Experience enables seamless automation and elevates process efficiency while embracing innovative technologies
The features of Appian that have proven to be the most beneficial are its capability to create processes and integrate with external systems while ensuring data consistency across all the systems. The latest features of Appian are quite useful around the UI/UX design and the artificial intelligence integrations. Appian is aiding in leveraging AI technologies in multiple ways: one way is for developers, as they make development efficient and quick by enabling developer co-pilots across various phases of the application, which helps design Appian quickly and provides suggestions along the way. Another way is through AI Skills, which can be integrated anywhere in the process model to leverage artificial intelligence for tasks such as extracting data from documents, summarizing information from documents or long paragraphs, and building custom prompts with Appian. Appian also utilizes AI for business users, providing a feature called process each view, enabling business users to create their own dashboards, reports, and gain insights from their data and processes using artificial intelligence. It's multi-fold and always growing.

Has faced challenges adapting to evolving capture methods and competitive integrations
It's difficult to say what I'd improve in Tungsten TotalAgility because we haven't been actively marketing that particular product in the last probably six to nine months. The speed of product development means that my experience with it is likely out of date in terms of the product suite capabilities. The difficulty with customers nowadays is that they are subject to the winds of change in terms of the adoption of cloud technologies and the offerings those cloud technologies bring. Microsoft, for instance, is rapidly filling in the spaces between various product areas that other vendors typically owned. That makes it difficult for customers to settle on their functional requirements because the offers are competing in the same space. I look for more integration with mainstream subscription based platforms, more security integration, and possibly some more lifecycle management features. However, the difficulty with that is the competition with existing options that people have in their subscription library.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The valuable features include process automation, Appian Portal, and Appian RPA."
"Appian also has very flexible local integration."
"Appian is a very low code platform. It's very easy to learn and use."
"The tool is very flexible."
"The initial setup is easy."
"There is no need to worry about vulnerabilities in the system, because Appian built a secure system."
"Appian's most valuable features are the quick time it takes to develop for the market. It's easy and faster than other BPM solutions."
"Recently, we added Appian Process Mining, Appian Portals, and now Appian RPA."
"Essentially, Kofax TotalAgility as a whole is quite nice. As of now, we've only been able to use and explore its document classification and extraction capabilities. We haven't explored and used the case management capability yet, but the scan and capture capabilities we've been using heavily and those are quite good. Our solutions are mainly around those areas of Kofax TotalAgility. We haven't explored the product a lot, but the capabilities we've explored are good."
"What I find most valuable in Kofax TotalAgility is its OCR feature. I also find its workflow and business process management capabilities valuable. Kofax TotalAgility also has good integration with other solutions and has an API call feature."
"Kofax is very easy to use, UI-friendly and allows easy data extraction."
"The product is really good, and it is easy to use. It comes with multiple integrations. The solution keeps up with the trend of Microsoft Copilot and AI."
"One feature I like is that it makes the matrix easy for an unstructured document."
"It is user-friendly and has good documentation. It's good for developing communication and has a lot of the APIs needed for this purpose. There aren't a lot of software options available from this time period; this is the only one from 2013 that has this concept of microservices."
"Its integration capabilities are valuable. It has low code/no code features. You have to do minimal coding."
"Data extraction and auto-classification are great features."

Cons

"The UI of Appian is more internal. Recently, there has been an addition of an external user portal for the customer-facing stuff. It's still coming out."
"There is no UI customization possible."
"One room for improvement is the ease of UI UX development, like in OutSystems and Mendix."
"It would be nice if you could create your own customized apps when the business needed them."
"The solution needs more features. For example, a way to connect to our viewing database, to record, and more interface and component design."
"The graphical user interface could be easier to use. It should be simplified."
"I would like to see more enhancement in the user interface to allow more freedom in designing the sites and pages."
"Even though the company has made great improvements in online documentation, featuring rich material which includes case studies of real-life use cases, the material could definitely be better in quality and coverage of use cases."
"Table line item extraction is not possible through Quick Capture."
"The product's console version is old. It should also improve its forum."
"Kofax TotalAgility could improve the OTR engine. The page OTR engine is not accurate in predicting the data properly. If you provide many features which are good for business process management without an accurate OTR engine people will not want it."
"Sometimes there isn't enough accuracy when it comes to extracts."
"Room for improvement would be better OCR functionality in terms of Arabic OCR. There should be better accuracy."
"It would be nice if the tool has more connectors to different systems. It is an expensive solution."
"Lacks sufficient inbuilt features."
"Kofax needs to improve the low-code or citizen developers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If you're doing an enterprise-wide digital transformation, Appian is worthwhile, but not for just one or two use cases because the license costs are higher."
"The license is not very cheap. It's on the expensive side."
"You can't really test the software properly without actually buying the license first."
"The cost depends on the number of users, although I recommend taking an unlimited license."
"Product pricing compared to some of the earlier vendors, like IBM, CA, and Oracle, is quite well-priced. Although, we do feel that as we increase the number of users and the workload increases, we will have to spend more."
"I think that if somebody is really serious at looking at business value, then by all means, the product is well worth the value. You get representative business value for the price that you pay for the product, and for the implementation of the product."
"It is fully managed, and I don't believe there are any additional expenses."
"It's an enterprise tool and can be used by enterprise only. So it's a very expensive tool."
"It is slightly more expensive than other tools."
"Kofax TotalAgility is very expensive."
"The licensing cost for Kofax TotalAgility is very expensive, though I'm unable to give you the range, the sales representatives of my company say that the product is quite expensive."
"The price of this solution is less than some of the competition."
"It has a perpetual license. You pay once in a lifetime for the volume of scans you will do and the number of users you will have. You can have participants or regular users, and you can have developers and administrators. So, once you purchase it, it is for a lifetime, and then every year, you have to pay for the maintenance. There is an annual maintenance cost, which is about 18% of the licensing cost."
