Automation of financial processes streamlines operations but pricing needs improvement
Our clients mostly use Hyperion for their financial requirements, including budgeting, forecasting, and planning The feature that allows automation of the budgeting and forecasting process is extremely valuable, especially when compared to Excel. The workflow management of planning and the…

A stable cloud-based solution that allows optimization in addition to process discovery and analysis
When the process models are transferred back to the design environment for further optimization and simulations, we need to see some improvements in the way the models get created in the design. It is very limited because of the transactional data. It seamlessly creates the BPML as well, but it would be easier if the other model, the EPC, were also created simultaneously.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Functionality-wise, it is what they say it is. It is the best in class, but it all ties back to your users. If your users are completely enamored with Excel spreadsheets, then breaking those habits is hard."
"The stability is fine and quite user friendly."
"The roll-up potential of the product is very good, meaning we have detailed information and we want it to be summarized, based on geography, based on different product lines, or based on different charts of accounts in the general ledger. It rolls up the information in a very concise way. This makes it easy to understand the overall performance, for it's forecasting aspects, or quarterly reporting, year to year, or month to month reporting."
"Oracle Hyperion is fairly user-friendly and not too complicated. The forecasting, it's really good. It's sometimes slow when there are a lot of users using it and we can have up to approximately 300 users using it. However, you can do it in Excel because there's an Excel add-in. This is a benefit because a lot of people do this way instead of having to go into the planning application itself."
"Oracle has an integrated solution for Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) and Hyperion. It keeps the two platforms opened up to each other."
"The most valuable features are those associated with modules and SP, IT in this space, planning, HFM, and PME."
"I rate the overall solution nine out of ten."
"The implementation has been simplified now that it's deployed in the cloud. Also, Hyperion is tightly integrated with Oracle products because Oracle owns it now."
"I have found Software AG ARIS Process Mining scalable."
"It is very easy to work on the way the ETL happens in ARIS Process Mining."
"The interface is simplified and easy to use."
"One feature I found really cool was the Conformance Engine."
"It is a stable solution...I rate the technical support a ten out of ten...On a scale of one to ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy, I rate the setup a nine."

Cons

"The pricing model could be more flexible as it's more expensive than its competitors."
"Their documentation could be a little bit more descriptive at places. They don't really do a lot of How-Tos because that gets pushed through to the consulting groups. There have been some books. There is a real good one out there about how to look smarter than you are with Hyperion Planning that some people at a company called ArganoInterRel wrote. Those things do exist, but that's not in their documentation. It's basically like they'll say, "This is the field. This is what it's used for," but they don't tell you how to particularly use it in your case environment."
"The solution is about to cease to exist, so it doesn't really matter if they add anything to it. It's at end-of-life."
"Oracle Hyperion generally it's quite a complex architecture that is hard to maintain."
"The forecasting of values could be simplified in this solution."
"I would like to see more integrations with third-party vendors such as BigSense and SAP. I'm looking forward to seeing more interface-related content."
"There's something known as a data block that Hyperion generates for each and every transaction. Sometimes it does not generate and we need to identify those issues and fix them manually."
"What I like is to have everything on one platform and not in different modules like Oracle Hyperion."
"I guess we have many unnecessary steps within our processes. There is room for automation and room for enhancement within our application portfolio management...In short, I would like to eliminate unnecessary steps in some processes in this solution."
"There should be a single site for modeling and mining."
"Customizing KPIs and building dashboards were not as intuitive as other similar tools."
"The installation is straightforward, we didn't have any technical issues with installing. However, we needed support to complete the implementation."
"When the process models are transferred back to the design environment for further optimization and simulations, we need to see some improvements in the way the models get created in the design."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Oracle Hyperion's licensing structures are quite expensive for some companies, especially medium-sized companies because of the user-based license."
"Compared with MSBA, it is quite reasonable."
"As Oracle's pricing is on the higher end, most businesses prefer to have their own private cloud."
"It might be considered relatively costly compared to some alternatives."
"Oracle Hyperion is not an inexpensive solution."
"We pay for licensing yearly."
"The licenses cost approximately $1,000."
"To get a full license, which gives you access to most of the different Hyperion programs, it costs $2000 to $2500 a month."
"Looking at the value it gives, ARIS Process Mining's pricing is fair."
"We pay for a license to use this solution."
"The pricing is based on licenses."
"It's highly-priced, so it's not exactly a cheap product...We are getting what we are paying for, so on a scale of one to ten, or one is low, and ten is a high price, I rate the pricing a nine out of ten."
