Easy to use, good sub-capacity licensing, and helpful support
It matches with the ILMT tool. We're trying to validate the licensing for IBM software.  We're using the permanent discovery tool for septic for hardware and software too. For IBM, we have to use that due to the reporting of sub-capacity licenses. It's mostly easy to use. The sub-capacity…

Collects good information from each workstation pertaining to all of the components of the network
I would recommend this product to people considering it as long as they were only going to be using it for a local area network only. In that case, it is a great solution at a great price. On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate GFI LanGuard as an eight out of ten. The thing that I learned using this product is that you need to be very organized and fastidious in order to make the most of the tool and get the full clear picture of your network.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is patch management, a must have, even for Linux and iOS."
"It has plugins development options, which are great."
"The best feature of BigFix is its multi-platform support."
"The most valuable and essential features of BigFix are all of them, they are needed when serving the purpose of the desktop operation framework. We cannot run operations without patching or without having an appropriate mechanism for deploying software, et cetera. The features all serve their purpose for our use case."
"Almost every feature is wonderful in BigFix. It is very stable, and we can rely on it. It is an awesome tool."
"Before we had BigFix, we had problems with some malware. BigFix allows us to immediately patch all instances of endpoints that were vulnerable to antivirus and initiate scans. That's key."
"The most valuable feature is the patching."
"The tool's most valuable features are patching and integration with vulnerability scanners."
"This product is a great solution at a great price as long as it is only going to be used for a local area network."
"The most valuable features of GFI LanGuard are the vulnerability assessment, it provides us with substantial insight into what applications are running on the endpoint systems and what vulnerabilities are there in the running applications. The second would be the assets tracking. I'm able to see in the network whether my endpoint server is operating and if all the other IT equipment is running in the environment. Additionally, GFI LanGuard is not heavy on system resources. It gives a competitive advantage over others."
"The initial setup was easy."
"The solution is easy to use and integrates well with other operating systems."
"It is helpful to patch and scan vulnerabilities."
"The most useful features of GFI LanGuard are vulnerability assessment and patching solutions."
"The most valuable feature of GFI LanGuard is its email spam feature."
"The most valuable feature is that I am able to patch third-party solutions."

Cons

"The solution needs to improve console speed. I would like to see one console that does everything. It doesn't need to have a big client console."
"It could use better integration with Hypervisor products like VMware."
"The reporting structure could be a little more simplistic. Currently, it throws too many vulnerabilities. Some of them are not needed because they are only informational and limitations, and they are not of much help. It doesn't need to show us these things."
"BigFix can improve the way machines report back to the console. In the external relay management environment, it has become more of a hybrid environment with most of the machines not being on-site. The need of having public-facing reporting items interconnected is becoming more and more crucial. In general, the reporting could use some enhancement."
"Its pricing should be improved. It is too costly."
"I want to see a solution for being able to deploy automated software to a Mac running OS X 10.13, something that's going to deal with kernel exceptions and answering prompts for user permissions for data folders and whatnot. They need to really streamline and automate the Mac software deployment."
"License management isn't quite as easy as it should be to deal with the licensing. You need to take the server down to import the new licenses which I find to be annoying."
"The reporting and dashboard parts have room for improvement."
"The documentation on how to use this solution in a Linux environment is not clear, which is something that should be improved because it is complicated."
"When you want to uninstall software from an endpoint, sometimes it becomes very problematic."
"The only drawback with GFI LanGuard is that you cannot directly integrate it from the Outlook email; instead, you have to first log in to the site to make changes."
"If GFI LanGuard had a cloud version it would be better for people that are working from home."
"GFI LanGuard could improve the rollback feature. If we have installed the wrong we have had some issues with the rollback function. Additionally, more input from GFI LanGuard for the custom software push install."
"GFI LanGuard can improve by adding asset tracking."
"The version we are using only allows one person to use it at a time and does not allow multi-users."
"This solution is limited to the local area network only and cannot manage remote devices."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"On a scale from one to ten, where one is expensive and ten is cheap, I rate the solution's pricing one out of ten."
"It might be about $23 a client."
"The price of BigFix is better than the solutions. You are able to pay monthly or annually. There are not any hidden costs with BigFix. There is an additional cost for the SQL database."
"I would stay with the Managed Virtual Server license model, which is a 1-to-1 license per OS whether it is virtual or physical."
"We have a subscription-based contract with BigFix."
"So, the pricing is slightly more expensive than the others. I have to keep buying licenses every time I add a new device."
"The product is less costly when compared to other solutions, and this is a good solid solution for what we have paid."
"Compliance, inventory, and licensing are really pricey. They should lower the price. It discourages users from getting onboard."
"We are a gold partner and we receive favorable discounts. The price of GFI LanGuard is competitive. When you evaluate other solutions, such as ManageEngine."
"GFI LanGuard has very fair pricing compared to other similar solutions out there."
"GFI LanGuard cost approximately $1,000 annually to use the solution."
"I rate the pricing of GFI LanGuard a four out of five."
"GFI LanGuard isn't expensive."
"On a scale of one to five, with one being expensive and five being competitive, I would rate the price as a four."
