Visual Git workflow has streamlined branching and commits but still needs better performance
The best features Atlassian SourceTree offers is that you can see the entire branch structure laid out clearly, which makes it much easier to understand what's going on across a project. Atlassian SourceTree has positively impacted my organization because benefits add up over a year when you're bringing in new developers regularly. Avoiding merge disasters has real value. Even one bad merge that takes half a day to untangle costs more than the tool would if it wasn't free. The return on investment is significant.

Configuration management features improve workflow but require a steep learning curve
I need to work more with Helix Core to identify specific areas for improvement. However, it has an extensive feature set that leads to a steep learning curve, where users need to learn quite a bit of features to work with it effectively. While its customization is not an issue, the GUI might not appeal to everyone.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Atlassian SourceTree is a very stable product."
"The solution's initial setup process is straightforward."
"This product has helped because we have been able to fix problems when our code repository breaks."
"The interface is very good and is easy to use. It tells you when you've committed, when you've uploaded, and gives you the differences."
"I was doing a very complex file change merge using SourceTree and it took me less than half of the time I estimated."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to fix a broken repository merge."
"For me, the branches ' graph was the most valuable feature of Atlassian SourceTree. I often used the terminal, but during a demo, my boss preferred I not switch to the terminal view. SourceTree's graphical interface for managing branches was handy for that. The demo involved making changes, committing them, pushing to the CI/CD tool, running the pipeline, and seeing the integration, all within about twenty minutes."
"Avoiding merge disasters has real value."
"I find the configuration management features of Helix Core particularly valuable."
"The excellent traceability of all changes made to the product and the support for collaborative work."
"Perforce has given us the capability to manage our deployments on different environments."
"The code comparison functionality and the command line options for automation are valuable features."
"Perforce is very fast, even for very huge assets."
"Technical support for routine issues and tutoring beginners is absolutely the best."
"The customer service and support are excellent."

Cons

"People think that Visual Studio Code is more intuitive and can serve dual purposes for development and as a client to push or pull code."
"The UI can be improved because it is not always so easy to find the functionality you are looking for."
"For everyday use, I am more comfortable using the command line interface, rather than using SourceTree."
"I have had a food experience with Atlassian SourceTree but it might not be for everyone."
"The main issue for improving Atlassian SourceTree is performance."
"The product's UI needs improvement."
"Its interface could be easy to understand for a programmer."
"The visuals, including the UI and UX, have simple fonts, making it an area where certain enhancements can be done."
"The part of Perforce that could be most improved is its automatic resolving of code merge conflicts."
"However, it has an extensive feature set that leads to a steep learning curve, where users need to learn quite a bit of features to work with it effectively."
"Perforce does not appear to have an enterprise scale software test environment. We sometimes serve as their software QA department."
"There are scalability issues when there is too much traffic, such as when there are extremely huge amount of calls by APIs."
"It scales well, but installation and server management gets technically very complicated when the installation grows."
"The offline versioning needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a fee for using SourceTree."
"I do not recall the exact pricing details for SourceTree, but generally, Atlassian products are affordable, and SourceTree typically comes as part of a suite."
