Easy to work and offers features for tape backups, disk backups, and whatever you want
NovaStor NovaBACKUP is still working on new features because they listen to the customers and integrate their needs into new versions. You can see they make progress with each new version. They are much faster than IBM, where you sometimes have to wait years for new features. It is very quick and fast. NovaStor have big competitors like Veeam, which is very fast and aggressive. It's good, but it depends on the price. I think NovaStor might be cheaper. They have a direct connection to their developers and sales teams, which makes getting answers very fast. Veeam has a lot of features, like a special reporting tool. However, I've heard from some customers that Veeam wasn't always the right decision because it couldn't work with their environment. But Veeam has aggressive marketing, which is why they are probably in first place at the moment, besides Commvault. IBM has lost its competitive edge and is trying to catch up, but it might be too late.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's the easiest way to configure it."
"NovaBACKUP protects your entire system with a single solution."
"It is a very good and easy-to-use tool for non-technical people."
"The one thing for the last 12 months which has been very good for Veritas was the instance-based license. This means that you're able to license per instance, not only per physical server."
"This is a very good product."
"We are happy with Veritas Backup Exec's stability."
"The usability and interface of the solution are good."
"Its reliability and the fact that we have all the skills that we need for Veritas Backup Exec are the most valuable."
"The price is reasonable for the features it offers."
"The implementation is straightforward."
"I highly recommend using Veritas Backup Exec for backup as it is very easy to use, easy to deploy, and the support is also very nice."

Cons

"The price of NovaStor NovaBACKUP is an area that can be considered as a weakness or drawback, where improvements are required."
"The room for improvement lies in the compatibility of NovaBACKUP with older operating systems."
"It's not too stable for client-server architecture. Center Management is not so interactive, and then there are some issues regarding the complex licensing which needs improvement."
"We have to struggle with license deployment every time, so I think they can improve that aspect."
"The EDR should be looked at, as the operating system is too weak."
"The support from Veritas Backup Exec could improve. The support we receive is offsite, and at times when we have an issue, the person helping may be in a different time zone."
"It is not a recommended software when it comes to large environments where there has to be a minimal Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and/or Recover Point Objective (RPO)."
"I have found the duplication to be very poor."
"Veritas can improve the user interface and the information displayed."
"I wish that they have an outlet for the other products from Veritas built into the Backup Exec product. For example, Backup Exec does only server backup. Currently, it is possible to read the backup of one other product, but if they can add more products so that you can just go into the dashboard of these other products by clicking on a button within the Backup Exec product, it would be great."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"My company has to make yearly payments towards the solution's maintenance and support."
"Veritas comes with an annual licensing fee."
"The product is affordable."
"It is affordable, but I hope that the price will come down a lot because of other competitors. It is a good price for the customer, but sometimes, the competition provides a much lower price. There are two ways to license it. You can license it per instance or per terabytes of data that we are mocking up. It is enough because it is not so complex. It is good when you're working with customers."
"We are satisfied with the price of this solution."
"Regarding expense, Backup Exec is generally suitable for small and medium businesses. However, we can customize them based on the workload."
"There is an evaluation license available to test this solution."
"It's a good price for the product."
"The product is inexpensive compared to enterprise software."
