Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We have found all the features of Nakivo to be useful and the solution is easier to use compared to Proxmox. It is user-friendly, we are very satisfied.""The user interface in general is very good. I""It is easy-to-use.""This product has helped to centralize backups and made it easy to recover data.""The main advantage from our perspective is the ability to plug this solution into an existing infrastructure on a cheap device and point the backup at the server targets and configure the backup options in a simple menu; linking to a cheap cloud resource for a simple solution for off-site storage.""The most important feature besides the easy management of the different backup jobs is the automated e-mail notification functionality.""We really appreciate the simplicity of the solution.""The product is good for protecting very low-budget offices, whereas other solutions fail in terms of cost and footprint of the VMs involved."

"The solution is simple to use and has effective automation.""In terms of recovery, if you have a test job script, you can put it on top of it. You can create custom steps so that it will be more granular. It will be an easy, one click solution when it comes to the recovery application.""VMware's tech support gets a nine-out-of-ten. They are responsive and get you a useful reply.""VMware SRM's most valuable features are its convenience and its use of stretched clusters.""VMware SRM is very effective between two sites with identical twin storage, you can have synchronization between the two sites.""VMware SRM is a very nice tool for disaster recovery for virtual environments.""The installation and initial setup are straightforward.""The UI is very user-friendly and testing is easy."

Cons
"When you schedule some jobs, you should be able to see a list of the jobs contained within each. You have to open up the editor to see what is inside. You must click through and edit stuff. Each time, it asks you to save or discard changes. It's very annoying. You only see the name of the scheduled job, and you need to edit it to see what's it's inside.""The interface can be a little clunky at times.""The interface might be improved, but the interface of every product might be improved.""It would be good to have some Oracle database backup capability from the Linux OS in the next release.""Automatic updates do not work, and every update has to be done manually.""We are satisfied with Nakivo, but if anything could be improved, I think it would be more real-time as opposed to email support availability.""I would like to have a built-in SNMP client, which is important if we want to monitor it using Zabbix, Nagios, or another monitoring solution.""There are some errors requiring support to correct and bugs and glitches should be addressed."

More Nakivo Cons →

"The version we are currently using is not the latest and greatest but it has buggy behavior in some browsers.""There needs to be better stability during heavy capacity in future releases.""The technical support is not very good and needs to make an effort to improve.""Technical support needs improvement, they are not very responsive.""We have had an issue when some customers have traditional designs and sites. For example, on one another site, they are using hyper-converged, using VMware, or Nutanix. We have a problem with the synchronization between the storage for site to site. This is the main issue. We are adding some other tools to support the synchronization to allow the movement of the workload from site to site easily.""Lacks stability and as a result requires continuous monitoring.""SRM has to be installed on two separate data centers, so both have to be coordinated very well, which becomes complicated when configuring the software for disaster recovery.""We've had configuration issues on occasion. We start to fail over, and then we have to call it off because the configuration is not right, or the data stores aren't configured correctly in the secondary data center. Oftentimes, it is just the experience level of the team, and we have to bring in the vendor to help and validate our configuration."

    Overview

NAKIVO Backup & Replication provides image-based, application-aware, and forever-incremental backup for VMware, Hyper-V, and AWS EC2 VMs. This means that NAKIVO Backup & Replication can capture all VM data, ensure the  consistency of applications and databases (such as Exchange, Active Directory, MS SQL, SharePoint) running in VMs, and transfer only changes to the backup repository. NAKIVO Backup & Replication uses native change tracking technologies (VMware CBT/Hyper-V RCT) to instantly identify changed data. For each VM backup, you can save up to 1,000 recovery points and rotate them on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.

VMware SRM (Site Recovery Manager) is a business continuity and disaster recovery solution that is part of the vSphere virtualization suite. It helps you plan, test, and run the recovery of virtual machines between a protected vCenter Server site and a recovery vCenter Server site. VMware SRM aims to minimize data loss and system downtime by letting you automate backups and orchestrate the recovery of entire VMware storage systems. VMware SRM is offered on-premises and on the AWS cloud.

VMware SRM is most commonly used for:

    • Disaster recovery
    • Disaster avoidance
    • Data center migrations
    • Site-level load balancing
    • Maintenance testing for enterprise applications

As a disaster recovery tool, VMware SRM:

    • Provides replication technology.
    • Supports policy-based management of backup programs.
    • Lets you run non-disruptive testing of disaster recovery plans.

    VMware SRM Key Features
