Network segmentation has improved security and performance across all departments
Cisco Ethernet Switches offer various features such as L3 capable models which help me with my routing requirements, OSPF, EIGRP, and VRF for segmentation, as well as policy-based routing. Additionally, it provides a high layer of enterprise security via 802.1X port-based authentication, DHCP snooping, ARP inspection, IP Guard, ACLs, and integration with Cisco ISE. I have been using Cisco Ethernet Switches for more than four years, and they have provided me stability, better connectivity, and higher speed. My organization values these switches greatly.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution can scale."
"The quality of service is one of the main reasons we use Cisco in our organization. It's quite high and very reliable. The switches also end up working for a long time, so there's less need to replace them as often as others. We have some switches in our company that has been running since 2006, for example. They are quite old, but they still work."
"I have many models, and some models are older than 20 years; they have worked up to now, and we have used the newest versions for about five years."
"Very stable solution with a very low failure rate."
"It has 24 x gigabit SFP + 8 x SFP ports, MAC address table size 96k entries, routing protocol RIP-2, EIGRP, operates on DC -48/-60 V power, supports remote management protocols SNMP 1, SNMP 2, RMON, Telnet, SNMP 3, complies with multiple IEEE standards, has RAM of 768 MB (installed) / 2 GB (max) and a flash memory of 192 MB, and includes the Cisco IOS IP Base software."
"Cisco Switches serve their purpose; they add value to the virtual workload, and you can tap into all of the features for your virtual workload environment."
"Cisco appeared to be the more easy to operate through the years regarding the stability of the product series, the CLI, support and documentation."
"It has improved the network reliability, it has improved the network availability which results to improved productivity of the users (Increased ROI)."
"I would recommend these switches because they are good, although they are very expensive."
"This is a big telco switch with six slots."
"Enterasys Ethernet Switches are stable."

Cons

"The stability of the recent iOS is not good, and every now and then, there are bugs."
"From a system integrator's perspective, Cisco must train system integrators, partners, and customers about their services."
"One thing we did have to work around is, on the broadcast side, we're reliant on the PTP protocol, precision time protocol, and the Cisco switches in general, don't support that."
"Cisco licensing is a little bit confusing and the cost is also high, but I am satisfied with the cost."
"Cisco should consider adding a GUI as most vendors now offer the ability to manage switches via a graphical user interface, while Cisco switches are managed using pure CLI."
"The user interface, the UI, could be better."
"Cisco's equipment is expensive, especially since it introduced the obligatory purchase of Cisco DNA."
"It could be cheaper. It'll also help if it can support more network utilization."
"I have seen a lot of problems with Enterasys switches. There were some parts that were failing a lot and I don't know why."
"Enterasys could provide better support, needs an improved user interface and improved performance."
"The initial setup could be made simpler."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is a bit on the high side."
"Cisco offers annual and three-year license options."
"The product is expensive."
"These switches are expensive, but they are an excellent buy and definitely have value for the investment."
"Its price is very high, but it is a good device. Cisco must work on its price. Other solutions provide a better price for similar functionalities."
"When we want an extra feature then we need to purchase another license bundle."
"Quality comes at a price. I've been around the block a bit, and I know that good quality comes at a price. However, some of the organizations don't have big budgets, so you have to develop different solutions for them. They don't have the budget to get some of the high-end features. Cisco can consider providing entry-level hardware to suit SMBs."
"The pricing is reasonable, and for small business it is acceptable."
"These switches are very expensive compared to those from other vendors."
