Rapid delivery has transformed complex enterprise apps and supports faster cross-domain projects
Every platform or low-code platform tool is quite good in its own area, but there is always space to groom or enhance or improve. The same is with OutSystems as well. A couple of things from the integration point of view can be enhanced. If your application or the enterprise organization is tackling a huge data application where you have bulk amounts of data, it becomes a challenge for all the technologies and the same with OutSystems. You have to design your architecture in a very magnificent and decent way so that how you process your data so that load can be easily balanced. Data handling and huge data handling is a kind of challenge you may need to face. Then we have some vendor lock-in. If you are trying to migrate your application from OutSystems, then you probably get into this vendor lock-in system. Some organization may face challenges if some organization is on a small scale size. The small scale businesses may find OutSystems costly because of its high cost and pricing due to the licensing cost. Apart from that, OutSystems really plays well, and it needs a learning curve. If a traditional application or programming is there which your developers are skilled into and they are directly deployed into OutSystems, it may take some significant amount of time for them to get comfortable with OutSystems. There is a learning curve. OutSystems community is already in place, but it can more be enhanced regarding some aspects. They did organize lots of bootcamps and other user groups as well, but those can also be improved from the documentation point of view and having some integration guidebook as well. A couple of things which can be improved into OutSystems include the licensing cost, the vendor lock-in side, the learning curve, couple of integration aspects and customizations.

Citizen developers have automated finance processes and created reusable modules across entities
There are some weaknesses, though nothing on the top of my mind at the moment. From a process and OCR point of view, for example, we are currently doing a use case about e-invoicing. We feel the accuracy that the OCR provides from UiPath Studio was not as high as we had initially anticipated. We had to not go with that module that UiPath Studio offers. UiPath Studio has an a la carte mode where you can buy specific functionalities without having to buy the whole package. We decided to test out a few other tools in the market and bought a customized tool specifically for OCR purposes because UiPath Studio's accuracy was not as great. It comes more on a use case-to-use case basis. Certain use cases that we try show that certain functionalities could be improved, and there is definitely a scope for improvement. That being said, the functionalities that we bought UiPath Studio initially for work pretty well. We wanted a centralized automation hub, an Orchestrator, and maximum license utilization for the bots we were purchasing. They are basic, but at the same time, they are easy to use. The ease of use is one of the main reasons why we still favor UiPath Studio. The AI and OCR parts are something we are looking to explore more in the coming year, and that will probably give us more insights into the functionalities and their value. At the moment, we use Oracle as our ERP. We have not had much success integrating with Oracle so far. UiPath Studio offers a lot of customized integrations for SAP, but not much for Oracle Cloud. We had to leverage our internal ERP in-house team to build integrations. We used Oracle Cloud integrations rather than UiPath Studio integrations with respect to ERP. Every conference or event that UiPath Studio organizes, when we have a chance to speak with someone from UiPath Studio, we bring up Oracle Cloud integrations. I believe that in Europe and the US, Oracle Cloud is growing in usage, so we would appreciate more effort focused there. However, with Salesforce, we used a couple of cases with customer service in our company, and we integrated with it very smoothly without any blockers. At the moment, we have not explored AI and ML capabilities of UiPath Studio as much as we should have. We conducted a series of process discovery workshops in our company, and the use cases we received did not require AI or ML functionalities because they were core finance operations, and we did well with just the regular functionalities of UiPath Studio. We are still looking forward to finding a case where we could leverage AI and ML capabilities. We do not want to use AI functionalities just because we want to use them. It is more of a situation where we ask if it is needed, and we are still looking forward to finding a case that demands the need for AI functionalities or a nice-to-have feature. At the moment, we still have not used or explored those things of UiPath Studio.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"OutSystems is a low-code solution. Most features are like drag-and-drop, so it's pretty easy to work. Thus it helps the organization by saving time for developers."
"I find it to be a genuinely cool and effective platform for my development needs."
"The scalability of OutSystems is very good, it scales automatically very useful for us."
"I think OutSystems provides one of the best trainings out of all similar platforms."
"The solution is all-encompassing and very easy to use with its drag-and-drop feature."
"One thing I like about OutSystems is that there's no lock-in. You can keep running your applications because it's on .NET and hosted centrally. That's one of the advantages I see there in terms of not having an IT strategy that has a dependency on a particular platform."
"Before using Outsystems to develop a client's reporting systems, the process would take six months to complete a report, and after using Outsystems and building a custom application, report-building is one click away and it only took us three months to build the custom application using OutSystems."
"The tool makes the development process easier."
"The fact that with UiPath Studio we can build reusable modules that we can use across automations has been specifically very useful to us as a company and team driving this project."
"Compared to other tools, UiPath Studio licensing cost is low."
"Right now we have it deployed, and it is dealing with about 50% of our document volume."
"There are a lot of great things in UiPath Studio; whatever is required for the development is there, and I do not think I face any difficulty during the development of any use case from UiPath Studio's side."
"I have seen a return on investment because we have saved around one million dollars on a yearly basis with our 1,000 bots."
"UiPath Studio is good for automating business processes and repetitive tasks within my company."

Cons

"When shared extensions are updated, all the applications are redeployed."
"Technical support would get a three out of five, as there is some wait time involved and some solutions were not adequate."
"The initial setup is a little difficult."
"We haven't yet reached the level that we need to seriously consider scaling, but from my experience it isn't so easy to scale any kind of closed platform where you start without the source."
"The dashboards in OutSystems could improve. There are a lot of tabs in the service center that can be confusing."
"I would like to see more integration between the use of artificial intelligence to speed up the process delivery time."
"The technical features are good, but the actual commercialization is out of reach."
"The integration Studio could be improved. It needs a tool in which we could develop C# code and then integrate into OutSystems. The application could have a better UI."
"In terms of improvement for UiPath Studio, while we are currently using the AI capability, I find that Copilot is not that reliable."
"We are not seeing improved ROI because the bigger chunks of use cases we have already addressed. When we take it down to the medium size, the cost of development and deployment is something which is prohibitive and it doesn't make a good financial business case."
"On the improving side, concerning costing, I am not sure because the cost of the new product is very high."
"Some of the recent upgraded versions, the package sometimes create problems, so that has to be tested first and then it should be available in UiPath Studio, because everybody wants to use the latest package, but sometimes when we are using the latest package, it creates problems."
"We feel the accuracy that the OCR provides from UiPath Studio was not as high as we had initially anticipated."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is okay. OutSystems isn't expensive. It's a mid-range solution."
"The solution is expensive. The platform is not suitable for all of my clients. I work with labor unions and other smaller organizations that would not be able to afford the platform's current pricing model. It would be beneficial if there were a scaled-down version or a tiered pricing option that would allow me to build an app or a web app that is more cost-effective for my clients. Currently, the platform's pricing is too high for many of my clients, who would not be able to afford something in the $50,000 to $100,000 range."
"The tool’s licensing is based on the user’s usage."
"OutSystems is a good solution, but it's not cheap."
"OutSystems is a very expensive solution, and it has to be cheaper."
"For a single application, it's too expensive."
"OutSystems was open to a deal that worked for both sides."
"The subscription is billed on a yearly basis."
