Hitesh D - PeerSpot reviewer
High availability and self-healing mechanisms ensure seamless production builds
The most useful feature of Mirantis Container Cloud for our container management is Kubernetes. It provides a cluster, high availability, and a self-healing mechanism. Its multi-cluster management capability enhances our operational efficiency as it is easy to use, and every deployment is from the CI/CD, which automatically builds and deploys without human interference, reducing our deployment time to a few seconds.
Utsav Sharma - PeerSpot reviewer
Maintain operational efficiency by detecting misconfigurations and vulnerabilities
The vulnerability scanning feature is excellent as it supports various container capabilities like Docker and Sharma. It also offers repository scanning in the source code domain, allowing pre-push code scans. The misconfiguration detection works well for CloudFormation, Docker files, and Terraform. Its compliance support, like NIST, ensures that configurations align with standards. Trivy helps me significantly detect misconfigurations missed by the ops engineers or in Terraform by the naked eye. It ensures that my deployments are free of misconfigurations and vulnerabilities.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution containerizes software."
"It is a compact, complete solution that performs well."
"I like the automation in deployment. I can deploy whenever I want based on the environment, and I can easily roll back to a previous version for testing."
"Docker is very helpful for taking the code from development and applying it to the end user."
"I use Docker in combination with Kubernetes. Management of software packages is easy. It also can be done fast. Rolling out new software updates is smoother and faster due to Mirantis Container Cloud."
"You need to make an architectural runway before actually starting to implement Docker Compose, especially in a distributed environment."
"Mirantis Container Cloud provides significant features such as real-time vulnerability scanning and patching for container images and Kubernetes components, reducing security risks."
"Now it is easier to set up the development environment and also to test the applications on the pipelines."
"Trivy is particularly useful for checking if Docker images have critical vulnerabilities before they reach production."
"It's customizable, allowing me to add any rules and format HTML templates as I wish."
"Trivy is very reliable and always has an up-to-date database to scan images and identify vulnerabilities."
"One of the great features of Trivy is that it helps me scan items such as AWS credentials and GCP service accounts."
"Trivy's ability to scan files, images, GitHub repositories, Infrastructure as Code like Terraform, and Kubernetes is valuable."
"Trivy is most valuable for its ability to scan all repository files and dependencies."
"I definitely recommend Trivy."
"What I find valuable is the ease of setup with Trivy, including pre-defined operators that require minimal configuration."

Cons

"I feel that the product lacks to offer a proper health status of the images which are running, making it an area where improvements are required."
"Sometimes the basic support is a bit difficult if you have a firewall and cloud servers behind the firewall and then try to implement the backup solution, it is a bit difficult to do by yourself."
"In my previous years, I have brainstormed about the development of Container software. I have recently shifted focus, but the knowledge gained from those were really helpful. In my experience, Containers have their own complexities and to implement them, open source information is crucial. A software with new features would be beneficial. I suggest to implement a flow-based approach for container sequences, similar to Google Cloud's machine learning. The current process of deploying containers involves too many steps, and a more streamlined method would be appreciated. I've even automated deployment using APIs. Overall, simplifying container management and deployment processes would be valuable."
"I think this solution needs better security due to more risks from the outside world."
"Areas for improvement are the privacy of container management and the documentation. In the next release, I would like to see best practices on how to manage distributed containers and networks."
"It would be very nice to have a GUI that can be used by any administrator, and not just people who have experience with Docker."
"I have consulted Mirantis support for some issues, but the support quality is not good. I suffer from support delays due to timezone differences between India and USA."
"More integrations with other platforms would be beneficial."
"In our CI/CD pipelines, Trivy lacks built-in functionality for report analysis."
"Having little experience can hinder the ability to connect it to a user-friendly UI effectively."
"Trivy can improve by providing an output in PDF format. Additionally, it takes longer to scan container images built with many layers."
"In our CI/CD pipelines, Trivy lacks built-in functionality for report analysis."
"The only problem is that Trivy does not support reporting features such as generating reports in CSV, which is useful for auditing and reporting."
"Trivy is not scalable; however, I have scanned very large projects with it. It is stable but not scalable according to my experience."
"The main area for improvement is in differentiating between OS and application-based vulnerabilities."
"For malware detection, I need to use two tools: Trivy as my anomaly scanner and ClamAV. I am integrating these two tools into the CI pipeline. If both malware and anomaly detection could be managed by one tool, I would not need to depend on two tools. That would be my suggestion."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We use the free version of this solution."
"Its licensing is on a yearly basis."
"It is more costly than other products, but it is worth every penny."
