Has enabled centralized user management and improved wireless access point aggregation
To improve Cisco Wireless, the ports on the access points are all 100 Meg, not 1 gig. We have not gotten a gigabyte interface of about 1,000, but the controller we have is just 1 gig. We would prefer if we could increase the controller to a 10 gig interface because we want to connect our controller to a 10 gig interface, which currently limits us to 1 gig. When we want to move higher capacity data via wireless, it limits us to 1 gig.

Customers are increasingly focusing on seamless roaming between Dell Ruckus access points. They want to know how quickly and reliably their devices can switch connections as they move around, minimizing downtime and disruptions. Specifically, they are interested in the frequency and aggressiveness of roaming protocols, ensuring smooth transitions without disconnecting from the network. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We've found the technical support to be helpful and responsive."
"The product is reliable."
"Cisco is great due to the fact that there is so much documentation online."
"The license and prices are great."
"One of the main advantages of Cisco Wireless is its DNAT compatibility."
"Good manageability, and stability."
"Their manageability is very good."
"The most valuable feature of Cisco Wireless is the bridging capability."
"My advice for anybody who is considering this solution is that they do not need to complete a proof of concept."

Cons

"Code stability is something that needs to be improved."
"There are areas for improvement with Cisco Wireless, as well as with wireless technology in general. For instance, while Wi-Fi 6 offers significant advancements, some unresolved issues and quirks have delayed our migration to this standard."
"Apple is definitely causing a lot of issues by turning on more security features on its equipment. It is causing more problems on the business side. One is what they call a randomized Mac address that Apple has put out. As far as I know, Cisco doesn't have a fix for that."
"The licensing models need to be reviewed in some instances. Obviously Cisco's licensing models are quite challenging, and it can be costly."
"I've found that the media stream and Mojo settings are not sufficiently supported."
"It's very scalable, but when you shift gears sometimes, you have to do more work than people anticipate."
"The technical support could be better. They aren't as helpful as they need to be when we run into issues."
"What my company doesn't like about the product is related to the coverage it provides to access points, an area which is one of the most important ones for us."
"The security needs to be improved because we have had problems with people accessing our network using the VPN."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I think that the solution is expensive because the customer has to pay for a full year, at a minimum, in up-front costs."
"Cisco is more on the expensive side, as compared to Aruba, but I must say Cisco's quality is unmatched, for sure."
"The product is expensive."
"There are no subscription fees."
"Its licensing is hard to understand."
"They have simplified the licensing, now there is a single license that is required. Earlier, multiple licenses were required. Single licensing is good. As a customer, I don't need to keep an inventory of multiple licenses."
"Its cost is a little bit higher than other products. Fortinet and Huawei are cheaper. If we were not a bank, I would go for Huawei or Fortinet because they are cheap, and I don't need that much security. A financial institute, a university, or a medical institute would need security to protect the customer data. That's why we buy this high-end product that has integrated security features."
"Expensive."
