We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The speed of the Pure FlashArray is very, very fast and nothing in the market can compare to it.""I use all the features of this solution and I find them to be easy to use and functional, such as the compression and capacity to expand.""Their technical support is excellent. It's the best out of any of the vendors we work with.""Because we were able to afford to go all flash, we don't manage the tiers, we're not moving data up, and we're not waiting for overnight cycles.""The amount of data that I have moved to it from legacy storage has enabled us to retire units that are three or four times the physical size.""It does efficient work of storing data while still delivering the performance that you would normally expect from a higher priced solution.""Their support system has insight into errors on our SAN fabric that we can't see. They've brought attention to and raised awareness for us about things that we couldn't see, when we were experiencing problems.""The availability and ease of use are the big features."

"High performance and ease-of-management are the most valuable features.""It's very fast. We were seeing read latencies of less than one millisecond. It is robust.""The initial setup is straightforward.""It performed great originally, and when it performed great, it was awesome.""Data Compression: Up to 80% space reduction in the database""EasyTier/hotcaching: Valuable because it allows greater performance than standard SAS disks""It provides a combination of all the protocols that you need, without losing deduplication and compression.""It has reduced our electricity usage by reducing the amount of disks needed for the virtual environment."

"There are no significant challenges in terms of scalability, and it can accommodate larger storage capacities compared to other storage solutions.""The product offers high stability.""The most valuable features in Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform F Series are Shadowimage, easy to manage equipment, and upgrading the firewire is very simple.""It is the most stable high-end solution in this area.""The active-active option seemed to be working well and overall, it was a solid product.""The product's reliability has been crucial for our company's operations.""It's a state of the art solution in storage systems. High-availability and performance are the strongest aspects of these machines.""The hybrid array provides scaleable, predictable, high performance with no capacity constraints."

Cons
"I like what they're doing, but some of my customers complain that they do not have all the bells and whistles and knobs to fine-tune workloads that some of the competitors have. In my opinion, that's good. All customers don't have dedicated storage gurus, and they can get themselves into trouble if they fine-tune too many of those high-performance knobs, but they do get knocked down. Pure Storage takes a hit in the minds and opinions of some of the customers because they cannot customize things as much as compared to a legacy storage provider's appliance such as NetApp, Dell EMC, or even HPE. I personally think 95% of my customers are better off letting the system fine-tune itself. That was something that you needed to do 12 or 15 years ago, but now with all-flash, the technology can handle what it needs to handle. Customers just end up shooting themselves in the foot if they are tweaking too many default settings.""Data reduction is an area that needs improvement. There is a garbage collection service that runs but during that time, system utilization increases.""In the next release I would like to see integration into other third-party player providers like Google.""We would like to see better troubleshooting aspects. It helps us if we can find out where the problem is. Right now, it's difficult. Sometimes it's difficult to pinpoint the issue. If they had more visibility and more troubleshooting feature built into the tool that would really help.""The backend of this solution utilizes an Active/Passive architecture, rather than an Active/Active architecture, which is a disadvantage, when compared to some of its competitors. Its storage capacity should be expanded in the next release.""In the configuration, which we brought in or tested it in, it has a very limited config as far as the array goes. That said, it still did more than our anticipation.""The number of Filesystems is limited, which it is not on the EMC VNX.""Most of our upgrades have not been as smooth as they should have been."

More Pure Storage FlashArray Cons →

"In the proxy section you can’t choose a user account and password, so it is not allowed at the moment to go out, if customer has such constellation.""Performance is horrible now. Our original intent was to buy new storage in about two years. But since it became a critical urgency for us, we decided to purchase a new one in two or three months.""We had just one small stability problem with power flapping and it did not start up again automatically. We had to access service ports and manually restart the storage processors.""Snapshots are not as easy to access as on a NetApp device.""Technical support is bad. It'd grade them at 30% or 40%. The response time is terrible.""It only keeps one hour of real-time data without the ability to do deep analysis of each element.""It's somewhat scalable, but maybe not so much as some of the competition.""They need to offer better integration for a virtual platform to enable you to create hyper-converged solution."

