoft DPM.

The real hands-on experience with DPM is that it's difficult to set up unless you get it right first time, the agent processes gobble CPU and i/o, and if you're unfortunate enough for your DPM primary to go awol, you're faced with building a complete DPM network again because the secondaries will refuse full backups if the primary isn't there.

Recent minor upgrade required a reboot of all of my protected 2008 servers. This I considered unacceptable as I had to reschedule an outage window to reboot 100+ servers.
