Improvements in data storage efficiency and customer support experience
ExaGrid EX Series and Veeam was easy to set up, and it worked seamlessly. It was very simple to use. We rarely needed to touch the ExaGrid boxes, except for upgrades. With the systems engineer from ExaGrid, and with our common knowledge of backup software, it was very easy to use. The performance was good, the interface was good, and the GUI was good. When ExaGrid introduced the air gapped feature, it was almost complete. Almost every hardware vendor has an air gapped feature, but they were significantly ahead of other vendors. The air gapped and immutable storage are very nice features. The price compared to other competitors was good with better features. It is not a cheap product, but compared to the features, it is a good competitor.

Collaborate effectively with partners and benefit from robust data management capabilities
The functions of HPE StoreOnce that I find most valuable are its deduplication and replication options. These features save data and reduce the size of data significantly. If the actual size for backup data is 100 terabytes, using StoreOnce, it will be around less than 10% of the original size due to the 1 to 10 deduplication ratio. So, compression and replication are critical features I appreciate. Additionally, adaptive backup and restore capabilities of HPE StoreOnce are indeed very helpful functions. As I know from my technical team, the process is very easy for end users because the GUI and user experience with StoreOnce are straightforward. They can restore their backups at any time. An important feature of StoreOnce is that they can reserve an amount of storage capacity as protected capacity for a limited time, safeguarding their data against intrusion and other interactions. Based on feedback from customers, StoreOnce is regarded as a highly useful solution for backup. I am satisfied with the security aspects of HPE StoreOnce, but it's crucial for any company to maintain a multi-layer security approach. Starting with a firewall is essential for maintaining their environment. Additionally, security features on StoreOnce are useful. I believe that no company should rely solely on one layer of security; they should adopt a multi-layer security strategy that begins at the network level and extends to their internal solutions.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"One of the main features is the landing zone, it is a particular space where the information is not duplicated."
"The tool has improved backup and recovery times. One of the key features contributing to this improvement is the landing zone and deduplication retention zone. When data is in the landing zone, the process is fast, ensuring smooth backup and recovery operations at high speeds. However, the process becomes slower for long-term backups moved to the retention zone due to fragmentation. So, if the data is older than a few days, the speed may be limited, especially for non-deduplicated data in the landing zone."
"One of the most valuable aspects of the ExaGrid EX Series is the support."
"The most valuable features of the solution are deduplication and landing zone."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of use and data deduplication. It's extremely easy to use and does a very good job of data deduplication and compression."
"The solution easily integrates with the backup targets, such as Veeam."
"ExaGrid EX Series and Veeam was easy to set up, and it worked seamlessly."
"It is a solid and a quite simple solution, which is a good combination. The customers like the simplicity and its scale-out capacity. They like the support pricing, and even the extension capacity pricing, a fixed price, which the executive is offering in Czech market."
"Over 51TB of data is backed up and replicated off-site every week quickly and reliably, compared to the laborious tape archiving solution we had in the past."
"StoreOnce scaling has been good."
"Deduplication and compression are in a good ratio. It supports the HPE Catalyst protocol, which is much faster than NFS and other protocols. We use CommVault and Veeam, and these two solutions support the Catalyst protocol very well and are integrated at high speed. It is faster than normal access."
"The product is stable; there are no bugs or glitches, it doesn't crash or freeze, it's reliable, and the performance is good."
"HPE backup systems are very good products, easy to manage, with very good performance, a lot of ongoing new development, and good integration with many backup or storage products."
"Has very good deduplication and encryption features."
"It's cost effective, technologically advanced, and very scalable."
"The scalability of HPE StoreOnce is excellent."

Cons

"The solution could improve by switching to a flash-type solution rather than the spinning drives that they currently use. However, we have not had any failure with the spinning drives. The flash-type drives are more up-to-date and are something that is in their roadmap."
"When speaking about a scale-out, you want to have better equipment. You cannot just add a disc to the foreign equipment. You have to buy another one and put it together, like parallel."
"The support is not that fast to deal with our concerns. It is next day support, they could improve on the speed."
"I would like for them to develop direct cloud integration with a third-party cloud. Direct integration with AWS and other cloud providers."
"I would like for them to develop direct cloud integration with a third-party cloud. Direct integration with AWS and other cloud providers."
"The product's documentation can be made more precise."
"The solution could improve by switching to a flash-type solution rather than the spinning drives that they currently use."
"The tool reduces storage footprint. However, clients are now storing data for longer durations with increasing requirements to retain backups for longer periods, particularly as a defense against ransomware attacks. As a result, the retention zone with duplicated data is experiencing more demand, leading to space constraints. This necessitates using higher-end, more expensive models to address the issue."
"The user interface of HPE StoreOnce should be more user-friendly. Additionally, the configuration and troubleshooting could be better."
"The product could be improved with better support for data protection."
"Deduplication algorithms still require enhancement."
"It is difficult to solve issues with this solution remotely. I prefer to use the knowledge base platforms. The response time could improve."
"In order to import tapes from StoreOnce, we had to identify the ID of the items in each store on the appliances, and then create them manually on the HP Data Protector."
"I don't see any new features that we could want or anything that could be done along those lines. Just that we need a bigger machine, so more speed."
"But the initial network setup is not intuitive, and this could be improved."
"Segmentation was one of the requirements. The HP team promised us that it is possible, but it wasn't available."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate ExaGrid EX Series' pricing eight to nine out of ten."
"My company had to pay 1,60,000 EUR for the system we use, and the payment was made just once for the system and five years of full support."
"The current agreement has 21 terabytes of free space and it cost approximately $35,000."
"In comparison to other solutions, it's affordable. They're all too expensive."
"The previous solutions I have used both included the Backup Software and the Appliance making it hard to compare to this solution. However, overall the solution is reasonably priced for the features you receive. ExaGrid EX Series is priced better than HP, Dell, and possibly Commvault which I have compared in the past."
"The product is not expensive. It is available at a good price."
"The solution's cost is above average."
"The price puts me off. It's definitely on the high side."
"There are costs for additional storage and space."
"We have got a perpetual license, and we have access to all the features. If you are using cloud banks, you can store the internal data in HPE Cloud if needed. You can offload the data to the HPE Cloud. It is a licensed product. We have got around 10 TB of cloud bank storage with a one-time payment. We specifically took 10 TB for very critical offsite backups. We can also increase it in blocks if needed."
"I would rate it around two or three because, compared to others, it tends to be higher priced."
"I rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten."
"The licensing schemes could improve in HPE StoreOnce and the price is high. They should reduce the price."
