Has an easy initial setup process, but its technical support services need improvement
The product's technical support could be better. The integration project requires a lot of technical details, so we need to find it quickly and easily. There was a large community of knowledge in the past. We kept it together and got the results. The community that works around the particular technical issue is shrinking. It used to be a specialized community that would help with the process. These particular areas need improvement. Broadcom is still using a hybrid cloud model, with some workloads on-premises and some in the cloud. They must start with the cloud adoption and move as many workloads to the cloud as possible. The on-premises environment is becoming stable. They need to rebuild that cost and the software. The product's pre-sales, technical support, and installation could also improve.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"TAM component integration and their SSO capabilities and transparency are the most valuable features I have found."
"It is a very stable and good product."
"It is a good solution for anyone to take to their enterprise and get a buy in."
"OAuth 2 is now the de facto standard for API protection and scoped authorized delegation. IBM TAM now supports OAuth 2 and can act as fully compliant OAuth 2 authorization server."
"It is a single product that caters for all the business needs throughout the organization."
"Centralized policy management and reverse proxy-based architecture make it very flexible in terms of deployment, adoption, and implementation."
"Since its birth it is an unbelievable stable product."
"I like the primary function of this product allowing the administration of user/network accounts with a fair amount of ease."
"I would say the most valuable feature is provisioning where we are able to provide user access to all the resources they need in a uniform way that we can audit."
"Word mining and risk campaigns are the most valuable features of this solution."
"The solution is easy to scale."
"Deployment was easy, I can say it's the best on the market with small amount of manpower."
"Allows individual users to work in a controlled and secure environment, whereby user authentication, access control, password administration, and smooth workflow are ensured."
"Connector Xpress and Policy Xpress and the new interface."
"All processes around user accounts are simplified, and assets and business modeling are improved."
"The ability to customise the screen, and create a technical solution suited to the business requirements including delegation, password management and role based access."

Cons

"This product is also available in the appliance offering which has not yet matured and has many issues."
"The self-service portal needs improvement."
"Redundant Policy servers had to be manually configured using LB."
"We have had stability issues lately with the hardware and SAN that the product runs on."
"Sometimes, there are long running support tickets (for 6-8 months) and that is unacceptable from the customer's point of view."
"There is Java process that hangs in WebSphere almost every month."
"Initial setup was complicated because TAM was implemented as a part of the IDM solution."
"The license model is pretty complex."
"Currently, it is difficult to create these connectors in this solution."
"Symantec is only on-premises, not on the cloud."
"Although the capabilities are there, the user interface needs to be redesigned and the opportunities for integration should be improved."
"As far as improvements, the first thing I think CA needs to do is redesign the user interface; the functionality is good but the interface itself is not that user-friendly."
"The interfaces need to be revamped. They are too antiquated."
"Technical support from CA is not very good."
"The product has a lot of need for improvement. Our issues are being raised back to the vendor as enhancements."
"Identity manager is very complex and you must have the knowledge and skills required to use it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The IBM prices are, as ever, extortionate, even with a business partnership, and high levels of discounts."
"The connector is free, and bundled with the product."
"Symantec keeps increasing the price. I rate its pricing a seven on a scale of ten."
"The price is based on the number of users."
"The product has a good price in competition with another product with the same solution."
"Compared to other options, CA products are not that expensive."
"Pricing and licensing models are adequate and reasonable."

"The price is flexible for our existing customers."
