Helps me be proactive in solving a customer's problem before it even happens
This is a new solution by HP. It's less than two years, we're among the first to implement the solution, so I'm sure that there is a lot of room for enhancement and continuous improvement in the future. They have added a new feature, which was not part of the solution, which is they support what they call hybrid apps; before, it was only supporting native. That is something they work with your R & D, whereby they support this feature in the parent version of AppPulse.

Dashboards facilitate prompt alerts but discovery feature needs enhancement
I would recommend Broadcom DX Application Performance Management if a customer doesn't have any existing performance solution. However, ten years ago, the solution was better, and now there are many competitive options. My overall rating would be between six and seven. The product rating I would give is 6.5 out of 10.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The speed that you can get AppPulse out there was the brightest spot of this whole process."
"It identifies transactions and flows of the operations that our customers use with our mobile application."
"I tested other products but HP offers the best bang for the buck."
"The support that we get from HP is tremendous compared to other HP support – lots of good people that can give answers."
"The benefits are the ease of integration into OMI, the speed of the deployment, and the quick ROI in value that it adds in a space where we were kind of flying blind before we had it."
"For us it is easy; it is friendly and it has information that is important for the business."
"The application is easy to use, as it is friendly and graphic."
"With Google Analytics, you choose what performance metrics you want to have reported, but with AppPulse Mobile, you have a global vision of what is really happening inside your app."
"What's most valuable about this solution is that it completely monitors code-level visibility."
"Very powerful and flexible suite of tools which provide great insight into application and network performance."
"It covers from mainframe, all the way to dotcom, for example. CA currently covers Amazon, Microsoft Azure, Office 365 monitoring."
"Operations are able to view the performance of their applications and the real-user experience in business transactions, all through a single solution, CA Application Performance Management."
"I think that the most important feature is the freedom to construct the workloads for the database size we need according to number of users, data, and other criteria."
"After we started using APM in our environment, we managed to reduce the creation of these rooms by 90%."
"It should enable you to see the usage and performance of all application dependencies like databases, web services, caching, etc."
"The solution gives us the flexibility to create new metrics and measure whatever we need."

Cons

"Currently, the information for management teams and technical teams are in the same view, but it would be useful if we could separate these views."
"We are using AppPulse, but not as extensively as we expected, due to the limitations and the regulations that we have to meet."
"I think they can improve the feature that identifies the operating systems, the brand of the devices, the response time, geolocalization."
"I would love if AppPulse delivered more details about my users, for example, age and sex. It could split up the users into categories based on how frequently they use my product."
"The only other thing that would come to mind is the ability to get CI information from AppPulse into OMi."
"However, false positives is definitely something you will need to watch out for."
"In the next release, I would like to see heat-map tracking."
"I would like to see more reporting and analytics."
"One of the areas that I think needs improvement is the central management of the agents."
"Some of which are the inability to manage multiple hosts at the same time, configure agents in an easy fashion."
"What comes to mind when you speak of a room for improvement in Broadcom DX Application Performance Management is the infrastructure agent, but my company doesn't use it, so I can't say if it's really a problem or not, but it could be the container support or cloud support that could be improved in the solution. An additional feature I'd like to see in the next release of Broadcom DX Application Performance Management is for it to have one agent for cloud and one agent for legacy, with all features included."
"Issues with the workstation interface which could be more productive."
"When we made the upgrade to 10.3 we have some problems with the new version."
"User management for these tools is poor and we have found the EEM product to help with this to be quite flaky."
"They tried to streamline the organization, that was the initial point of using APM. It led to so many internal changes, but it didn’t affect the organization much at all in the end."
"Technical support is 7/10. It needs to be more proactive."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was a no-brainer from a cost perspective compared to the other tools that we buy as an IT organization."
"Depends on the size of the product you need."
"The license for Broadcom DX Application Performance Management is annual. The licensing model could improve because there is not any limit to deploying the agent, there should be some limits on it."
"Setup costs are quite competitive relative to other solutions, and simpler."
"Dynatrace is the most expensive of these tools followed by AppDynamics which is "medium-expensive." CA APM is a bit lower in price than either Dynatrace or AppDynanics... In my opinion, if you can afford it, go for AppDynamics instead of CA APM."
"It is definitely expensive for what we get, but there isn't an alternate option at the moment."
"Broadcom is a better and cheaper option from the financial perspective. It also depends on the DLP plug."
"Negotiate a lot, but do not forget to buy the product because it is worth it."
"Pricing and licensing are not issues."
