A straightforward setup with good technical support and good stability
Pros and Cons
  • "The user management has been very easy for the most part."
  • "The licensing costs are quite high. With the amount of hardware we have, we need too many licenses to make the product effective and it's ultimately just too costly."

What is our primary use case?

We needed some protection in our environment. We use this product in some areas in our network to monitor the security of the endpoints of our users.

What is most valuable?

The environment was easy to configure.

The user management has been very easy for the most part.

The initial setup is pretty easy.

Technical support has been very helpful.

The stability overall is good.

What needs improvement?

The licensing costs are quite high. With the amount of hardware we have, we need too many licenses to make the product effective and it's ultimately just too costly.

We may have some problems with compatibility - specifically with Cisco switches. We have the perimeter a Check Point firewall as an alarm for VPN connections. We have users integrating the VPN Check Point with Forescout. We can't seem to scale due to compatibility issues and price.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been working with the solution for around two years. It hasn't been that long. That said, we are moving away from the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Overall, the stability of the product has been very good. It doesn't crash or freeze. There aren't bugs or glitches. It's been set up very well. We've found it to be reliable and the performance is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Our issue, in terms of scalability, is that we have a brittle machine. We struggled to get the licenses loaded. We would need to change the machine in order to develop a certain level of scalability capabilities.

At the moment, we have about 100 users on the solution, however, we require more licenses. Our goal was 1000 users on devices, however, it wasn't possible. The economics were against us.

How are customer service and technical support?

While I have never personally opened a case with technical support in the past, my colleague has. He found them to be very responsive and helpful. He was satisfied with their level of service.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not previously use a different solution. Forescout was our first.

We are just now migrating to Cisco ISE. The problem is that we have around 500 users and we have only 100 licenses from Forescout due to the fact that it is a little expensive for us. We are trying instead to move to Cisco ISE, which has better pricing.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was not complex. It was pretty easy. Installation maybe takes one or two days, and the implementation in total takes around two weeks.

We have a partner from Forescout in my country. He came to my company to meet with us. He helped explain a few things and assisted with network displays.

There were about eight people that handled deployment between our end and the technical support side.

What about the implementation team?

A Forescout representative ultimately came to our company for us. They assisted a little. They understood the cloud very well and were very helpful.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licenses are quite expensive. Ultimately, we couldn't afford the amount we needed, and therefore we are moving off the product.

We might have paid in the ballpark of $20,000 yearly for our licenses. I do not recall there being other fees over and above the standard licensing fee.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated Cisco. The difference is the compatibility with our network. Other switches are Cisco devices, and therefore the compatibility and the integration were a little easier. With Forescout we have had some issues with some other access points. With Cisco ISE, we don't have that problem.

What other advice do I have?

I do not recall which version of the solution we are using. We use the on-premises deployment model, however, we also have some clients on the cloud.

I would advise other organizations that, if they have multi-vendors in their network, use Forescout. However, if most of the devices are Cisco, it is best to use Cisco ISE.

It is a great tool and solution. We looked into it with the Magic Quadrant of Gartner and we have seen that it is a leader in the space. However, for us, it just doesn't work as well in terms of compatibility.

I'd recommend the solution. I would rate it at an eight out of ten.

Well-featured, price competitive, and great technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "I find the solution to be very rich in features."
  • "I believe the solution is missing some great features which are present in other solutions like Aruba, UiPath, and Cisco ISE."

What is our primary use case?

It is a BYOD solution which is a type of network access control solution(NAC). It can be used for guest services for the customer, as a BYOD, or a network access control.

What is most valuable?

I find the solution to be very rich in features. Some examples include great guest authentication, authorization, port-string, and network access control.

What needs improvement?

I believe the solution is missing some great features which are present in other solutions like Aruba, UiPath, and Cisco ISE. One example of an improvement could be regarding mobile device management(MDM) which the solution is lacking.

In the additional release, I would want the solution to have better integration that would be compatible with third-party solutions.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used the solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I find the solution to be stable. It has a policy that is giving new software upgrades to its programs on a quarterly basis. As far as I am using it, there are a few bugs in the SSL certificate and also the certificate duration.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I find the solution scalable. We are looking to expand it to our customers.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have great experience with solutions technical and administrative support because they have their own team in their headquarters. It is very easy and they are helpful. The support is based on a certificate contract on a yearly basis.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of the solution was straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

All the features of the solution are very easy to deploy. It can be deployed on bare metal servers, or over the cloud.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing of the solution is user-based and the price is good.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have compared other solutions such as Aruba, UiPath, and Cisco ISE.

What other advice do I have?

The solution has all the training of Cloudpath integration with a controller over their training sites and on YouTube. They provide information on videos about the climate of Cloudpath with the controller as well as the third parties. Anybody who would want to use the solution can access information about it from these platforms.

I would recommend the solution to other users because it is price competitive and well-featured.

I rate Ruckus Cloudpath an eight out of ten.

User-friendly and easy to implement
Pros and Cons
  • "This solution is very easy to implement and use. The interface is user-friendly."
  • "The reporting capability needs to be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and this is one of the products that we implement for our customers. It is used as part of the network security and protects our clients.

What is most valuable?

This solution is very easy to implement and use.

The interface is user-friendly.

The most valuable feature for us is the support for iOS and iPhones.

What needs improvement?

The problem with Fortinet is that if you want to be 100% secure then you have to buy other products. It should support better integration with third-party solutions.

The reporting capability needs to be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using FortiNAC for about three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

FortiNAC is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution, although the scalability also depends on the other products that it is integrated with. Our customers are medium-sized and enterprise-level organizations. Our clients have about 500 users.

How are customer service and technical support?

This solution is so stable that we have not had any problems and never needed to contact technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I am also working with Cisco ISE. It is very complicated compared to FortiNAC.

How was the initial setup?

It is very easy and straightforward to implement.

What about the implementation team?

Three of our engineers were involved in the deployment. One of them focuses on security and the others take care of networking.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing fees are a little bit high.

What other advice do I have?

I try to push the use of this product because sometimes, the complicated solutions like Cisco ISE sometimes make the customers feel annoyed.

My advice to anybody who is considering this solution is that if the budget allows it, the entire security solution should be made up of Fortinet products. They integrate well and it will be better overall. A complete and secure solution will include products like FortiSandbox and FortiAnalyzer as well.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Our primary use is network access control at the endpoints.

What is most valuable?

The interface is very easy to use and the workflow is quite straightforward.

What needs improvement?

The licensing model could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been working with ClearPass for about two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a very reliable and robust product and we plan to continue using it

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have not yet had to scale or add features, but I think that it's going to be easy. We currently have about 10,000 endpoints.

How are customer service and technical support?

The support is good and they are quite fast. We have not had many issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have experience with Cisco ISE and ClearPass is much easier to use. Because it is so complicated, we were having a lot of issues with it.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and easy to do. It took less than a week to deploy.

What about the implementation team?

We purchased this solution together with the Professional Services, so the vendor set it up for us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is not bad and everything is included.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, this is a good product and I can recommend it. There is really nothing bad that I can say about it, although I do think that they should work on changing the licensing model.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
