Helps me be proactive in solving a customer's problem before it even happens
This is a new solution by HP. It's less than two years, we're among the first to implement the solution, so I'm sure that there is a lot of room for enhancement and continuous improvement in the future. They have added a new feature, which was not part of the solution, which is they support what they call hybrid apps; before, it was only supporting native. That is something they work with your R & D, whereby they support this feature in the parent version of AppPulse.

Dashboards facilitate prompt alerts but discovery feature needs enhancement
I would recommend Broadcom DX Application Performance Management if a customer doesn't have any existing performance solution. However, ten years ago, the solution was better, and now there are many competitive options. My overall rating would be between six and seven. The product rating I would give is 6.5 out of 10.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We launched the Take It app in France last June, and we had 10,000 active users, five percent of our users experienced crashes, so we decided to add AppPulse Mobile to our app, and crashes dropped from five to 0.44 percent while during the same time period our users jumped to 120,000."
"Customer are able to develop more quickly versions in which users can see the application to correct and monetize it."
"We provide software testing services to third-party organizations with HP AppPulse, where we can see the real user experience live and identify low UI performance, stability problems, or high resource consumption on one screen."
"What we learned is that the analytics are more important than the app itself."
"This product has many valuable features, and it is very important for us to identify the response time, identify the different operating systems, the brand of the smart phones, and where customers are using them - not only in Mexico, but in different parts of the world."
"AppPulse Active allows us to very quickly produce synthetic monitoring for our applications, for some applications we've never been able to monitor before, some older legacy applications."
"The FunDex is a valuable feature for our organization."
"With Google Analytics, you choose what performance metrics you want to have reported, but with AppPulse Mobile, you have a global vision of what is really happening inside your app."
"Some of the things that are starting to be interesting is being able to pull in and merge the infrastructure and application data."
"The usability and dashboarding are valuable because that is how our clients see the information, and deep trace analysis is valuable because that is how we figure out where our problems are."
"The solution is very stable."
"We had for several applications performance issues and with Introscope we were in many cases able to pin-point the bottlenecks and debrief them to the development organization to improve their applications."
"CA APM is very scalable and used in a clustered environment because it supports more than its technical capacity."
"Detailed alert settings give more control on when they should or should not appear."
"The configuration and the manager tool are good features."
"This tool has saved the organization a lot of money, and I can see an improvement by a minimum of 3% in performance of any given application."

Cons

"I think they can improve the feature that identifies the operating systems, the brand of the devices, the response time, geolocalization."
"I would love if AppPulse delivered more details about my users, for example, age and sex. It could split up the users into categories based on how frequently they use my product."
"However, false positives is definitely something you will need to watch out for."
"We are using AppPulse, but not as extensively as we expected, due to the limitations and the regulations that we have to meet."
"I would like to see more reporting and analytics."
"The only other thing that would come to mind is the ability to get CI information from AppPulse into OMi."
"There are some cases where the product cannot perform an analysis initially, and this may be a stability issue."
"There are some things I look forward to – alerts, service level management calculations, API so I can get the data from somewhere else rather than just the website, customizable time frame so I can adjust the date and time."
"We have had stability issues."
"Probe-based network appliance: Add more protocols (currently only supports TCP, HTTP and HTTPS) Software / Consoles / Dashboards"
"Compared to other tools, the technical support is not good."
"Technical support is slow to respond and also asks redundant questions."
"Initial setup was very hard due to lack of proper phrasing and instructions in manuals."
"The reason it's not a ten is because they don't focus enough on improving over time like other competitors do who have a more modern and complete tool."
"Upgradability to it is a project instead of a patch. If it was actually an automated process to where it just fed updates to our product that would be great. Now, we have to spin up an effort to actually upgrade the solution."
"We ran into all kinds of problems and most of it was because of just the onboarding as our new-product education was a huge issue."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was a no-brainer from a cost perspective compared to the other tools that we buy as an IT organization."
"The license for Broadcom DX Application Performance Management is annual. The licensing model could improve because there is not any limit to deploying the agent, there should be some limits on it."
"The licensing costs are expensive."
"There is some research needed to determine licensing costs, based on the number of DataPower instances for the Nastel agent, for example."
"Dynatrace is the most expensive of these tools followed by AppDynamics which is "medium-expensive." CA APM is a bit lower in price than either Dynatrace or AppDynanics... In my opinion, if you can afford it, go for AppDynamics instead of CA APM."
"Pricing and licensing are not issues."
"Althougth it is a bit expensive, it is really worth it"
"Setup costs are quite competitive relative to other solutions, and simpler."
"On pricing, CA is very competitive. I think that's going to help in the long run."
