We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's a single, integrated platform and that is very important because the more tools that you can build into one product suite, the easier it is for your engineering staff to learn it.""The network flow piece is the most useful. We can identify the busiest parts of the network based on the reporting from the switches about what is utilizing the most bandwidth on specific switch ports. I can narrow down which segments of the network might be having issues.""I love that Auvik can automatically back up the configuration of switches and firewalls.""The best feature is the ease of setup. Auvik immediately scans and finds everything. It automatically connects to multiple devices with a single set of credentials.""It shows all my devices and it shows everything that is possibly connected to the network... It gives me how many devices or switches are connected, and what is connected to each switch, including how many printers are on it.""The first feature that I appreciate is the topology drawing in real time. If our NOC wants to troubleshoot, they can go to the topology map and see that this access point is connected to that switch via that specific port. And when something changes in the topology, it's dynamically updated.""The SNMP discovery features are impressive; few products are as robust in their abilities, and it discovered objects I didn't think it would.""The extensive personalization and customization options are great because it lets me do a lot. I can set up different permission structures, assign various staff members read-only access and others full access, and customize my notifications."

"The most valuable features of Darktrace are the tracing of unusual external emails and monitoring the local network.""t was pretty as far as the granularity of what you were getting out of it.""I have used multiple solutions, but its graphical user interface is quite interesting and quite descriptive. There are a lot of video animations, and we can easily see how the data is transferred between various points. That's something really interesting. It is also quite easy to understand for a new user.""It is autonomous. So, it learns. It uses algorithms and AI to learn the common behavioral patterns on the network, and it is able to identify threats based on abnormal patterns.""The product can scale.""The most valuable feature is that it gives us visibility of rogue traffic that is on the network.""The most valuable feature of Darktrace and the most valuable feature is the artificial intelligence module because that is the tool that determines automatically if there is any risk or not in the network.""The platform has many modules, and each module examines a different situation in the behavior."

Cons
"A feature I'd like to see is a stat breakdown of our networks at the end of every month, showing package drop rates for each network and so on. For example, this data delivered in an email would be a good feature.""I like the auto-mapping feature, but I would like to see more layouts and predefined views.""Sometimes it's a little bit slow to load, but I can't think of anything else that could be improved.""Their system is a little difficult because it shows a lot of LANs and it's a little difficult to find each device. In our system, we have over 20 devices showing and it really takes a long time when I want to find a particular device. If it's easier to use, it will improve work efficiency.""It requires a lot of hands-on maintenance when it comes to cleanup. That's probably the biggest problem I've had, because I don't have a dedicated resource to manually clean up stale records. I have a customer where it shows 4,000 devices because of the duplication of devices that I have to clean up.""I don't know if it has integrations with ticketing systems so that alerts would get to the ticketing system right away. That would be a good feature to add.""The price shouldn't be an issue for a larger organization, but a smaller organization or an MSP might struggle because the billing is per device. You're paying for your firewalls and devices that appear on the network. If you have a smaller organization with an extensive network, your revenue won't be able to support that cost. That's probably the biggest downside for me.""I want to see improvement around backups; we had a case where we created a ticket for online support, and they were able to set up backups for one of our devices, but they were unwilling to do the same backup script with a different device. The script uses the same code, just a different model number, and the engineers weren't willing to add it to the other model."

More Auvik Cons →

"It's a very complex platform.""The cost is a bit on the higher side.""There is a high ratio of false positive information.""It takes time to go through the interface and pick up things. If it were a more straightforward interface, then it would free up time.""It's quite expensive to have.""I would like to see some additional enhancements.""The pricing is a bit high for the region.""I would like to see a feature where the tool ingests information from an anti-malware product that is present at the endpoint."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I'd say Auvik's price is reasonable. I don't know how much we paid for the old one, so I can't compare the two. But I think it's a good value, considering all the time saved and the information you can get from it."
  • "Another reason that we picked Auvik was that its pricing is very good. The only non-open-source solution that had better pricing was PRTG, but Auvik had it beat in ease of use. All-around, Auvik has a really great price for the market."
  • "Auvik is definitely one of the more expensive platforms. It is not cheap at all. If cost is an issue, Auvik isn't on the table at all, but they do have a fantastic solution for the cost. If budget isn't a concern, they are probably the market leader. We migrated away from it to a competitor called Domotz because of pricing. Auvik bills per what they call a billable device, which is a firewall, a switch, and a controller. All of those count as billable devices. Domotz, as an alternative, bills per site. It's a flat fee for the whole site. So, whether you've got 3 switches or 10 switches, it's the same cost."
  • "Its pricing is definitely competitive with everything else that's out there. If somebody has not shopped for a product like Auvik for a while, there's probably going to be some sticker shock because it is not cheap, but that's true for all the products that we looked at."
  • "Auvik is not cheap. They've done a great job, it's a developed product, but you pay for it. When you compare, it's definitely in the upper-tier of pricing."
  • "The billing is excellent. The way they bill it, in most environments, it's not that expensive. The billing is very cost-effective."
  • "I love the pricing. It makes a lot of sense. It allows you to use your own metal, which is great because it enables us to go higher-end for some clients and lower-end for others... Even having the flexibility to switch clients between the Performance (expert) and the Essentials (simple) version of Auvik, on the fly, is really unheard of."
  • "I would love to be able to get into the tier with the sys logging and the NetFlow/sFlow. That tier is a little bit expensive for us. If that could come down a little bit in price, we would be using that everywhere."

  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "It is pretty expensive, but it is worth it. Its licensing is yearly."
  • "The cost of the solution is expensive for smaller businesses. They will not be able to afford it or might not need this type of security solution."
  • "If you consider the features and the cost of market leaders, we are satisfied with the pricing."
  • "All of the other modules, such as the licensing modules, are on par. It's one for one."
  • "The pricing is expensive. It costs over $100,000 a year."
  • "Prior to negotiating, Darktrace offered their appliance and service for $80,000 per year."
  • "It is expensive."
