What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Veritas Alta Data Protection involves data cloud data and on-premise data from NetBackup and storages from Hitachi, IBM, and multiple storages.
A specific example of how I use Veritas Alta Data Protection in a typical workflow is connecting to the primary server, which is the main part of the solution for backup, where I give permissions to collect job details, size of the jobs, details of the schedules, and more services I use to create reports about the SLA and other metrics of our environment.
Day-to-day, I use Veritas Alta Data Protection to monitor multiple environments, which is useful because I can connect 10, 20, or any primary servers in the same glass pane, helping me maintain the health of my environment.
How has it helped my organization?
Veritas Alta Data Protection has positively impacted my organization by reducing rework because it centers the data in a single pane and facilitates administration by sending reports to my email, allowing me to focus my work on the last errors in the environment.
Since I started using Veritas Alta Data Protection, I have saved 20 beginning hours of the day that I previously spent generating reports manually or collecting data in the environment. Now I open the email at the start of the day and in five minutes I get the picture of the environment, which reduces my workload drastically.
What is most valuable?
The best features that Veritas Alta Data Protection offers are the reports, as they provide a great experience by sending reports by email, SNMP trap, and allowing customization of some reports. I mainly use the pre-models in the environment, but in some cases I need to configure it for customer requests.
The reporting helps me significantly as I can configure a schedule to send an email, allowing me to receive results from the last window of backup, and in some cases the last 24 hours or 12 hours, depending on the environment.
I use the reports and the single pane, which are the main features for me.
What needs improvement?
Veritas Alta Data Protection can be improved by accepting more sources such as cloud environments, native cloud environments, native cloud storages, or cloud storages on-premise, not just limited to backup tools, as I believe this would be a great improvement for the tool.
Regarding needed improvements, I find the user interface is very easy to use and I do not feel the need to change anything, but I would like to see integrations with more sources and more reports.
I rate it a nine because I believe it could reach a ten with more sources and reports and the possibility to create more reports or integrate with other tools. I believe I have covered the necessary features and improvements for Veritas Alta Data Protection, and there are no other small things I remember at this time.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veritas Alta Data Protection for the last seven years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Veritas Alta Data Protection is stable in my experience.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of Veritas Alta Data Protection is great, as I do not have problems with one master or two primaries or three, four, or 10 primaries. It is usable for me.
How are customer service and support?
Regarding customer support, the change of Veritas cell to curiosity is a little hard to get better support now, but I have a good experience overall.
I rate the customer support a seven out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I do not use any other solution. I use the backup tool directly.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a return on investment in terms of time saved. I reduce two hours of my day, as before Veritas Alta Data Protection I needed two hours to check our environments. Now I receive an email with details, which reduces troubleshooting time and allows more time for other tasks.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing is based on a license for some customers and environment quests, but I do not have experience with the pricing.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate Veritas Alta Data Protection a nine.
Regarding Veritas Alta Data Protection's AI capabilities, I see some materials about this new interface and integration with AI, which I believe poses no risk for governance since it uses metadata, not explicit data access. My concern is that the security team needs to grant access only to authorized people and maintain security breaches closed to a restricted group of people.
The results from Veritas Alta Data Protection are very reliable. I have tested it in some cases, but I have not used it for work proposals, though I believe it is useful for creating data manager reports.
Veritas Alta Data Protection is deployed in a public cloud in my organization.
I use Azure as the cloud provider for Veritas Alta Data Protection.
My advice to others looking into using Veritas Alta Data Protection is that if you need a single pane of glass and AI tools, I recommend using Veritas Alta Data Protection.
