What is our primary use case?

We are vendors. We're value-added resellers of software solutions. We are dealing with the end-users, and we help them to select the right software. We also help them to implement the right software and manage their internal training requirements.

In terms of deployment, it is a mixture of on-premise and cloud.

What is most valuable?

Its workflow is straightforward and simple to understand.

What needs improvement?

There is a little bit of reliance upon understanding the syntax of the actions that you want to take. Some of the other competitors have moved forward with that in terms of being able to make it more drag and drop and more logical, but there is still some way to go for UNIT4 in doing that, but they're getting there.

With all these things, automation helps. The more they can do to simplify some of the complexities from the financial reporting, evaluation, and analysis sides, the better it would be. I'd like to see more automation and more simplicity from an end-user point of view.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable.

It is definitely scalable. 

How are customer service and support?

We support those customers with whom we work directly. We also support some of the others, but they do have a good support network around the globe.

How was the initial setup?

It can be deployed through the browser and through the cloud. It's not a difficult thing to do at all.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's perhaps on the slightly richer side of pricing for the markets that we focus on because we tend to focus on the SME or the small to medium enterprise market, whereas a lot of UNIT4 ERP customers are in local government, universities, etc. Some years ago, they were launching an initiative to be keenly priced for that SME market, but today, the foot has come off the accelerator a bit. It isn't the cheapest, but it is also not the most expensive one.

What other advice do I have?

All of these solutions tend to be acquired on the basis of whatever else someone else is using or whatever experience people have. If you are already using their ERP systems or anything else like that, you naturally progress towards UNIT4.

It certainly sits in the larger organizations. For the small to medium organizations, it's not just a question of pulling something from a hat and saying, "This will be a fit for you." It's about understanding:

  • What do they do and how do they do it?
  • Should they or should they not move to any particular software vendor? Would it be an easy or less easy route for them?

So, it depends very much on what they're used to, what internal skills they've got, and everything else, but all other things being equal, it's a perfectly reasonable product.

I would certainly recommend this solution. I would rate it a seven out of ten.
