A comprehensive and well-built solution for disaster recovery and backup
We use SEP sesam for disaster recovery and backup.  We need a solution to handle on-premise and cloud backup, particularly the Microsoft 0ffice365 server.  SEP sesam needs to work on stability.  I have been using the solution for a year.  We have not encountered any downtime while using the…

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We need a solution to handle on-premise and cloud backup, particularly the Microsoft 0ffice365 server."
"Storage gateway feature is very flexible."
"We changed when we saw the promise of Veeam, and these promises have been delivered!"
"I have found the most valuable feature to be the new CDP features, which are very popular for my customer's needs and the solution is user-friendly."
"The solution gives me everything which no physical machine gives, however, it is much easier to relocate to do anything with it."
"Veeam Data Platform copies data very efficiently."
"The good thing about the solution is that it's easy to understand, implement and take back data and resources."
"Veeam however, is the easiest way to manage virtual infrastructure backup, and the cost is better, when compared with some other solutions."
"One of the most valuable features is the incremental backup. It is, of course, perfect because you have a lot of restore points, but you don't need all the space. The stability is also perfect."

Cons

"SEP sesam needs to work on stability."
"Scalability, as well as licensing costs, need to be improved."
"The price is an issue. If one has a large number of servers, say... 100-plus, and wishes to add more, an exhausted budget may hinder this ability."
"Backup compression. It has got better but still could improve somewhat."
"It could also improve on its cloud tier, to tier data to the cloud once it is backed up."
"Margins should not be distinct; instead, they should seamlessly integrate with the Veeam Backup and Replication tools, requiring minimal separation."
"I would like for them to develop the ability to fix the way it does backups. We can't pick a backup for one database. We have to do a backup on the whole Exchange VM. I'd like for them to change it to where we can do individual backups."
"I cannot recall coming across any features that were lacking."
"Lacks online training."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"SEP sesam offers a perpetual licensing option, which means you don't have to renew your license at a new price every time. I rate the solution's pricing a six and a half out of ten."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"Veeam Backup Replication has a lot of free features. We have a mixture of the paid versions as well as the community version. They are really helpful to us."
"The cost is expensive. It will depend on how you are managing your environment, your requirements, and if you can easily manage a license. It's not that difficult, so you can manage it, but the cost is high, so you need to check directly with Veeam as well as the local partner so you can get the discount prices."
"We use the community edition of the Veeam Backup Replication and it is a software-based license. It can be a little expensive."
"The price of the solution is high."
"We have increased our scalability while being able to free up senior resources from recovery activities. I estimate our overall savings to about $20,000 per year."
"Pricing is not the cheapest, but you get a lot of value for your money."
"The product is not that expensive."

VMware SRM vs. Veeam vs. Zerto
Disaster recovery planning is something that seems challenging for all businesses. Virtualization in addition to its operational flexibility, and cost reduction benefits, has helped companies improve their DR posture. Virtualization has made it easier to move machines from production to…
