Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"What I like the most is the bandwidth assessment.""The bandwidth monitoring functionality is one of the most important features for our customers. When the customer notices that their bandwidth usage is too high for some reason, they will use the traffic analysis within SolarWinds NTA to identify which protocols (e.g. HTTPS) or applications are using up the bandwidth.""The integration with other SolarWinds products is good.""In terms of the implementation, we've actually used SAM, the server and application monitoring tools. The network configuration tools are very useful in terms of bulk upgrading switches and infrastructure. Also, the Network Traffic Analyzer was extremely useful to track down errant users soaking up bandwidth.""The most valuable feature is the alarm that is set up to trigger based on bandwidth utilization.""The dashboard alerts me when a critical device goes off the network.""The program is scalable enough for our usage.""The software management tools are very useful for our customers."

"The product is reasonably priced.""NetFlow monitoring, real-time monitoring, and surveys have been the most valuable features for our business.""The user interface is good enough.""It handles the basics of monitoring.""The most valuable feature of WhatsUp Gold is NetFlow and the virtualized maps.""WhatsUp Gold is very easy to deploy.""The solution effectively monitors network devices and servers.""The installation and configuration process are easy."

Cons
"There are some areas for improvement in SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer. There are some challenges with the solution when compared to other monitoring tools such as difficulty in operations and difficulty with backup installation. My team is currently trying out different solutions but would need to see how it goes.""One area that we struggle with is the price. Because the price of this solution is so high, we are largely unable to introduce it into the local market, and only the banking sector has the means to afford it.""This solution does not do a very good job when I am trying to look deeper into my internal network, in particular with respect to individual ports.""It does not flow. It cannot do our metric performance monitoring. So it is very limited. They can do it but in a very limited fashion. It is only good for SNMP-based alerts.""The solution needs better log management and log coordination with tools.""An area for improvement in SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is application visibility because some applications aren't being recognized correctly. You can see applications such as Facebook and YouTube, but SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer needs to have more visibility into more applications. Currently, SolarWinds fails to detect more powerful applications, such as Zoom and Teams. If SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer can recognize every application and be able to report on each in terms of bandwidth, then that would be good. This is what I'd like to see in the next release of the solution.""An area for improvement in SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is the dashboarding. The user interface also has room for improvement because it's currently clunky.""I would like to see more training videos and additional material for learning how to use this solution."

"Importing the maps and being able to customize them could be easier.""Users want SMS available via Whatsapp Gold. They don't want to go through third party SMS servers. The solution should work to make this possible.""I would like to see them do an enhancement to the application monitoring. A lot of other products do better application monitoring so they should do some improvements to the application monitoring.""Integrations with other devices. I want to have a product that has full integration with my active directory so I can track user activity. I want to track my complete user activity, so I'm looking for a product to implement in the near future, which will have full integration with my network and active directory users. It became very difficult to track user activity.""The point system is not clear and clarity around this would improve our understanding of the system.""I would like to see better integration with switches so that you can see what is connected to each port, what the traffic is, and have a network map automatically generated.""You have to invest a few days to become an expert in this solution.""Regional product team support is not very good."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "For our environment, we pay approximately $25,000 USD yearly."

  • "We have licenses for SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer. In terms of pricing, its license is not that expensive versus other tools such as HP."
  • "Pricing for SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is very high. I have a customer that needs the solution but doesn't have the budget for SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer because the problem is that you can't use the solution only. You have to buy requirements such as the SolarWinds NPM first, and some companies don't have the budget for all the required components and modules. SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer can cost up to $10,000, and some customers don't have that budget. Another product has all the modules that SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer has, with a very low price, that can be a replacement, which is ManageEngine NetFlow Analyzer. PRTG is another solution that can replace SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer."

  • "The pricing can be on the expensive side when considering competing products."
  • "There are some subscription charges that are quite heavy. I need to pay for support every year and these charges can be quite expensive. Aside from the initial cost for the tool, you need to pay additionally for support."
  • "It is per device, per year. The pricing is very clear. If you have a service agreement, you get all of your major upgrades and minor upgrades. It was under $10,000 to go all-in with all of the different add-ons for it."

  • "This is a well priced solution."
