Easy to use and competitively priced
Honestly, the product needs to continue the way it is, and I feel that everything will be fine. I haven't had any reasons to complain about the product. The product doesn’t offer MDM functionality under its current licensing model. In the future, I want the product to offer MDM. It can allow me to manage my mobile device more efficiently and effectively. Currently, there is a need for a separate license to be added to Symantec Endpoint Detection and Response to be able to use the MDM part. If both are bundled up under the same license, the administration part can be made easier.

Shows promise for endpoint detection and response, with room for improvement in complexity and pricing
VMware Carbon Black Cloud is a user-friendly solution that can isolate machines from the rest of the network. When a machine is quarantined, it cannot communicate with any other machines on the network except for the Carbon Black Cloud server. This allows you to investigate the machine without the risk of malware escaping to the network. Carbon Black Cloud's server can communicate with the quarantined machine through DNS and VSCP. This allows you to collect data from the machine, such as system logs, process activity, and registry changes. This data can be used to investigate the infection and determine the next steps. CrowdStrike and Cybereason are also popular EDR solutions. They offer similar features to VMware Carbon Black Cloud but may have different strengths and weaknesses. It is important to evaluate all of your options before choosing an EDR solution. Additionally, it is complex to use, and the pricing should be improved.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is mostly used for malware detection and antivirus purposes."
"The Detection vulnerability is very effective."
"The most valuable features of Symantec Endpoint Detection and Response are its immediate response and investigation."
"There are times when Symantec Endpoint Detection and Response tags an executable as malicious when it is trying to get executed on the machine. In this case, it prevents the execution and it gives you a process view of things where you can look into what has happened and whether it is a genuine process trying to access some system activities, or it's a malicious one. Depending upon the process, it gives you a clear identification, and we can do the containment from the interface itself and isolate the machine from the network. The process review on network isolation is good."
"The setup is quite easy."
"The solution can scale well."
"The most valuable features of the solution are that it is easy to use and has good support."
"IPS and the user interface are good features."
"The most valuable feature of VMware Carbon Black Cloud is the possibility of securing any PC worldwide."
"Threat hunting is the most valuable feature of VMware Carbon Black Cloud."
"We are able to remotely isolate exploited endpoints in seconds and perform a live deep dive of any endpoint into its running processes (as necessary) without the need for extra scripts."
"We also took full advantage of its incident response reporting capabilities to act as a “black box” for our infrastructure around strings of suspicious activity. The reporting and incident response capabilities were incredibly helpful during active security concerns."
"They're highly stable in comparison with other solutions I have."
"Setting up and managing the setup for this solution is okay. It is stable, scalable, and it runs just fine. No issues with technical support."
"Carbon Black Cb Response excels at providing context to indicators when responding to incidents. It allows responders to understand the entire scope of an incident and quickly contain it to minimize impact and disruption."
"Integration and scalability are the most valuable."

Cons

"The solution’s scalability and stability could be improved."
"The solution needs to provide better integration."
"A significant deterioration in customer support."
"It should be easier to deploy Symantec's client for end-users."
"It would be beneficial to have more integration and compatibility with other platforms."
"I would like to see better scanning capabilities."
"It would be good if it can anticipate zero-day attacks. I don't know how it can be done and if it is even a feature of this product."
"The product doesn’t offer MDM functionality under its current licensing model."
"It's not simple."
"The support team of Carbon Black CB Response needs improvement. At present, they need a lot of information. Then they give you an answer that they already gave you. You tell them it didn't work, and then they take a long time."
"The threat intelligence feed could use some fine tweaking."
"Training and education for both partner and customer, including product marketing need to be improved."
"The dashboard should be more user-friendly."
"There have been some performance issues when deploying on Windows Server, but I believe Carbon Black is working on that."
"The solution's support could be improved."
"The biggest issue I encountered was one where old logs were not being overwritten as expected so the system drive kept filling up from time to time. However, support was usually quite responsive and happy to jump on a remote session to take a look at it for us. That log bug has probably been resolved with an update by now."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is really high and it should be lower."
"Compared to the tools of competitors, Symantec Endpoint Detection and Response is a cheaply priced product."
"We pay around $100,000 for 5000 licenses every year."
"It is an expensive solution."
"Symantec Endpoint Detection and Response is expensive."
"The price is okay, but it really depends on the customer's requirements."
"Of late, because of the Broadcom purchase, its price has been increasing."
"We have a yearly subscription, and the pricing is fair."
"VMware Carbon Black Cloud is an expensive solution."
"You need to pay for the licensing of the product. The pricing is costly."
"We had no issues purchasing through our preferred reseller and were able to get a fair price even when not purchasing direct. Carbon Black Enterprise Response didn’t break the bank, though adding on the matching antivirus and anti-malware components of the Protect product was more than we could afford, even with some discounting. Cb Response is really designed to complement Carbon Black’s Defense product. While Response can be used on its own, coupling with Defense seems like the best strategy if you can afford the price tag."
"Pricing for this solution could be made lower."
"Purchase Professional Services up front as part of the implementation package, then renew hours annually to ensure you have adequate support for upgrades and enhancements. Overbuy by at least 10% to account for infrastructure growth."
"The solution is very inexpensive so there is great cost savings to using it."