More DDN IntelliFlash Cons →

"The interface should be simplified and made easier to use.""The installation procedure it a bit difficult, because it is a high-end solution. With this type of product, the original company is interested in doing the setup for customers in the area, but because of sanctions we were not able to get support in our area. We faced many issued trying to learn to run this product.""n future releases, I would like to see enhancements in the web GUI capabilities for direct management without additional PCM.""We moved away from this product because we were looking for an all-flash solution, and with our G1500 at the time, perhaps two years ago, they were just proposing more of the same technology.""The life-cycle of the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series is too short. We only had approximately four or five years out of the solution before it was rendered its end of life.""In the next version I would like to see additional features like artificial intelligence and an increase in the amount of data it can store.""They should look at the cost because there are other vendors who offer the same cost with more features.""The complex setup, ease of use, and snapshot operations of this product need to be improved."

    Overview

Pure Storage FlashArray is the world’s first enterprise-class storage array that runs exclusively on the nonvolatile memory express (NVMe) protocol for memory access and storage. It represents a totally state-of-the-art type of storage technology. It offers users shared accelerated storage that delivers cutting-edge features in the realms of performance, simplicity, and consolidation. Pure Storage is fresh and modern today and will be for the next decade. Without forklift upgrades or planned downtime, Pure Storage takes the work out of storage ownership and delivers unprecedented customer satisfaction.

Pure Storage FlashArray is built with simplicity and reliability in mind. The solution can be implemented and optimized in hours, as opposed to other similar solutions that can take days. It has no moving parts, which removes areas where it could potentially be vulnerable to suffering errors. It is highly stable and gives users the ability to manage system shutdowns in a way that  prevents data loss.

    Benefits of Pure Storage FlashArray

Some of the benefits of using Pure Storage FlashArray include:

    • A much higher level of speed than similar pieces of technology. Pure Storage FlashArray maximizes the speed at which data can be transferred while at the same time minimizing system latencies that might slow the transfer down. Additionally, it offers users quick memory read and data access speeds.

    • A higher bang for your buck in terms of the storage capabilities you get for the money you pay. They are smaller in size than more standard storage technologies, but they offer flash memory, which enables users to store larger amounts of data than the current standard.

    Reviews from Real Users

Pure Storage FlashArray is a highly effective piece of storage technology which stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its overall robustness and the value that it offers by way of its reliability and ease of use. It provides users with many valuable features that allow them to maximize what they can do with this solution. Pure Storage FlashArray’s reliability and ease of use make it a highly valuable solution.

PeerSpot user Prabakaran K., a technical consultant at Injazat Data Systems, notes the robustness of this solution when he writes, "FlashArray has many valuable features. It's very user-friendly and it has high availability, so there is comparatively less downtime. During maintenance, there is no shutdown procedure, so you can directly power off the Array and manage the shutdown process without any data loss, which is a unique feature. Managing replication and data migration is also very easy."

PeerSpot user Jason D., a cloud solutions architect at a tech services company, notes three features that make this solution valuable when he writes, "We've had different types of storage, and three things of this solution are valuable. The first one is its outstanding performance. The second one is its stability. In the about three years that we've had it, we've had component failures, but we never had a service interruption or any data loss. The third one, which is really critical, is that it is super easy to use in terms of provisioning, storage, and managing the arrays. I'm able to maintain a multi-site environment with a couple of dozen arrays with a single mid-level storage admin."

Western Digital through its IntelliFlash arrays delivers high-performance storage with a complete range of features and connectivity options, including inline compression and deduplication, application and VM consistent snapshots, replication, RAID, data encryption, VMware vCenter integration, and multi-protocol support for SAN (FC, iSCSI) and NAS (NFS, SMBv3). IntelliFlash arrays deliver high availability through dualredundant and hot-swappable components, active/active or active/passive controllers, non-disruptive software upgrades, eMLC flash, and proactive cloud-based monitoring, analytics, and intelligence. A RESTful API provides scripted or programmatic control.
