Cons

"We have become frequent customers of the Data Protector technical support team because Data Protector does fairly regularly break."
"The Data Protector software service shuts down randomly sometimes."
"Better documentation on how to backup the device itself through a flash drive or CD."
"With scalability, there are a few limitations. It's limited to certain platforms."
"The GUI needs to be easier to administrate. Also, it should have better access to more materials to help understanding the product (like the difference between INCR and INCR1, etc. and how it works)."
"The GUI could be updated. The GUI hasn't changed since version 6. It's on version 10 now. The reporting could also be better. Also, while Data Protector is excellent for backing up physical hardware, it needs more features for backing up VM images because many environments use hypervisor."
"Technical support is OK. They responded to me within a reasonable time, but the person with whom I spoke didn't really know how to do or understand what I was doing."
"Currently, I can only give negative feedback because my experience in its current state is not up to the mark."
"The deduplication and compression ratio could be improved to save more space for customers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution requires paying for a license."
"The license for the solution is very expensive compared to the other products in the market."
"The licensing structure provides cost savings to business."
"We have many competitors who are pricing better, and we believe that our pricing is higher."
"Our licensing is on a capacity basis."
"The licensing cost is too high."
"The pricing is acceptable for enterprise level companies, but it's not acceptable for small- and medium-sized businesses. Micro Focus Data Protector is not an enterprise level solution, and it should cover small- and medium-sized businesses with acceptable prices."
