I wouldn't want the interface to go towards the web because they did have a version that was inside of the TruView product. It was more web-based and, to me, the web-based applications lose the robustness of the intimacy of a true character interface. I liked that they were on that path and I hope that they stay on that path because it just looks like it's a better product. I would like to see a multi-user version where you can have a launch platform and, potentially, instead of buying six licenses you buy 12 seats or something like that. From a centralized platform, you could have multiple users using that particular product in a series of different ways. That's what I'd like to see, rather than having everybody running a standalone one on their own workstation.

Detects suden changes but significant pricing concerns affect the effectiveness of network traffic troubleshooting
We use PRTG Network Monitor for monitoring traffic on interfaces and the behavior of network traffic. If there are sudden changes in traffic or any configuration issues, we can sort them out using PRTG. It's very helpful for troubleshooting and monitoring traffic utilization on our interfaces…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"What ClearSight will do is it actually maps out the conversation for you."
"The real-time monitoring feature in PRTG is invaluable to me"
"It allows us to directly add individual VMs independently."
"PRTG Network Monitor is easy to set up. Within a few minutes, it is operational."
"The remote probes are very useful. They allow us to provide a reference across different areas in the network. In trying to localize issues, that's very useful."
"Speed of deployment is one of the most valuable features."
"PRTG Network Monitor is a very stable product."
"I found PRTG Network Monitor very useful for troubleshooting and monitoring the utilization of either the network or server."
"The solution provides us response times to issues."

Cons

"I would like to see a multi-user version where you can have a launch platform and, potentially, instead of buying six licenses you buy 12 seats or something like that."
"The clustering aspect needs improvement, as there is a bit of confusion about you do when hit that 5000 probe mark."
"In our organization, we encounter performance issues with our PRTG probe service. I saw documentation from the vendor or Paessler mentioning that there are limitations for WMI sensors. Other than that, we are okay with PRTG."
"The licensing policy needs more flexibility."
"In the next release, PRTG Network Monitor should add a backup solution."
"PRTG Network Monitor can improve Layer 2 and Layer 3 network maps and the GUI more user-friendly. Additionally, they should bundle the features so I can monitor everything on one particular device."
"If PRTG could help me see the bandwidth for each host I have on my network, either for a wireless or a wired network, that would be very helpful."
"When using PRTG Network Monitor it is beneficial if you have prior experience with it, the user interface could improve."
"More training videos for installing and configuring this software would have been nice, especially when working with a lot of devices."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was pretty modest because you could get it in different ways. I think the six licenses, at that time, were about $1,000 each. But then again, I work for a school and educators tend to get discounts on things. So maybe it cost us about five or six hundred a copy."
"We've got 1,000 nodes and I believe it's a few hundred quid a month."
"We have an unlimited perpetual license, so we just pay support costs and it can scale throughout the organization."
"We are using the basic PRTG that we can download for free. For now, we only need to monitor less than 100 devices. For more than 100 devices, we would need to buy a license. PRTG is much cheaper than SolarWinds."
"I'm paying something like €1000 per year for the maintenance. I've got unlimited sensors."
"I would like better pricing models for smaller businesses. The free version is fantastic, but it's too restrictive. If they could just get up to 200 sensors for a reasonable fee for on-premise, I would give PRTG my credit card right now."
"I rate the price of PRTG Network Monitor an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is a high price, and ten is a low price."
"It's an annual license that is based on the number of endpoints that we're tracking and using."
"I rate the licensing for PRTG Network Monitor an eight out of ten."
