Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Automated alerting and reporting excel while cost and feature limitations remain
I find automation to be one of the best and most valuable features of the product. Machine learning is incorporated into the solution, though AI is a broader term that I wouldn't apply here. I haven't personally explored AI yet, but I will investigate it. Machine learning functions more as automation in my experience, as there's no training involved yet. I want to conduct R&D on another project with Wazuh to determine how to capture usage, for example, tracking user logins and time spent. This is where I need to implement machine learning. Additionally, the extraction of GeoIP adds complexity. The solution is effectively reducing incident response times in operations.

Has supported consistent deployment across departments but needs better OS compatibility and detection performance
I am not really looking for a new solution, actually, I was preparing for an interview and wanted to have a comparison between both tools. I have not worked with any of these products before, but we had a training demonstration yesterday with Dynatrace, and I have investigated the Wiz solution better. In terms of experience, it will be my first time with CDR. I am working with something for EDR, specifically, we have an EDR, it's VMware Carbon Black Cloud. They have a hybrid environment, both on-prem and cloud. I would usually recommend this product for big companies, because it's not cheap, so only big companies would I expect to pay for that. The review rating for VMware Carbon Black Cloud is 6 out of 10.

Pros

"The dashboard is customizable."
"It detected stuff that other things wouldn't detect."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks's ability to block sophisticated threats in real time is quite good and is on par with SentinelOne's."
"The most valuable features are incident creation, policy-based protection, IP whitelisting, and device encryption. These are beneficial for endpoint and server security."
"The good thing about the product is that it's always scanning."
"Palo Alto is the best security solution in the market."
"The anti-exploit is impenetrable."
"The protection offered by this product is good, as is the endpoint reporting."
"We have found the solution has great functionality and it is easy to use."
"The integration capabilities of ConnectWise SIEM are off the shelf, making it easy to buy and use; you just unpack it and use it."
"One valuable feature of ConnectWise Fortify is the ability to add other teams and receive notifications when customers make changes or remove multi-factor authentication in Microsoft or SAP environments."
"Integration and scalability are the most valuable."
"They're highly stable in comparison with other solutions I have."
"Carbon Black insures the probability that any ransomware will be stopped before spreading."
"The ability to isolate an endpoint with only the host name and a click of a button is a major time saver."
"The most valuable features are the threat-hunting and the batch console."
"Threat hunting is the most valuable feature of VMware Carbon Black Cloud."
"The detection response and quarantining are very good features."
"The most valuable feature of VMware Carbon Black Cloud is the possibility of securing any PC worldwide."

Cons

"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks could improve by offering remote management. It would be useful to look at the client's issue to fix it."
"I think sometimes Cortex XDR agent automatically stops event capturing from the device, and then even the dashboard does not get any notifications from the agent."
"There's an overall lack of features."
"For working with the solution, you only really need a web browser, however, we've found that working on Chrome, for example, is horrible."
"The solution needs better reports. I think they should let the customer go in and customize the reports."
"The only issues that we have are, one the cost, two the dashboard is not very intuitive, even though you can drill down within the dashboard, we usually have to gather information from other sources to determine locations and if its a false positive."
"It would be good to have a better way to search for a file within the UI."
"Enhancing UI simplicity and playbook flexibility are areas that could benefit from more low-code automation options for smoother integrations."
"The manage portion of the solution is complicated and should be simplified by having different versions to meet the needs of different size companies."
"ConnectWise Fortify could work on covering more areas, like phishing messages, which have become more complicated to detect."
"ConnectWise SIEM is primarily focused on notifications and is limited in that aspect, while Wazuh can automate the elimination process."
"One area for improvement is the maturity of its vulnerability features."
"The support team of Carbon Black CB Response needs improvement. At present, they need a lot of information. Then they give you an answer that they already gave you. You tell them it didn't work, and then they take a long time."
"The biggest issue I encountered was one where old logs were not being overwritten as expected so the system drive kept filling up from time to time. However, support was usually quite responsive and happy to jump on a remote session to take a look at it for us. That log bug has probably been resolved with an update by now."
"We are subscribed to FS-ISAC threat indicator, but have been unsuccessful in adding it to our alliance feeds."
"The solution needs to simplify the process of adding custom watchlists, as well as embrace YARA for rule creation."
"I recall we couldn't upgrade because the sensor was not compatible, and the latest VMware Carbon Black Cloud version was not compatible with the latest Red Hat version, so we couldn't actually update since it's a security tool, and it does not allow us to update."
"Setup is incredibly complex and poorly documented."
"They have different products, but if we wanted to take their protection and their EPR, then we would need to have two agents"

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is present, but when compared to other competitive products, I would say it is not less expensive; however, when all of the other added values are considered, the price is reasonable."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is an expensive solution."
"I am using the Community edition."
"Cortex XDR's pricing is ok."
"The pricing seems fair, and I do like the licensing model. You use wherever they are, and it is elastic."
"The cost depends on your chosen license type, like Pro or other licenses."
"It's way too expensive, but security is expensive. You pay for your licensing, and then you pay for someone to monitor the stuff."
"I don't like that they have different types of licenses."
"The solution is expensive."
"VMware Carbon Black Cloud is an expensive solution."
"Purchase Professional Services up front as part of the implementation package, then renew hours annually to ensure you have adequate support for upgrades and enhancements. Overbuy by at least 10% to account for infrastructure growth."
"We had no issues purchasing through our preferred reseller and were able to get a fair price even when not purchasing direct. Carbon Black Enterprise Response didn’t break the bank, though adding on the matching antivirus and anti-malware components of the Protect product was more than we could afford, even with some discounting. Cb Response is really designed to complement Carbon Black’s Defense product. While Response can be used on its own, coupling with Defense seems like the best strategy if you can afford the price tag."
"The solution is very inexpensive so there is great cost savings to using it."
"You need to pay for the licensing of the product. The pricing is costly."
"Pricing for this solution could be made lower."
