Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We chose Liferay because it is open-source and that we can make any number of users apply, register into the system and use the system, as opposed to other solutions where the cost is based on user licenses. This is one of the most attractive features.""The integration capabilities of the product are super easy to use.""It allows us to arrange and develop new ideas, then incorporate them into the portal. We can create a one stop information center, so people can access the information from one window.""The web/mobile/portal integration was one of the features that we found most valuable, primarily because it reduced our development time.""Manageability is very good and probably the most valuable part of a tool of this type. There is a little more of a learning curve than you have with a simple tool, but a business user can learn to manage the system as an administrator very easily.""I think that it could be interesting to expand the eCommerce capabilities to the B2C sector.""The solution is easy to install.""The look and feel and the user interface are great."

"The initial setup is pretty simple.""The most valuable features are that it is quite robust and is a collaborative model.""The interaction between different products is most valuable. I use Excel, Mail, Teams, and PowerPoint, not really much else.""We are satisfied with technical support.""The product has good pricing. It's quite inexpensive.""The interface is now more user-friendly than the previous versions of Microsoft Office.""The product is very flexible.""When trying to compare other products there are not a lot of product that can even compare with the functionality."

Cons
"The plugins should be more affordable.""It could be improved in terms of adding filters to some of the rules. Therefore, you can retain how long a document would need to stay in an archive.""It could have better built-in integration with a wider variety of extensions out-of-the-box.""Social area and capabilities need improvement.""The documentation provided needs to be more detailed. It's sometimes hard to develop things because the documentation is so sparse.""The integration and configuration need to be simplified."

More Liferay Digital Experience Platform Cons →

"The program's UI could be faster.""Lacks ability to deploy on more than two devices per license.""The platform's pricing needs improvement.""They could maintain the consistency of features and UI while updating the product.""If Business 365's documentation were better, then the user could read it and fix their issues by themselves. Microsoft could also add some more detailed pop-up troubleshooting messages. When a user has a problem, the messages they get don't help much.""The solution needs to offer more integration capabilities with other systems and applications.""Microsoft Teams, which is a video conferencing, chat, and collaboration tool, has some issues with video codecs. It has really bad performance, especially on the Mac OS, and requires a lot of improvements. I'm using MacBook Pro, and the performance of Microsoft Teams is disastrous. It is really unusable. Given our subscription, we get Microsoft Teams for free, but we are often opting to use Zoom or some other tool because the entire computer becomes almost unusable. New age applications should be written in a way that ensures similar performance across different operating systems. I'm not sure how it works on Windows. I assume it works better, but Microsoft needs to ensure that the performance is really good. It should provide the same kind of user experience across different platforms. They can use more efficient development tools when it comes to applications. They seem to be using a technology that uses a lot of resources on our personal computers. I know that Microsoft is pushing a lot of applications to be built in the Office 365 ecosystem, but Microsoft Teams should be a focus because it is a collaboration tool. Its performance and usability need to be better, especially in the times of COVID-19. As a part of management, I use the collaboration tools and video conferencing tools for approximately five or six hours a day. Such issues have a big business impact because the management makes decisions about the tools that are going to be used within the company. SharePoint could somehow be improved or changed to match the features of Confluence from Atlassian. There is an opportunity to do some improvements there.""They should have a consolidated app, rather than have different applications with a different app."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Their pricing model should be modified to include per user options instead of just servers/cores, etc."
  • "It is a bit expensive."
  • "It's an open-source structure. Other costs are for professional services to integrate Liferay to other existing systems."
  • "Licensing costs can be very expensive."
  • "The product is neither cheap nor expensive. What Liferay Digital Experience Platform offers at its current price can be considered something that is worth the money."

  • "Depending on which plan you purchase, there are a plethora of applications available to you."
  • "Compared to buying a license, it is much cheaper and a good buy."
  • "We do monthly billing, however, I'm not sure what the exact costs are. We may pay around $1,000/month. We started using the Microsoft Teams and we've started doing the conference call feature, so that's another $4 an account and we have a few accounts using that right now."
  • "USD $1,250 annually for the standard package."
  • "Pricing can vary a lot due to fluctuations in exchange rates and that is not favorable for planning."
  • "Now you can select different licenses, for example, if somebody doesn't need all of the features, it would cost $8 USD per month and if they didn't need the email application then it would cost $6 USD per month."
  • "It works out to be $12.50 per user per month."
  • "Microsoft 365 Business will be good to have if you have a large organization where you have more than 3000 employees. Other cheaper solutions, like Gmail, are easily available in the market."
