Automation has reduced backup overhead and simplifies multi-cloud protection and disaster recovery
The biggest advantage of Dell PowerProtect Cloud Snapshot is that it is agentless, which means Dell manages the platform by reducing maintenance effort and operational overhead. It protects workloads across cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure through a single user graphical interface, and it automatically protects new workloads while reducing manual backup admin tasks, which in turn minimizes human errors. Automation in Dell PowerProtect Cloud Snapshot helps define protection policies such as which resources to protect, when to take snapshots, how long to retain them, and where to copy them, effectively creating and managing snapshots and their retention. The solution does help to streamline IT operations by providing centralized visibility into backup operations, audit logs, and recovery readiness through Dell PowerProtect Cloud Snapshot, which also assists administrators in monitoring protection status.

Automated backups have increased user trust and ensured reliable multi-region disaster recovery
While I think the integration of Infrascale Backup & Disaster Recovery is pretty seamless, the backup takes slightly more time to complete, which could also be because of the huge data in our databases. The networking flow can definitely improve, which could speed up the scale at which backups are performed. Increased availability into more regions would be beneficial. Currently, Infrascale Backup & Disaster Recovery is limited to certain regions in the world, but there could be customers who would want to use it in Mumbai or other parts of the globe. That would increase their use case and help cater to more customers across the world.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"In terms of ROI, I would say that Dell PowerProtect Cloud Snapshot saves backup admins between 10 lakh to 20 lakhs per annum, providing a strong ROI by automating protection policies and lowering operational costs."
"Dell PowerProtect Cloud Snapshot has a positive impact by reducing downtime and giving us confidence in recovery."
"It is easy to restore VMs in the cloud."
"If you want something that works and is reliable, here it is."
"Get Infrascale and talk to their team. They will support you, and they will make you the happiest customer out there."
"For this particular client, the solution’s Critical Server Insurance feature that protects physical and virtual servers including Windows, Linux, VMware, and Hyper-V, was a very big factor as well. They have a bunch of physical servers, as well as virtual. The mix is predominantly virtual. They also have some NAS boxes that we back up using Infrascale."
"Given that we are in the hurricane belt, the spin-up of replicated servers in the cloud is among the most valuable features, because if our site goes down we can just connect to the cloud appliance, spin up the servers, and we are good to go."
"The best part is the possibility to spill over the lock-ups to the cloud and the spin-up part."
"The biggest lesson that I have learned from using this product is that we should have switched years before we did."
"The overall ease of use and ease of management of the solution using the Infrascale dashboard is excellent. I'd rate it 10 out of 10 because the dashboard is very simple to use. For someone with a technical background, it's a wonderful piece of software to be using in a cloud environment. But if you're not technical, then it might be a problem. It could be confusing for non-technical people. If you don't know what you're doing, you could kind of screw it up. Any human with two brain cells can do it. It's like anything else. So, once you train a human, they're good. Anybody can do it. Anybody with a competent brain can use it and go with a little bit of technical skill. It might be confusing in the beginning, but once you're trained up and you've used it a little bit, like anything else in your life, it'll be easy. They'll come as normal."
"The experience that we have had with this product is generally good."

Cons

"One area for improvement with Dell PowerProtect Cloud Snapshot is the reporting dashboard."
"However, it depends on the customer's use cases and whether they really want to spend that much money and time on it."
"Regarding scalability, I find that while Dell PowerProtect Cloud Snapshot offers multi-cloud scalability, it is not one of its strongest features."
"There could be some room for improvement in the on-premises hardware selection."
"The customer was probably down for about three days; this was a very difficult situation for us to be in."
"In terms of overage, or outgrowing capacity with backups, I have an issue."
"There could be some room for improvement in the on-premises hardware selection. It is hard for them to deploy a lot of different hardware options. Depending on footprint size and overall capabilities, that is where there could be some flexibility in some cases. However, it is not a deal-breaker."
"They can always make the GUI a little bit nicer, the interface level a bit better. There's always room for improvement."
"One of the significant drawbacks of it is due to the fact that we're using two devices to manage the same vCenter, or virtualization environment, and they don't talk to each other. That means I can't easily see what VMs are already being protected. If I'm on Infrascale device "A" and I have protected these VMs, when I go over to device "B," I can't see that those VMs are already covered."
"When the product works, there is really nothing to fix, but they can allow different types of backups, such as differential or incremental backups."
"User interface and navigation are also not that good."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Our licensing fees are billed every four months."
"They are incredibly fair and willing to work with their partners to make their pricing work for both partners and the end users."
"You get unlimited clients and buy a bucket of space. In addition to the standard fees there were setup fees."
"I appreciate their pricing. We went for this solution for its pricing."
"The pricing is pretty good and competitive with the market. The per-terabyte pricing is very competitive compared to the others."
"Pricing of the product could be improved. It definitely makes it a harder sell. They will usually end up getting close to the price we need, but I have to go through everybody to get the price reduced. Their list pricing is significantly higher than that of other solutions."
"The licensing is based on how much data you have plus what appliances you need."
"It is super competitive. It is worth taking a look at it from a licensing and pricing perspective."
